DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

Still a bunch of Hackers. I haven't played in a while but I watch DayZ youtubers pretty often and they always get hacked or the whole server starts dancing etc.

Best thing lately is DayZ origins, which scans your computer before you play and if you have ever EVER used a hack it perma-bans you no matter when you used the hack. So it's like DayZ when it launched and it's a lot more fun it would seem. Also the zombies have terrifying new screams in it

Just want to point out this is actually breaking point NOT origins. It scans your C:// for cheat engine or similar program's.

And it also used to scan and store your cd key. Oh and it uses other people's scripts and mods without permission.

And also the main dev acts like a 13 year old baby.

I guess I am too late to the party as I am not really enjoying this. It feels very "gamey" to me, which I thought it would not be the case going by the premise and mechanics. I love the exploring though.

Is the standalone pretty much this, or will there be added things to look froward to?

What do you mean by "gamey"?

Personally I find most of the mechanics of DayZ slow and tedious. Origins is how I would like to see DayZ evolve but since its still limited by the engine its just to hard for me to really get into.

Iv gotten back into playing wasteland. Its how I would imagine the world being after the zombies cleared up. Everyones got guns. Everyone wants a slice of the pie. And they are willing to cram a magazine of 5.56 down your throat to get it.

Final thoughts. Im having my doubts about SA. We have only seen 2 videos of SA in action. Both being very pre-alpha. We(I) need to see something that puts that hope that its moving along and things are being done

Just came back after the longest hiatus, installed dayzcommander and whoa, there's lots of dayz flavors now! Which one are the best? Which ones are you guys using the most? Is the gaf mumble server still alive? Are you guys using it? I'm updating dayz so hopefully I'll see you soon!

If anyone would like to help me and a few friends in a Hatfields vs McCoys situation with another group in Cherno, we'll share the loot AND THE GLORY!

Wish I saw this, would of came and helped out.

Well, we actually have a raid planned for tomorrow night, perhaps. We've mostly been doing recon...they have a much bigger force than us, so we won't really be able to do "army vs army" stuff, more like "rebel" raids, disruption, etc.

If anyone is interested, let me know. We'll get you geared up--we have few resources compared to them, but it's just enough.

I just had a great moment, haha. Some guy shot me with the Enfield from about a meter away. He thought I was dead, but I was actually only knocked unconscious. While he was fighting a couple of zombies I got up and shot him as fast as I could with my M1911 which only had one clip. Managed to kill him and got his weapon, a bunch of ammo and neat new backpack. :)

Nice! People really need to pay attention to the kill "feed".

Do we have a release date for the stand alone yet?

Rocket runs on valve time, originally it was last December, then they change plans and ambitions, the it was March, now its rumored to be June, anyway Rocket should be back in Prague within the next few days (dude took a helicopter from Mt. Everest instead of hiking back with the rest of the team), so hopefully well get some info soon, if not I'm sure will get an update by E3, where rocket will be going.

I have a feeling we will get a status report next week, letting us know where they are at with the project.

Announcement of Beta at E3, if not earlier.

I hope that the stand alone game will fix the bizzare-ass framerate issues. On certain servers, if the player count gets too high, my fps becomes weirdly low (30-40 in cities), and sometimes, fraps will report 30 fps but it will feel more like 15! While on other days its smooth as hell and 60fps.

It's VERY annoying to see that the framerate is somewhat linked to the server.

Gamasutra interview with Dean, I can't tell whether this was before Everest or done today.

From twitter, it seems like it was taken today, but that seems a little ridiculous. And I feel like they would be talking about Everest a little more.

Either way, some news about Alpha. Seems like stuff we already knew though

How do you get people into the alpha? Is this a Minecraft scenario?

DH: So what we're doing at the moment is, we gave free keys as a gift to the forum moderators, the Reddit moderators, people who helped out with DayZ development, and stuff like that. I guess there's about 30-100 people involved with that.

From here, once we've finished our server/client architecture -- because we're moving it an MMO model -- we're reviewing the situation of that in June, and then we do an alpha, just like Minecraft. People pay X amount of dollars and they get early, cheap access to it, and then once it's beta, price goes up, maybe, say, $10, and once it goes retail, the price goes up $10.

So the keys you've already distributed, when do they join the alpha?

DH: They're already in. They're already playing it. It's good... We're only running one server. We are doing content updates all the time. The Steam model is really working well for us. Valve approached us and they said, "What do you guys want, to make things easier?" and we said, "Well, we want delta patching." Luckily they were just about to bring that out. That's where, instead of downloading the whole file when it updates, it just downloads the part [that has changed.]

And it's already built into our build process. So the artists, they download the game via Steam, and our internal development process uses Steam to patch their stuff. So when people join the alpha, we have a little dropdown box, which is two builds -- this is once we go paying -- you can choose the stable, or the experimental. The experimental one is literally what is on the developer's desktop. And so people will be able to choose which one they want to play on. If they want to see what the developers were working on today, they can choose the experimental build.

We don't necessarily know how it's going to go. A lot of this is an experiment. But I think it's a cool experiment, and we're lucky that we can do that, because of the success of DayZ and the sales of Arma 2, it's kind of given us carte blanche to experiment. And we're going to make a lot of mistakes, and we do, but I think that's good. It's good for the title and it's good for us to do.

Rocket wrote some words about the climb.

In the past few days since coming back from Everest Base Camp I've been constantly asked what it was like to walk onto the summit so I'll try to explain it.

In my case, we had been climbing for around five hours in the dark from the South Col, passing most of the climbers that day. This included a climber who had died/was dying and clipped into the rope, requiring every climber passing him to unclip and climb around him. His position and posture symbolized absolute desperation and sadness. He was utterly beyond rescue. My digestive system had begun to shut down after just one night on the col, but I was very healthy relative to others and we ascended in an extremely good time.

After climbing the Hillary step, a short section of steep rock, you start walking towards the summit. At that time (about 4am), the sky was just starting to light up. I stopped to adjust my oxygen mask and turned to the right, noticing the suns rays hitting the atmosphere in such a way you could easily see the curvature of the Earth. Seeing that was probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen. The sight was so breathtaking it was like being slapped in the face. I immediately started crying and so my nose began to run - clogging up my mask.

I tried to yell "it's beautiful" and started waving my arms at my Sherpa - pointing to the rounded sea of colours stretching across the black sky to our right. I think at that point it finally occurred to me I was about ten meters away from the highest point on Earth. It was the culmination of two months actively climbing on the mountain, a year of physical training, nearly a hundred thousand dollars, and over a decade of dreaming. It was below thirty degrees, I couldn't feel the toes on my right foot, and I was very thirsty and tired. But here I was - mere meters away from the summit.

There is no way to describe the view, no photo that can do it justice. You are so unbelievably high above everything. You're surrounded by beauty. Everyone on the summit is trying to wipe tears from their eyes and clear out their masks.

I took out my camera and tried to take pictures, the extreme cold of predawn meant after a couple of photos the battery died. I barely cared at all, the camera seemed so utterly pointless and useless to try and capture the view, the feeling. I was so completely overcome with emotion at the summit that I couldn't really feel anything.

We got to the summit just as a kaleidoscope of colors danced across the atmosphere in a circular glow, five of us from my expedition sat on the summit alone to watch dawn break across the world on the 21st of May.

I've thought a lot how to summarize the feeling, and the best I can do is say that if there is a god, then it's like looking upon his face.

The dead guy part is unsettling to say the least, apparently 7 have died on the mountain in May alone.

Met a bunch of friendly (!) players in Cherno yesterday. We were running around the city with around 4 players with a sniper giving us cover. We looted a bunch of buildings and rid the city of any potential threats. Was a lot of fun moving around like a squad.

There was an invisible guy running around playing music through his headset while taking stuff out of my backpack and putting it on the floor. It was scary as hell.

Another day in DayZ my friend.

My friend and I were playing locally and a guy stole our motorboat while we were searching coastal industrial places for gas to refuel. The thief drove about 100 yards before the engine died and we picked his stranded ass off from atop a lighthouse. Too bad the boat was still too far out to swim to.

so did he pay for this trip up the mountain with his bonus monies from Boheima from the DayZ mod you think? Anyone have a clue what the cost is to climb Everest? 35k or upwards of 100k?

I'm pretty sure hes actually given a rough number of how much its cost him to do it. He planned it about 5 or more years ago, so this was pre-DayZ.

Rocket said in total the cost was nearly 100K to climb the mountain. He also said that he had been training for the climb for nearly a year, so he probably had the trip planned before DayZ got popular.
