I played it for like, an hour.
It was a while back, when I was mostly caught up on RPGs and such. It just didn't click, I guess.

Now, I'm up to play anything, and I like how the style of the game. So... I wanna try the DS one, instead of going into the 3DS one without any knowledge!

(I'm also doing it to know the do's and don'ts of the game so I don't do anything stupid while visiting other towns. -_-)

Ah. :3

Right now, just meet up with Tom Nook to get down to business... AHEM and uh hopefully he sells some of the necessary tools you need to start off your gathering day with.

Axe, fishing rod, bug net, and shovel are your primary ones. Shovel up the chicken scratches you find (there's usually 3 around town, and be sure to be watchful since they can be behind trees and such, even annoyingly behind houses lol) for fossils and the like.

You can donate those to the museum if you like. Ditto with bugs and fish. You'd just sell the redundant ones. The real money is from the turnips, fruit, beach stuff, and gifts you don't like lol from your neighbors.

You can shake all of your trees for 3 of them (random) to drop bells (money) but you'll have an accident with the bees that way lol.

If your Town gets "vandalized" by another player how can you know who it was in order to remove him or her from the Friendslist ?

Oh I forgot to mention that I won't time travel. Going to play the old fashioned way since this is my first ac game! :D

So you're confirming your info on my list is correct?

Uh, you've be present to let him/her in. So yeah, you're going to be tailing that player for a bit. Although... as for the mechanics of the mii/data is going to be interesting. I wouldn't know but we'll find out soon enough.

If you are going to come to my town Philia, I expect cupcakes!

I just hope those 70 friends i have added to this point wont do any harm to my Town please be nice :)

Got this to tide me over until ACNL. It's good, right?

Oh snap. Well, I guess I'm about to find out which of my 3DS friends are dicks. I had no idea this game was such a "thing"(for lack of a better term) before this thread. It's kinda cool actually.

This is the reason why I haven't starting adding friends yet. With my luck I'll spend 3 days planting a bunch of special trees or something and have a "friend" cut them all down. I need to make more 3DS friends that I know in person so I can trust them not to screw stuff up.

I added a bunch more people (check your PMs!). My FC: 5043-1159-2527

Looking at screenshots and videos, I actually love the new art style. It's even more vibrant and colourful. I also prefer the "soft edges" (if that makes sense) on everything.

LOL speaking of, I tried the Cupcake poptart today! Its okay. I still like oatmeal strawberry. :3

Watching a JP let's play of New Leaf, the guy got a Pikmin pot the first day :lol

Yeah, its fine at the beginning since there's not a whole lot invested, but you can still turn off your wifi the SECOND you see something wrong.

VERY good. I hope you played the first one though. It really ties in with this one somewhat.

I sell gynoids whenever I find them.

Yeah, ditto. I can see the appeal of displaying them but they're not my thing.

Well, that's why I'm trying to do this master list thing. The second someone knows someone is up to no good, they can tell me about it and that person's name/FC is red marked immediately and will be informing. A negative remark spreads FASTER than a positive one.

Yep, it's really good.

Best part is that you can always jump to a different node on the timeline grid anytime you want. So whenever you reach a dead end in one path you can jump to another without the need to start a new game.

Zelda: Oracle of Ages & Seasons will be my tiding over til' New Leaf games. Two Link's Awakening caliber Zelda games I've never played before? Yes please.

It shames me to admit this but I've never played Link's Awakening. Working through Ocarina 3D Master Quest at the moment (still magical after all these years), but LA will be next.

Then Ages, and then Seasons.

Alright, here's the new set of images of the master list for you guys to keep track of everyone's FC. As I said before, anyone in white/yellow/peach are either unconfirmed or haven't told me their GMT or time travel preferences. Time Travel is a cheat method to speed up the game, its not recommended since it kills the interest in the game fast but there's few that practice this. So be aware.

If you want to be added to this list, you can pm me personally or list yourself in this thread and I'll try my best to spot it. Thanks.

OH also, you can use this method to find out who you have on your list for sure.

I won't be Time Traveling and my time zone is (UTC -5:00) Eastern time which I think is GMT-4.

If I remember correctly, yes my FC (1246-8714-1729) and time zone (EST). Just decided to not time travel. Speaking of FC, Anyone else wants to be my friend? :D

Since I have nothing to do better before starting to work and getting a 3DS and the game, I might start by page 1 of this topic and read all the way up here.

* * *

Okay, so. I've been operating under the assumption that I could back up my New Leaf town on a semi-regular basis, say weekly or something, by pulling out my SD and copying it to my computer, right?

This thread here seems to suggest that won't work.

http://www.animalcrossingcommunity.com/Topic/5752824/1/Backing_up_digital_ver_

The gist appears to be that when you save, a serial number (may not be an actual serial number, but a digital signature, which also makes more sense because it could protect the save contents as well) is incremented on both your 3DS and your SD card. So I save the first time, and both my 3DS and SD read 1. I save again, they both read 2.

Now I back up my SD. 3DS, backup, and SD all read 2. I save again. 3DS and SD read 3, backup reads 2. Apparently if I were to restore the SD from backup at this point, I would not be allowed to use the save, because the 3DS would expect 3 and the SD would read 2.

So this bugs the hell out of me. I was figuring I could maybe use this as a fallback in case I ran into trouble from online visitors, be it intentional or accidental. But, in order to protect the integrity of the save system, Nintendo seems to have blocked the ability to ever roll back a save. I can understand why—if it's a signature, it protects against save hacking as well—but ugh. I feel like my risk went up.

I TAKE THIS GAME WAY TOO SERIOUSLY

I wish I never read this. Now I'm going to be paranoid about my SD card failing and me losing years of Animal Crossing progress with no backup. ;_;

I've had enough Animal Crossing related heartache for one lifetime. Why do you have to do this to me Nintendo!?

I definitely think you should. It's easily my favourite Zelda. Don't know if that's because I grew up with it or what, but it's such a fun and challenging title, the fact it's portable just makes it all the more impressive.

Yes. This new devilry might push me to buy a physical copy.

I definitely will.

I tended to stick with console Zeldas and payed little attention to Gameboy titles until O&A. My own silly fault.

I kind of see why they do it (and apparently NL specifically has this identifier thing; other games don't), since rolling back a town could be a way to cheat at random-payout games. A hell of an inconvenient way, but a way nonetheless.

I don't think there's any way to back up a physical town. That said, the save chip on the physical copy should be very reliable; I recall Nintendo apologizing for New Leaf shortages in Japan because that particular chip was getting hard to get.

Oh I totally understand why they did it, but I guess I never just thought about it.

I'm just nervous because I lost a town once. It was soul crushing.
