I always figured it was because the location is a small town the train passes through. A crossing of sorts.

But maybe also because you cross paths with people.

The Japanese name makes more sense!

It's supposed to be a reference to signs where animals cross roads, but I take it as a pun that can also mean a crossing like where roads meet / animals meet. The Japanese title is literally "Animal Forest", so In guess they were going for something a little more descriptive in English.

Time Traveler? If that means screwing with the clock, I don't plan too. Already it seems a lot easier to make money in this game than previous ones.

Anyways,

Added you, oh wise healer of the trees. 1161-1163-7305

How are you going to have time to make E3 .gifs with AC launching the day before the shenanigans start?!

I'm still trying to figure out what "Animal Crossing" means. Crossing what?

Animal Stampede.

I'll be sure to setup pitfalls. Matter of fact, setting up pitfalls and trapping people is the most fun thing ever.

Animal Crossing the roads?

You know, I was wondering if this was one of those things that made more sense in Japanese, but I guess this name originates in English. I better understand it now, however, it's a multipurpose name. Kind of interesting.

Gotta get to the top somehow.

lol

Just asking this on a new page, as It was drowned out on the last one :)

What do people who haven't played think, also?

I agree that it really just comes down to your personal pacing. You don't have to do everything right away all the time... but the option is there. I'm sure I'll discover I'll need to adjust how I play because... life. I'm a different person from when I played the Gamecube one and a different person from when I played Wild World. And in between there I realized I just didn't have time to sit on my couch to play City Folk as much as I loved the series. I really applaud the move to keep it on the 3DS because it has the best shot of fitting into who I am now.

That Animal Crossing Chrome extension is the best thing to happen to this browser.

Oddly I discovered if I have it installed and I leave Chrome open in the background while I play Warcraft, it freezes my game so I had to uninstall it. Made me sad... I really did like it.

You're always coming across animals?

I have an official vow that I would like permanently etched into the technological entity that is the Internet

I WILL complete my museum this time.

IF NOT I SHALL HAVE THREE OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS OVER SO THEY CAN WATCH MY CHARACTER COMMIT SEPPUKU IN REPENTANCE FOR MY SHAME

As someone who hasn't played an AC game yet, I always thought the title shifts the focus off of the human player character and onto the animals as they carry out their activities and lives (crossing a figurative street to the other side...infinitely).

Or this, haha. Which also makes sense with the Japanese title.

Huh, I was just on Warcraft and I had it open just fine. That's odd. D:

You could if that's sort of your thing. :3 My thing is obviously the crazy amount of collectables in this game. :D

It is pretty odd that you're apparently a child leaving home to go live in a village run by animal-people, and aside from other players, you're the only human around. And your mom is apparently okay with this.

What happens to your character when they grow up after years of living with the animals and can't assimilate into the human world anymore?

Has anyone preordered on Gamestop.com before? I want the console bundle but it says using normal shipping it will take an extra 5-15 days even for preorders.

I'm actually surprised I've yet to ask this.

Are there any tips anyone can give me going into this Animal Crossing? I'm hearing quite a lot about it, so I wouldn't want to be overwhelmed with choice when I first start.

16 days...

I wonder if my year old pre-order from Newegg is still there. I can't seem to find any confirmation of the pre-order in the first place... weird. Could've sworn I pre-ordered it during that 10 dollar off sale.

There's no real pressure. It's not like you can have a 'bad start', unless you miss the seasonal catches while you're starting out (you'd have to wait til next year to get them)...but I'm sure you'll have enough time. Everything else just goes at your pace.

Man, Phylilis is horrible. Is she back and being mean and grumpy as always?

So awesome.

If you want a purely digital version of the Prima guide, they have it on their website for just $6.99: http://www.primagames.com/games/animal-crossing-new-leaf/primaguides/621

I may end up going this route so I can have it on the tablet next to me while I play.
Hmm. How do their e-guides work? Log in and view it on the site? Download a PDF?

Don't worry about it. Just enjoy yourself.

I hope so. I love her commentary. :D

Prima is doing digital guides now? Awesome. I mean I love books and all, but it's much more convenient for me to read digital.

Yeah, I like them a lot myself. Got a free guide with Monster Hunter Ultimate and it was super convenient since I could have it right on my ipod.

The Wii game let you send mail directly to your Wii friends' message board thing. I haven't heard about it for NL but it wouldn't be unprecedented.

Well... in the GRAND scheme of things, as in saying that you really can just do whatever. There's no pressure to do anything really.

With THAT said and getting it out of the way, you'd want to go to Tom Nook's shop and be properly introduced to his business. You'll learn of the other shopkeepers later in the week. Each one will sell different variety of stuffl.

Nook will then tell you that you owe him a LOT of bells for buying the house from him. So your first priority is to make some money. Sell the native fruits to a friend's Nook shop that doesn't have them is a very good quick way to get a lot of bells, just don't forget to give that friend ONE of the fruit for free lol. So he can turn it around by planting it into an orchard and sell the foreign fruit himself for $$$.

But before you do any of that, you need to get tools from Nook pronto. Axe, rod, shovel, or bug net. There's more but those are the most important ones to get yourself a lot of stuff to sell. There's possibly more stuff for me to learn too in New Leaf but those are what I remember for WW.

There's a lot of other ways to make money, that's to sell the gifts you get from neighbors, fish, bugs, and fossils you find. But because there's an aquarium, museum for those, you wouldn't want to sell the first finds you get, you'd sell the redundant ones.

When the money rolls in you can upgrade you house. In WW, you could three times. You get more room for your furniture. That'd be the next step, is buying sets of furniture to improve your HRA rating. There's ways to improve this but its pretty detailed and I suggest you read up on the wiki about it. I'm sure the game's still relatively new so the wikis is still new about a lot of info at this point.

You can also sell your own designs at the clothing shop too. You can cross bred flowers to sell them for lots of money.

Each town has a random native fruit growing on the trees. You can collect the fruit and sell it to Nook, but non-native fruit sells for much higher. So you can trade fruit with other towns and plant them to get non-native trees in your town.
