Xbone: Microsoft blames the media for consumer rage.

I wont post the whole thing because its a decent read, but here is abit of it.

The backtracking and PR-spin posts since the Xbox One reveal have become blatantly obvious now and it appears that Microsoft wasn't ready for gamers to speak up and fight back. In fact, Angry Joe and his followers have gathered quite the pitchfork and torch crew informing any and everyone about the Xbox One's policies that strip you of your rights as a consumer!

If Microsoft doesn't like the bad press, instead of blaming gaming journalists for actually doing their job for once (and they really do deserve a hand in this case) they should just be honest. If they're really planning on going through with these anti-consumer measures they should just say so. At least I'll know right off the bat which console I won't be buying.

I searched around, but did not find this article but a few places are reporting on it, so if old I apologize.

As for the article, I fully agree with the sentiment. If Microsoft does not like the bad press the they need to start answering peoples questions about Kinect privacy, always online, and used games. I dont think this is an issue that is going to just blow over at this point because it just keeps building onto itself. Really it needs to be the first thing they talk about at E3.

Patrick Klepek said it best :

Microsoft is the one who put its executives and representatives in front of the press earlier this week, and presented increasingly conflicted information. The problem has been getting anything remotely resembling a clear answer out of them. The press hasn’t mangled Microsoft’s message, it’s that Microsoft has very little to say, and wants to point the blame at someone else with the wave of a hand. It won't work.

Sorry, Microsoft. It’s your problem, not mine. Try a little honesty next time?

A world where known douchelord, inept cretin and sellout "Angry Joe" has cachet with getting monolithic corporations to change policy is not a just and right world.

But I'm willing to call Cinemablend's bullshit on that because Angry Joe doesn't mean shit to anyone with a brain, really.

Geez, Microsoft. Where do you think the media is getting all this information in the first place?

Either tell your employees to shut up, tell your employees to all get on the same page, or, I dunno, don't enforce policies that won't piss us off?

Good. At least they are realising that such measures will not be glanced over by customers now. And perhaps might even make them think twice about implementing them.

OK Microsoft it's totally the media's fault everyone is upset about your shitty policies, that even your own executives can't get straight.

lol

The pitchfork and mob mentality in this case are good. MS isn't just making an unpopular decision, they're trying to fundamentally change the idea of ownership with games. This has the chance to have some long lasting ramifications on the industry, especially if Sony goes along with it too.

Next gen should we expect a reactivation fee if we buy a used console?

Media blames consumer for the current situation.
Microsoft blames media for the current situation.

Fuck this industry.

The author is exactly right. This was one of the instances in which the media asked the hardball questions and kept pressing while Microsoft continued to waffle.

Microsoft has no one but themselves to blame for this debacle.

Every time I follow the link my iphone browser freezes, so can someone tell me if the article actually says that MS complained about the media and its reporting?

-MS targets media with the reveal event.
-MS puts MS employees in the tent with them, and apparently were the only ones clapping.
-MS gives poor presentation and shows features/policies that (some) media dislike.
-most of media talk about how bad it is, and echo the same concerns gamers are expressing.
-MS tries to clarify position on controversial issues, but only makes things much worse.
-MS accidentally retweets sarcastic criticism of Xbone thinking it was genuinely positive.
-small portion of media treats Xbone like second coming of JFC without knowing final price or list of launch titles. speaks like PR. calls us jealous.
-Amazon cites Xbone as #1 wished for product, just like WiiU and Vita.
-MS turns off comments on their YT channel, potentially keeping important information from unaware viewers.
-Pachter nowhere to be found.

it's all the media's fault MS. keep telling yourself that. hell, put it in the official handbook for Gamestop employees for when they tell customers how the new trade in system works, and how when they buy the Xbone you have to have the all-seeing-eye connected at all times, and can't physically turn it off.

edit: can "the media" respond with a "#dealwithit" campaign to fire back at them?

ALSO ALSO: can we go ahead and flip the little switch in the General Gamer Consensus Control Room to officially dub MS as Arrogant now? it's past due, but there's really no denying it now.

It seemed to me like the media has been sticking up for MS, so... this probably won't make those media outlets feel very good, huh.

Really MS? You think if the press was sucking you off harder (they're really not doing enough to educate the masses as far as I'm concerned. Not even close) that we wouldn't be raging right now?

Fucking insane.

Where exactly did Microsoft blame the media for consumer rage?

This is the quote the article uses:
“The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox. Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games. Reports about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete. We will disclose more information in the near future

...when all the reports are based on the things that MS execs said.
