How did the esram suddenly double in bandwidth? Thats some spicy sauce.

the rest just sounds like they bumped each rumoured spec by a bit to make it more powerful

and if the original MS APU was huge, you don't just slap another 8 CUs on it without yields going down the crapper.

so close. This time tomorrow we will be counting down hours.

CPU: 8-Core Custom AMD Architecture (enhanced Jaguar), 1,6GHz
GPU: GCN, 20 Shader Cores providing a total of 1280 threads, 0,8 GHz, at peak performance, the GPU can effectively issue 2 trillion floating-point operations per second
Memory: 12GB DDR3-2133, 384-Bit, Bandwidth: 102,4 GB/s
64 MB eSRAM, 2048-Bit ("on die"), Bandwidth: 204GB/s
Accelerator: 4 Data move engines, Image, video, and audio codecs, Kinect multichannel echo cancellation (MEC) ardware,Cryptography engines, SHAPE-Block
TDP: Max. 185 W

The Architecture Design is the same as the one from the Alpha Specifications (February 2012).
The Main Enhancements are the Memory Controller ( Custom "IP" 384-Bit) and the GPU-Part of the die ( 12 SCs to 20 SCs; 32 MB eSRAM to 64 MB eSRAM, double Bandwidth)
This results in both an increase in power consumption ( from 125 W to 185 W) and an increase of the size of the APU (300 mm2 to 450 mm2)
Yield Rates of the chip have been moderate at best (Improvements since September 2012)

That seems way more believable than the others, Good news if it turn out to be true.

Apart from the 12GB DDR3 at 2133 MT/s, those specs seem fairly reasonable. There is that certain comment by a Rare employee (was that it?) about Sony mimicking Microsoft regarding GDDR5, so I don't know what to believe. For them to use DDR3, even at maximum speed, seems strange if that comment is true.

Shinobi informs me he is pretty much done with the OT for the announcement, has the twitch backup chat channels in case neogaf goes down, has the live links that MQ just posted.

Looks like we are GO!

Countdown commencing FIRE ONE!

I'm expecting some serious meltdowns come Tuesday or at E3. The specs between the PS4/Now! are looking really similar, and Sony has yet to show their console.

The 12 GB of RAM is the one thing that makes it seem unlikely to me. It would only be a very mild performance increase and would have cost a lot to implement. I can see the increased bandwidth numbers happening though. A move up to 20CUs is huge but not out of the realm of possibility but I am still expecting less than 20 (but more than 12).

Awesome news.

Less than 48 hours left and suddenly time feels like it's slowing down...

When is the OP up approximately?

esram man, esram. Too big for real

I don't know much about eSRAM and it seems like a good way of improving the bandwidth issues so I wasn't sure. I was just sticking to what I know. I still think the console is more powerful than the leaks said, but I'm curious how much. Don't think they'll pass PS4 which makes me hope we get some solid numbers from some source after the reveal.

I just want whatever system has the best gaming/online experience, so all this spec war stuff is amusing. However I'd love for MS to drop nukes on Tuesday just to watch GAF collapse in on itself. The amount of butthurt I'd get to feast upon is the sole reason I want MS to knock this out of the park.

Except it's not very realistic. 64 MB of ESRAM and a 20 CU GPU would be huge on the motherboard, not to mention the memory changes.

Memory changes are not much of an issue

20CU brings thermal and power issues

64 MB ESRAM is absolutely stupid unless they are doing 1T-SRAM because 6T-SRAM would be such a crazy dumb transistor budget. There's be well over 10 billion transistors

I mean eSRAM, the real eSRAM is too big, 32MB eSRAM is really big, I can't imagine how big is 64MB. Too many transistors I guess.

How would esram benefit the console? Just asking cause I'm naive.

You need lots of memory bandwidth for graphics processing. Esram allows for the shared system memory to be DDR3. The GPU gets all of the bandwidth to esram and most to DDR3, ~150GB/s in the old leaked spec. Near 300GB/s in the BS fantasy specs. That'd be more than a 7970.

Id say 8 GB and 32 ESRAM are the same but the GPU specs being boosted are the most realistic.

12 is possible but that controller would have to be boosted and I'm not sure that would happen

I don't think there will be huge meltdowns but I am expecting a solid introduction to the hardware and philosophy and a taste of games as an E3 preview. It'll probably stomp out a lot of the negativity as long as we get solid answers to some of the more worrying rumors.

ESRAM is there for latency

People tend to forget there's a lot of waste for GPUs on PC because memory isn't unified, a lot of stuff needs to cross the PCIe bus- the upper bandwidth needs are for multi screen rendering mainly or heavy AA.

We should be getting a good taste of what to expect from the hardware on Tuesday. I reckon Microsoft's conference will be very lean and straight to the point.
