PGR5 speculation thread Lucid dreams with Rare side effects?

I think the former head of Rare Mark Betteridge said something similar in an interview once in that they were looking to move to a more film industry like setup for staffing to help reduce the boom bust hiring cycle - http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/22/rare-boss-devs-take-naive-approach-when-estimating-game-budge/

If Rare did end up implementing that kind of system (have a core team and then add people on contracts or by outsource when they are required) Lucid might be doing something similar with Rare...
This is REALLY interesting. It also makes a lot of sense, especially in relation to Bizarre's old video/design/editing guy working for Rare.

Lucid want said guy from Bizarre for work. Ask Microsoft to have said guy on-board. Rare (being a Microsoft company) hire said guy, but he works in the offices of Lucid.

Hell, there's no reason why Rare couldn't be almost some kind of proxy for hiring a shitload of people to work in Lucid's offices. For all we know, Rare might not have any of those ex-Codies etc. people in their offices at all... they may be in Lucid's.

Could also mean that Rare isn't the papa bear in this scenario, and Lucid really are the lead team, with only a small number of people (if any) actually based at Rare.

Plus, I don't think MS "own" any other companies in the UK that they could use for this type of thing. They don't own Playground, I know that much.

Edit: BTW don't put any stock in their FAQ being taken down... they may just want to remove it in advance of whatever's happening tomorrow-ish. Besides, they still have this up on their "About Us" page:

Lucid-

It is an honor and pleasure that Lucid Games can finally show the world the fruit of our endeavors. Lucid Games is happy to present to you........... We thank our fans and in particular, a shout-out to Shaneus and the TheOddOne of NeoGAF.

We hope you enjoy our game."

I see now why everyone thinks IOS is going to kill off console gaming, incredible.

Surely the trailer, if any, is going to be epic!

"From the ashes it rises. Its back, bigger, better and faster than ever before. This time, life truly begins at 200 mph.

Project Gotham Racing 5

Buckle up for the ride of your life"

Nah, bugger that.

Show awesome clips of cars, quick edits and a couple of new cities...

"It's not about how fast you drive..."

"...but how you drive fast"
(fade out)
(fade into massive, fuckoff Kudos symbol)

Synced to any one of the following songs:
Chemical Brothers - Out of Control (possibly the Sasha remix)
The Prodigy - Omen
The Crystal Method - Name of the Game
The Crystal Method - Starting Over
and a fresh one that I just came across, which I think would be a good fit too:
Pet Shop Boys - Axis (Boys Noize remix)

PGR has never, EVER been about dubstep or that ilk. Leave that shit to the NFS series or Horizon or something. It's about clean, crisp electronica* (at least, in the videos):
MSR
PGR2
PGR4

*Stuff that doesn't date, basically. Horizon is set around a very specific time with a very specific theme... and it'll date easily because of that. MSR/PGR is just about racing awesome cars around awesome locations, and if you start to add very period-specific music like dubstep, you're aging it.

Don't want to go massively against the grain but I hope PGR5 has less super cars and more cars like PGR2 had. Also, more city tracks.

I also want to add, that if Lucid are indeed making PGR in collaboration with Turn 10, I don't want to see any kind of customization, upgrades and tuning in the game.

Nup. Basic painting customisation as per 4, that's it.

Hope so.

I'm afraid though, that Turn 10 will somehow throw it in.

It comes down to what I said before. By Turn 10 handling these spinoffs, I feel that all the games will start to look, sound and feel like FM. It isn't a necessarily bad thing, but I just want the other games to have an identity all of their own.

All these latest 'news' related to a Forza, (Forza Vista, McLaren tease, Xbox twitter "be patient"..etc) do suggest FM5 being at the reveal and not PGR5.

The question is..

Was BADNED trolling us all that time with hints of PGR5?

Maybe Turn 10 have been trolling BADNET all this time?

Now Sony is trolling MS. Man, trolls are invading the planet!

It's been one heck of a ride on MS's roller coaster. The amount of confusion, rumors, 'leaks', misinformation, disinformation, speculation is truly unprecedented!

It is possible that while tomorrow's announcement is Forza but its PGR in all but its name. Its possible that MS wants to consolidate all its racing brand under one name.

Forza Vista is renaming autovista.
McLaren tease can go either way and doesn't point towards Forza specifically though you'd associate it with Forza based on box art history (a stretch).
Be patient actually points towards Forza coming later (but that tweet is essentially useless as a source for anything).
Having one doesn't mean the other wont be there, especially considering they won't release at the same time.

The only thing that really points towards Forza being there tomorrow is the original rumour of Forza, Ryse, etc. spearheading launch. Which was from a shaky source that Thurott didn't trust releasing information for.

I stand by my idea that they'll show Forza Kinect and visual tech demo tomorrow, "we'll share more news at E3," and PGR will be the focus of tomorrow. Forza will get the glitz and glam at E3 with maybe a short CG trailer for launch in 2014, and PGR5 will release this fall. MS will flex all the IPs it has on tap tomorrow and dive into specifics or more substantial displays at E3.

After hearing multiple GAF insiders corroborate PGR5s existence and saying its looking pretty, I think it's more than likely its coming first. Maybe not from Lucid at all, but from Rare and T10. Or maybe Playground, but it's more probably coming than a short term Forza.

I got mentioned by Lucid. Who wants to touch me?

Won't be Forza 5. Why else would Lucid's own @misterecoli have made an appearance in the PGR speculation thread, well before this thread was created? You don't stumble across that stuff by accident.

NEVER FORGET
Unfortunately can't tell you what we're working on just yet, it's fun to read all the rumours and sleuthing tho...
Also, you'd have to discount the Road Opens 2013 picture AND the fact that no Forza Motorsport game has had proper real-life street circuits (Amalfi doesn't count, it's merely "inspired by" real-life) as per that picture.

PS. The McLaren tease doesn't actually suggest that they're the cover car. If they're a few months from launch, it's probably the last thing they'll decide on. I'd wager they're just going to have an actual McLaren car there, just like how for one of the FM events they had a car that wasn't in the game (don't ask me what it was though).

PPS. And besides, what sort of car did PGR4 have on the front of it? I don't think it was ever properly known that it was something specific, especially when the wheel hub just has a Kudos symbol on it :)

Possible, but I think they found that adding "Forza" to Horizon didn't necessarily make it sell better. Honestly, I think MS would be better off in keeping the distinction quite clear between something like a PGR game and an FM game. Better off having that than blurring the lines and confusing people.

Kinect 2.0-driven PGR garages. Fuuuuuu...

Is this just rumours and speculation, or has there been something "officially unofficial" whispered about it existing?

Just because the bass is stretched, doesn't make it dubstep. Track would fit well, IMHO.

Just because McLaren has said 'watch #XboxReveal', doesn't automatically mean they're on the cover. PGR has McLarens in it too, so it's a licensed product. Doesn't make PGR 5 or Forza 5 any more or less likely.

I wish somebody from Lucid would put us out of our misery by now. I've been waiting for them to just come out and say 'we ain't doing a new PGR' over the last week or two but they haven't said anything.

I've tweeted a few of the PGR hype GIFs to them this week but nobody replies. :(

I wish they'd just say 'no' once and for all.

Sounds a lot like dubstep! Depending on technicalities, you might be taking my call for "dubstep" literally though... in which case, let's call it "brostep" ;)

Isn't that what I said? Or did you mean to quote another post?

If they were to answer "no", they would've done it already :)

Damn I'm going to be so sad comes tomorrow evening, I know it.

:(
Nah, don't be. It's like tantric sex... even if there's no explosion at the end, at least the journey was fun!

Weirdest analogy ever.
