SHOCKING NEWS: Xbox One Voice Commands During Demo Weren't Real Time

Faking it isn't of itself troubling but Ill tell you what is. Microsofts history of faking features not to ensure a smooth presentation but to represent a false product.

- Kinect
- Halo 2

What I want to know is did they fake this presentation because the OS isn't nearly that snappy or the features that smooth.

Everyone is saying "Shocking" and "This isn't news" but Microsoft did claim in post exec interviews that all of what was shown was indeed real time.

LOL I've never seen this before, thanks for the laugh.

If kinect 2.0 was so amazing that it needs to be included with every Xbox at the expense of specs it better work in any environment. That shows you how confident MS is in Kinect.

So, that's it ? Because his hand was in the pocket ?

No one want post it because it just an immature speculation.

As much as I'd like the rumour to be true, it's pretty much busted. I understand why it seems like it, but if you keep watching you'll come to realize that he's not using a remote. Later when he says "trending" and "Xbox go home" his hand are out.

Well, it's a sound idea, to avoid shit like Miyamoto's demo of SS.
That's what I thoguht when I mulled it for a few seconds. We're talking about a setting that's pretty much the polar opposite of how this is supposed to be used, it was going to go about as badly as when watching the stream on an Xbox with Kinect connected.

Actually, I'm on #TeamProbablyFake, but the premise for this article seems a bit sketchy. If it is faked, I doubt they'd have it controlled by a clicker in the presenter's pocket! Why not have someone off-stage do it?

Guys,

This is the headline:

'FYI, The Xbox One Voice Commands Weren't in Real-time' <- Affirmative

and then

"his left hand automatically goes into his pocket, presumablyto press a clicker to proceed to a new slide or something similar" <- Presumption.

I'm sure everything was staged, but this is a terrible article.

The Kinect Disney Land demo was just a video & the kids were actors. Again, not really surprising. Pretty sure most on-stage demos are fake.

I wouldn't be surprised they didn't want to use voice commands in that environment. Voice commands for dashboard control are already accurate and responsive with the current Kinect, so it's nothing to worry about.

As for that Star Wars GIF, it's more misleading than what it's trying to portray -- that was part of the Cirque Du Soleil Kinect launch event. That guy isn't demoing the game, he's mimicking it as part of a dance routine about Kinect. Not that it matters much since Kinect Star Wars sucked anyway :p

Oh, if a Microsoft exec claimed something, then we know we're getting the truth.

Wait, wait, this just in...Microsoft can officially confirm that they cannot confirm whether this was a real time demo. No, it was. Wait, it wasn't. It might have been? It is, but only if that makes you happy. Otherwise, no comment.

Obviously many people posted in this thread didn't care to read the article.

Show me your hand unless you are using wireless mouse to switch your powerpoint into next page.

Of course it was fake.

I think I also saw a gif of this in which that Yusef dude was doing the "snap" thing with Kinect, and you could clearly see that the window snapped BEFORE he actually made the gesture. He quickly tried to correct himself. I don't have the gif though and I have no idea where I saw it.

The sad part is that they really try to sell it as a real-time demo by saying "Let's see that again" over and over.

The fact he pulled up a NBA game on ESPN in the middle of the day to show off live TV didn't tip anyone off? Or how HBO had a watermark on the screen when they don't do that? Or when he full-screened Star Trek before the Skype call, the "border" clearly adjusts to fill the screen again?

Maybe they should. That way we wouldn't have had the embarrassing Skyward Sword or Wonderbook demonstrations...

Personally I'd rather see an awkward but genuine demonstration rather than some smoke and mirrors shit.

Unfortunately, I (we?) am getting used to this kind of acting. I'm not doubting its functionality will work on the final product, however.

Didn't see this posted anywhere, did a search for 'real time' as well, nothing turned up. If old, please lock, and I'm sorry.

Anyway, IGN reckons that the voice commands during the really impressive Xbox One multitasking and UI demonstration weren't real time at all... they were being controller by a clicker.

Whereas I think it's okay that a Kinect wouldn't be able to be completely reliable in a presentation environment, I still think it's kind of sleazy that they tried to pass it off as the real thing when it wasn't. I wish they had put a small disclaimer, or anything. Right now, the most impressive thing about the Xbox One stands to be jeopardized because of needless speculation.

I guess this was your first presentation yeah?

Smart move by Microsoft, I personally feel live demonstrations offer way too much risk and little reward. Fuck up one time and the internet is making a meme and silly hashtag about you in minutes.

Were the TV programs that were shown during the demo actually on at the exact time of the press event?

The Price is Right footage was live, at least from what I remember. I paused the presentation, flipped over to the other tuner and rewound it to check.
