That's because you can't do anything without the proper tools... I imagine after the second or third day, you'll at least have the whole set by shopping yourself AND trading with others.
You manipulate the game clock by fixing your DS's internal clock and the game will go back for you to get that missed sale or forward to hurry up the seasons... like you're playing AC on SPEED. :\ Its not recommended that you pick up some seasonal items and then go to another's town be all like OH YEAH I GOT THESE IN TODAY (AS IN NOT POSSIBLE.

Exactly. I started over today, so I set the calendar of my 3DS to the day I originally started playing the game, so I didn't lose any 'progress' for my review. I'm back on today (sunday) right now, but playing a couple days in 1 day certainly feels like a drag. Especially without the right equipment.
Another reason why you shouldn't timetravel, haha.
