Done with Anime?

Easy solution is to not saturate yourself in any one type of media you'll be burned out fast especially if your hanging out with people who talk like that in your OP. That sounds annoying to me as well but wouldn't stop me from enjoying a medium altogether. Just look at the vast amount of annoying hipsters in the music and movie genres. Just be yourself enjoy what you feel like.

Last anime I watched was BECK.

You know, even with the broken English and some stuff about it, it wasn't silly (not intentional silly or whatever) nor stupid, I truly loved it.

Nowadays...man, I can't like anime. Wasn't that big on it back in the day but thought I'd give Bleach a chance to see what's the fuss about it. Just nope. Couldn't endure more than five minutes of it.

Well Bleach is bad so you shouldn't have wasted those 5 minutes on it.

Have you checked out Nana or Kids on the Slope? If you liked Beck these two anime seem more suited than Bleach.

I can't get into any of the stuff like Naruto, Bleach etc. Not dogging it just not my thing but anime is like movies so many choices something is bound to wet your whistle.

more people should "watch" Onepunch-man imo

Googled both shows on google images and liked what I saw right from the start, will look them up, thanks for the recommendation. (:

You're right, thing is, most of the popular or recommended anime I keep seeing it's mostly shonen/moe and whatnot, my ship sailed long ago from those genres, but the above recommendation is something I would dig. (:

Yeah you should definitely judge an entire medium based on Bleach.

It is pretty easy to avoid shounen action shows. Avoiding "moe" is harder since everyone seems to have a different definition of it but it mostly seems to boil down to people disliking a specific art style.

Fate/Zero, Aku no Hana, Tsuritama. Go. Watch them.

Yup, this is where I was about four years ago. But then I did watch a couple truly excellent anime, and so I still really enjoy some of what the medium produces, but anime has lost any "intrinsic value" it once had for me

Anime isn't comparable to other mediums like movies or books, because 99% of anime is aimed at children or, at best, teens. A far higher percentage of movies, books and TV shows are aimed at adults. There's noting in anime that is in the same league, or even the same universe, as something like The Wire or The Sopranos. Anime and comic books are not a legit medium.

... Seriously? People still have this ignorant point of view?

I considered mentioning that but it would have been a little off-point in my already too-long post. It's definitely not mainstream here, and 'our mainstream' (the otaku stuff) isn't mainstream in Japan.

That's bullshit. One Piece is the most popular manga series in Japan IIRC.

I unplugged a while ago, last thing I really watched was Bleach, but after the Aizen arc they should have just canned it.
Still nothing will ever come close to the greatness of Cowboy Bebop and GitS SAC and to a lesser extent Samurai Champloo.
I watch Dragon Ball/Z from time to time for nostalgia reasons and of course am a rabbid Ghibli follower.

Yup, dropped everything the beginning of last year. I'm very picky with anime so after every season the series that they would offer eventually didn't appeal to me. Not saying that there isn't any good anime out there now, but the genre as a whole just died for me. I'll only watch Gintama from time to time or if a series I really liked got a reboot/new season/etc.

This is the kind of thread you get when box the main anime thread over in community!

In all seriousness, you should always be selective about the type of material you consume. Anime works, on a whole, aren't substantially worse then they were a few years ago, you just happen to be watching shows that aren't very good.

There are plenty of excellent titles to watch, you just have to ask around and most people in these kinds of threads are happy to hand out advice about what you should check out.

I haven't watched anime or read comics regularly in almost 20 years, but your opinion is bad. Just because something is predominantly aimed at children or teens doesn't, in any way/shape/form mean that it isn't a legitimate medium. Sure there's some AWFUL shit, but there's awful shit in every medium. I'd say that there are more than enough examples (of which I won't bother listing here) to prove you wrong 100x over.

There's too much of it to watch, I feel like when I'm watching one Anime I'm missing out on another one. The time invested in them is too much for me and I fell out of Anime entirely around 2011.

There's no need to attempt to follow everything that's coming out, especially because most of it isn't going to be particularly good. That would be akin to watching every single TV show in a given season. It's a fools game.

I recently stopped watching about 90% of the anime I used to, about a year ago now, but keep up with my favs or the good ones that roll through. Shingeki no Kyojin brought me back into the fold for a bit.

I stopped watching anime for a while cause I had this mindset too, but then I started watching stuff like Gintama, JoJo, and Psycho Pass and somehow found myself getting back into it. Then I tried watching
Vividred and Senran Kagura
and while the fanservice and cuteness were... a thing, I found myself more bored by the lack of depth in the shows than by some weird aversion to cuteness.

The EXTREME over-reliance on digital coloring (I know, all series do this now but in anime it's especially bad), the really bad animation (3 frames for talking, open mouth/closemouth/half openclosemouth, jerky motions that just scream corner cutting). The constant tropes (tsundere, harem, moe). The really bad storytelling (telling vs showing). The -kun -chan -all other things that are tagged on to the end of every name and every sentence (yeah, I know, a language thing but it's gotten to the point that I just can't stand it anymore).

I was done with it like 8 years ago. But then, I had a VERY early exposure to anime thanks to my uncle. I was a kid in the 80s, and the stuff I saw back then blew my goddamn mind (VHD, Akira, etc).

lol.

Wow. This would be like a Japanese person complaining about English tv shows always using words like "the, of, a, an"

Jesus christ...

The problem isn't anime or the Japanese language at that point.

Just take a break for a while.

Seriously, when I get fed up with Anime and Manga I go back to reading 2000ad, when I'm fed up with 2000ad I go back to reading US comics, when I get fed up with that I go back to Manga. The cycle stops me overdosing on any one thing.

If anime is aimed at children, how do you explain hentai?

It's for children and manchildren

Seriously, 99% of anime is embarrassing, save for a few exceptions. People actually like it that way. You can indeed generalize a medium when the generalizations are in fact true for the large majority of it.

I'm sure there's still great anime out there, but it's buried. Last year I had downloaded the Crunchyroll app for Roku & iPad expecting to find all these great new series to enjoy. I ended up watching Kids on the Slope because of the director's past works and it was ok, but I couldn't get further than 1 episode on any other new series I tried. Everything seems really cookie cutter. At least there's always Studio Ghibli.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out
and don't come shitting up threads with that stale '80s anime wus da best, so machur n deep nowadays its all moe moe kyun uguu shit liek dis post if u agree evertim'

i'm done in the sense that i'll watch damn near any anime just because its there.

i only watch like 3 shows max per season because most of it IS trash. i'll let somebody else sift through the bullshit and tell me what other good stuff is in a season.

Someone post the other One-punch man gifs because I can't find them.
I was going to try to engage you in discussion until I read this post, which makes it clear that you're actually not interested in anything other than whoring for attention and flinging shit at others. It matters naught that you're abandoning anime if you're not willing to listen to corrective advice & suggestions old & new, or really do much of anything except for talk about just how adult you are for making a blanket decision to drop an entire medium based on your own laziness, myopia, and willful ignorance of it.

As for the anime thread in Community, I've had lengthy and detailed discussions with the fine people in there on topics as comparatively mature as the philosophical implications of the religious symbolism in Angel's Egg, the controversial sexual politics of The Wings of Honneamise, and exactly how much I hate Mind Game (a lot), so I know you're basically full of total shit regarding not being able to hold a decent conversation in between the regulars fawning over moe in there. Not to mention that the good folk of animeGAF will essentially drop everything to recommend you excellent works of past and present based on your own taste if you actually bother to ask - but, you know, just shit on them for the crime of having anime avatars, that's totally more productive.
Not to mention that a good amount of the so-called,"Moe this, kawaii, that, waifu this, smut shit that," talk is pretty much said in a joking and/or derisive manner (at least in the manga thread; unless its Cajun). Even if there are people who are talking about it seriously; who gives a flying fuck? Honestly. It's not like they're harming you nor is it like they're the only ones in the thread. The threads are hardly dominated by it. It's mostly reviews of the most recent episodes or chapters (and how shit they are).

You're my hero, by the way, Icarus.

Just started getting into watching some full series.

Lain and Steins;Gate have been amazing so far. Looking forward to finding more gems.

I'd recommend avoiding Mirai Nikki.
Solanin
Goodnight Punpun
Takemitsu Zamurai
Music of Marie
I am Hero
A Bride's Story
Saturn Apartments
Ooku: Inner Chambers
Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer
Children of the Sea
Kinderbook
A Drifting Life

To name some.
Damn, this is a real good list.

You forgot Boys on the Run though!
