I think you can just copy the data from one card to another. And play the games on the 3DS they were downloaded on. You will probably need an SD card reader to transfer.
I know the friends are stored on the system.

I recommend using SD Formatter with any new (or repurposed) SD card to make sure it's formatted most efficiently. Note that using this tool erases the card.

I'm sure you can just do it on PC too. Drag and drop the 3DS folder from one SD card to another

Yeah all I did was put the provided 4gb SD card in my laptop and copy the 3DS folder from the root of the card to my laptop and then put the 8gb in my laptop and copied that folder to my 8gb. Done. Easy. lol.
EDIT: Apparently beaten more than once. lol

Which makes me wonder how this series managed to elude me all this time.
I hope New Leaf is a good entry point
It's not really like the Sims at all (at least the gameplay isn't the same, but the genre it falls under is kinda similar). It's more like Harvest Moon than anything else, but it still does its own things. You make friends with the animals, help them with things, personalize/customize your house, town (of course for both of these things you need to make money in-game), fill up the museum with fossils you can collect, bugs, fish, etc. It has LOTS of things you can do and you can choose what you want to do. There's no pressure to do everything the game offers, you can set your own goals with what you want your town to be like and what you want to accomplish.
It's a game about making your own fun with the "tools" they give you.
Well, I guess if you've ever played Rune Factory you might like this game.
This game reminds me of minecraft in the sense that it looks like there's nothing to do, but by the time you're finished playing, several hours have already passed.
It doesn't really describe what the game is, but like minecraft, there's no real way to explain it(at least for me there isn't) until you play it.
