Animal Crossing: New Leaf comes out in a month.

Anyone know if the grass deterioration is in this game? I know most of the fanbase hates it, but it made some pretty snazzy, natural looking paths for me in City Folk.

It is, but it is more manageable and you can grow it back using trees and flowers.
IMO, the dirt paths in New Leaf are really gorgeous, I plan on making them eventually.
 
By the way guys, you can use the L/R buttons to run without picking anything up.

But I wouldn't run much in this version anyway. The walk speed is pretty damn fast this time around.

You still get 15 colours, but this time you pick which 15 you want.

Considering I often limit myself to 15 colors when doing pixel art, that's not bad at all!

Yeah, I found that people would always accidentally pick up the paths when they visited. So I plan to go with some simple textures that don't take up all the pattern slots. I like this one.

Yeah, the grass deterioration in New Leaf looks far better. Firstly, it's slowly and grows back faster. And secondly, it's not a straight cut-off between grass and dirt. It was too harsh before. Now it's more natural, looks just.. worn.

I'm going to do this. I've never been good a pixel art, but this gives me incentive! And after I get sick of pattern paths, I'm going to make nice dirt pathways lined with hedges and/or bamboo.

I love planting fruit trees in this game. I love being able to have beautiful fruit orchards to run through. I love shaking trees and collecting fruit. For whatever reason I enjoyed it so much in WW. Can't wait to have that again.

My one worry is that I'll continue to keep weird hours and want to play in the middle of the night and shops are all closed. I know you can have them open later or open earlier if you want but like right now I'm awake and they wouldn't be open.

Ha, I...think so. I can't really remember much about it other than staying up all night for the first time for this one character. So I must have really liked the characters at least!

I'm really looking forward to this, I'll get to play an Animal Crossing game properly. However that is.

i haven't been that good either but i've done and had fun while doing it so this should be some nice practice.

i always liked making weird path patterns in minecraft and this can be somewhat similar.

Some of the shops stay open pretty late with the Night Owl ordinance. (One stays open til 5AM.) And some of the villagers stay up until 6AM.

Plus, the island is open 24 hours a day, and is most profitable at night.

Awwwsummm maybe I'll just do this then.

Anyone know the hours for the stores in Night Owl mode? I don't think the animals can deal with my insomnia even if I force through legislation.

5AM? Which store are you talking about? I know the second Nook store is that but other than that I don't recall any shops staying open that late. And the store will upgrade eventually so it's not very reliable.

If anyone is curious, I've actually written a guide for the Nook stores. Beware of spoilers.

EDIT: Ah, I see Gunloc clarified below me.

The 5AM one isn't a permanent store, it's one of the Nook upgrades, but most of the stores stay open until at least 11PM. And R. Parkers/whatever the recycle shop is called in English, stays open until 2AM, and that's where you want to sell your stuff because the shopkeeper pays you way more than the Nook twins do.

And as I said before, the island is always open. So it's pretty easy to make some serious bank in wee hours of the morning.

Yes that is perfect!

I either stay up really late or go to bed so early that I wake up and it's still like 4am. So I'm up at basically the same time.

Totally can't wait for this game.

We're all waiting in anticipation for the new Animal Crossing. I'd hate for you to avoid this place. I certainly don't want you being left out.

I hope they do, and I hope they don't make it feel too rehashy like City Folk (even though I still enjoyed it a bunch).


...I should really try out the GC game sometime since it's the only one I haven't played.
 
Wii U Animal Crossing will basically be New Leaf with a couple of extra minor features.

Search your hearts, you know it to be true.
 
You know since the handheld versions seem to work out better, I was thinking the other day that maybe Nintendo should just skip over the Wii U and get to work on an Animal Crossing for their eventual next handheld. Have it out within a year of launch
instead of making us wait almost 2.5 years

Kinda unrelated but I really can't wait for Miiverse to come out. Having a bunch of people swap notes with is pretty fun and I feel like Miiverse will just be much more fleshed out.
