Damn, animated PNG! Is use of this format bannable?

I think it is, won't risk it.

Edit:

Losing animated avatars never had anything to do with server resources or implementation problems. It was purely a design decision. Animated avatars are not coming back.

Ok, I have a piece of information I would like to share with you guys.

Croatian official Sony dealership has started taking PS4 preorders at the price of 3999 HRK/€528. I've talked to one guy in the Sony store and asked him if that was just a placeholder price considering that Sony made no price announcement. He told me that this was the information that was given to them as an official dealer of Sony products.

Now, considering that in Croatia Playstation products usually cost about €70 more on launch when compared to RRP for EU, my estimate is that PS4 launch price will be €450 in Europe (and I guess $450 in USA).

Now, I don't know if there are multiple SKUs, so this might be the price for just the more expensive one (I doubt Sony will go north of €450) or it might be an indicator of just one SKU.

So, once again, I'm not betting my account on this, this isn't some top secret info from SCE, it's just what a guy from dealership told me, so take it as you will.

$450 would actually be great :)

OH NOES. I want it to be 400€. BTW, are they accepting preorders for release in 2013 or 2014?

The promotinal flyer merely says "Soon":

Short translation:

"SOON, reserve your unit"

Fine print below says:

Voucher value is 500 KN (cca. €66) and by purchasing it you are making a reservation of your PS4 console. Final price will be reduced by the voucher value. You get 300 KN of extra discount (by preordering). Expected retail price is 3999 KN.

Also, considering that this ad was running on tonight's Champions League final:

I'd say that 2013. EU launch is almost 100% confirmed.

Mountains of salt, etc. Doesn't really mean much.

That translates to pretty much £399, so that's good at least. If the PS4 is more than £399 in the UK it won't sell well at all.

I will most likely get mine from Hungary, local prices in Serbia are way overpriced for high end electronics.

Fingers crossed for 400€ price.

Actually, thinking about it. If Sony launch the PS4 at $499, that translates to £330, so hopefully we won't end up paying more than £350 in the UK.

I'm going to guess that the Xbone is going to release at around £250-300, if Sony doesn't launch the PS4 at the same price I really can't see them claiming the share of the market in the UK.

I find this strangely worded, if we assume it's meant to come November/December:

"set for launch"

Seems like that would mean they are ready to launch much sooner, much sooner than Holiday 2013 they said in February.

What do you think?

I think it says "set for launch" instead of "launching" which could mean its not happening in 2013 anyways >_>

/pessimistic view

If they do that then it will sell really well. Do we know if that camera comes with the system?

They (rightfully) sacrificed the camera that was supposed to come with every PS4 for the 8GB of RAM. So no, it'll probably be only in more expensive models, and won't be necessary to use your console.

I don't get it, what does Chelsea's win last year have to do with the PS4 launch? Where are November/December coming from?

8 gb ddr5 and the gpu. maybe even some things in that DS4.

Compared to Cell and Blu-Ray in 2006, this is chump change. Sony learned the hard way that nobody pays $500 for a game console so they wisely built a system as powerful as possible while being affordable for them and consumers.

There's nothing about this system that should cost $500.

1 SKU, $399. Get your pre-orders ready, playboys.

I could see there being a $499 SKU. Why not? There's high rollers out there that would buy it. Bigger hard drive. 12 month PS+ sub. Second controller. Killzone Shadowfall included.

There's many things they could do to justify a $500 SKU.

i think they'll copy nintendo with how they did the wii u but it would only affect the hard drive and one will come with a ps4 eye. so $399 and $499 is right.

I would like a 429 price. I thought it would be 399 before the 8GBgate.

Adding -gate to something assumes there was some sort of controversy or scandal. As far as I'm concerned there was no controversy or scandal when Sony unveiled the PS4 will have 8GB of GDDR5 RAM.

My hope is that $399 is the absolute highest for their base SKU. Anything higher and it will have to be bundled with 1 or 2 games that I'm excited to play.

You shouldn't underestimate inflation (which is pretty significant after a seven year period) as well as the fact that the system does come with quite a few goodies (DS4, good GPU and RAM, possibly the eye).

Hopefully the hdd is actually changeable and make it easier.

I'm probably getting an SSD for my system - hopefully they won't go for a fixed drive!

So PSEye is confirmed to not be a standard? I didn't know this...

8GB GDDR5 is about the only "expensive" thing I can think of. The GPU is good but not crazy for 2013. No cell, no new blu-ray, should be cheaper than a launch PS3 which had a $500 SKU.

I don't know much about inflation, but 2 year after PS3 launch there was economic bullshit, deflation and stagnation. Also, what are people willing to pay for today? $500 is pushing it, they need a $400 SKU at least, if not cheaper, IMO. I could see $430 as someone said though.

It'll still be nowhere near what the BOM for the PS3. That cost them $840 dollars to make at launch and they sold it at a gigantic loss.

Sure, you can justify a lot once you start packing in games and controllers but that's beside the point. I don't think we'll see multiple SKUs though.

Then MS will beat them to a pulp. 500+ euros is madness!

Prices of electronics in EU [especially in the countries that are not part of the EU] can vary pretty widely. Even in the old EU countries, price of lets say Iphone can go up and down a lot according to the local taxes and laws. The cheapest iPhone in EU can almost always be found in Switzerland.

Here in Serbia I fully expect that the local PS4 price will be 100-150€ higher from the recommended EU price.

Again, Croatian prices are ALWAYS higher than RRP for EU. It's not gonna be that much.

My educated guess (based on that flyer, what the guy from dealership told me and history of Playstation product pricing in my country) is €450/$450. Perhaps there will also be "starter" €399 SKU, but there is only one price on that flyer so that's just my guess.

$400-$500 is the safe bet. Either way, I'm getting one. Unless of course Sony pulls out some DRM bullshit, which I highly doubt.

And that's maybe even optimistic. PS3 was something like 700-750€?
