It's all random. Can't even reset for it really because you won't know your island fruit for at least a couple days. But of course, you're not limited to your native fruit forever. That's what trading online is for!
Although there's the whole perfect fruit feature... Your town can only grow perfect versions of your native fruit IIRC.

Fishing/bug catching/fossils and cross breeding flowers are my main obsessions in WW. I'd probably do the same in NL.

Surely it would have been easier to add yourself at the bottom... It would be good if people could stick to that as well. It's easier to tell who you've added and who you haven't that way.

Are you able to take the island fruit and plant them in your village? Or do they only grow on the island?

Just on the beach I think, similar to how coconuts worked in some of the previous games.

I apologise in advance if this question seems discourteous to ask here, but what exactly is the appeal of this game? I've seen YouTube clips of it and - pardon me - but it seems to be aimed at very young children

LOL, in seriousness though you can say that to any nintendo game ever. Really.
Anyway, if you want to look at it in another game, try Harvest Moon. Its much more similar to that than the Sims.
So you need to go to the island to even get the newer fruits and only after a couple of days?

There are also persimmons. I can't seem to keep any. I wish I had better town management and could pull of something nice looking like the above screen. : (
One thing that bothers me about this version is the item box management. I've run out of room already and because everything links to the same item box I'm probably gonna have to start storing furniture in the post office again UGH. Someone please tell me there's another way ...

I take it Japan is blocked off from the US? I have a Japanese copy.
I have a couple of questions about New Leaf:
1. How big is the download? I'm thinking about whether or not I should download it, but I only have the 4GB card that came with my 3DSXL and it's slowly filling up.
2. I'm assuming the game still allows multiple accounts on the same cart (or download). How is that handled? Is the first person who makes a character the mayor, or does every character created share the mayoral duties? Do they all have seperate houses this time?

I'm surprised it took someone this long to do this, I hope there's a backup.
Yeah probably a good idea. Put password or link to spreadsheet in an email tag, so only users can quite the message and access it.
