It just gets crazier and crazier.

TO'ers: What's the vibe like in Toronto? Here in Vancouver, it's pretty funny in a Chris Farley kind of way, but these are some really serious allegations...
 
I'm just outside Toronto, don't know many people that like Ford, we all thought this was pretty serious but also entertaining but that article really takes away the entertaining part

It is getting really bizarre and scary
 
All of this is so convoluted and honestly.. horrifying.

I never liked Ford and always thought he was kind of useless if not negative for Toronto, but this is all too much. I really don't want all of this stuff to be true because it's too awful.
 
Well, maybe the fact that Rob Ford is in a photo with a dude that was murdered makes more sense now

Is the Kickstarter for the video hitting its 200k goal soon? This whole thing just disgusts me. Makes Toronto the laughing stalk city of the world. This is worst than the SARS scare years ago.

Funny that, if it does reach its goal, the money will either go to drug dealers or to a charity that combats drug addiction.
 
Word in the Toronto OT is that multiple copies of the video now exist, and the Star is in negotiations for one of them right now.

The Star has been working on something 'big' regarding Ford for the last few months, bigger than just this crack thing. Considering their relationship with Ford, I can only assume it's bad stuff... not that Ford is secretly a genius or anything.
 
I really want this to be true. It will make Toronto look bad, but at least it will get Rob Ford out of office, and maybe kill Doug Ford's political aspirations too. Hnnnngggh something please happen.
 
So I guess when the photographer caught Rob Ford in a KFC that one time he was actually in a Kentucky Fried Crack store.

It wasn't as though the Star said "we have this video in our hands, and we're going to to share it sometime in the future" - they basically said "Yeah, we've seen this video Gawker is talking about, and we're trying to get it".

With your feelings for the star, I don't know if you'd change your opinion even if they did provide the video.

I don't think it exists, that's what I'm getting at. Everyone seems to take what The Star writes as truth. I will be shocked if we ever see the video, so for them to now apparently claim there are multiple copies of the video is asinine.

That's because none of us have any reason to suspect the paper is lying.
 
I would LOVE to see the video released just to see the ensuing shit storm that follows. I would also love to hear Bill Carol defend this on 640 am as he seems to take the view that Ford is innocent.

Well am I wrong? You seem hell bent on discrediting the Star, but for tenuous reasons. Like they talk about seeing a video, but don't have the video to back up their statements.

This happens all the time in journalism, where people see things happen but aren't able to provide photographic evidence for the occurrence, so while we can't, shouldn't and don't take their word as unshakeable fact, we do also understand that this is just the nature of reporting. Something you seem to have issue with specifically in this instance. I can't help but feel that your particular political leanings (or whatever it is that makes you defend Ford) has more to do with your issues with the Star than any 'wrong doing' on their part.

And The Star would not risk their reputation on it if they even had the slightest inkling it was false.

And I don't even care if Ford smokes crack or not. It's just that he's a fucking rich kid moron.

Wasn't John Oakley buddies with him? AM 640 are huge supporters of Ford. Haven't listened to anything of theirs in a long, long time though.
 
There has been way too much info that has come out as a result of that first crack video for me to believe everything is 100% fake.

There is some truth to all of this, without a doubt.

I like Rob Ford and always thought he got picked on unfairly ... by the star and most city councillors in particular. Rob represented everything the left loathes and to see him voted into office by the public was a massive blow to their collective ego's. It tickled me to see somebody like Rob in office after David Miller whom I despised.

With that said I've seen enough "Rob" pictures floating around the internet to be reserved at this point in my support. All I can say is that I hope it's not true, but things are looking rather grim.

It's a shame really, as Rob (originally when he first got voted in) was the first real ray of conservative light we've had in a mayor in years.

The link you just posted in Toronto-GAF (Star overdid ‘Somali’ references in first report of drug dealers peddling Rob Ford crack video: Public Editor) is exactly what I am getting at here. They are in the business to sell newspapers and generate web traffic, not always to get the facts.

And to be clear, Ford is beyond defending at this point. If the video is factual, then he deserves what he gets. But until the truth is revealed, I don't see the value in destroying someone's image (even more than he already has) based on what a news source claims.

If you're a fiscal conservative, I don't understand how you can support ford. The dude wasted an ass load of money looking for fake wasted spending, then goes and wastes spending in all sorts of creative and cliché ways.

Hiring football coaching buddies and giving them jobs with made up titles, where you can't explain their duties when pressed? C'mon Son.

The irony of you saying this after our Somali conversation where you were wildly offensive in the Toronto thread, I hope, isn't lost on you.

Further - they posted a story that was entirely factual, and posted very quickly. But it's structure was offensive, they admitted it was offensive and they fixed it. If anything this should show how good of a paper the Star is. When you're a news agency, you're bound to fuck up - when you quickly and honestly own up to those fuck ups and make amends, then you are doing good.

And to be clear, Ford is beyond defending at this point. If the video is factual, then he deserves what he gets. But until the truth is revealed, I don't see the value in destroying someone's image (even more than he already has) based on what a news source claims.

Well, is discussing something that everyone else is discussing destroying his image? Gawker broke the story, every other news agency picked it up, and other news agencies have been breaking their own interesting/scandalous stories. Is The Star not allowed to weigh in?

Just to offer a friendly, dissenting opinion...I have personally experienced a situation where the Star outright lied for the purposes of a headline. I have had zero faith in their ethics since.

I want Ford gone too, but I don't trust the Star. That having been said, the activity surrounding this story is increasingly lending it speculative credence.
