Sonic Lost Worlds Debut Trailer [Up: Wii U + 3DS screenshots]

That preview and those screenshots have me so hyped. Looks amazing. And the 3DS version even looks like it COULD be the same game! And for the people saying "3DS up-port", it IS feasible to design a game so that it has to be neither an "up-port" NOR a "down-port". It's just going to look better on one than the other. I really love the art style, and Galaxy style gameplay has me excited.

Wow, these screenshots are so damn sharp and clean :O. I wish more devs took this approach. Less time to make artwork, looks timeless, stands out, reads well, and it just looks damn fun.

MEGATON!
Welp! I'm double dipping!

I don't really follow Sonic games, but what's the low down on SEGA media for the series? Because those are 720p screens, which makes sense, but they're also very clean. If they're indeed direct feed shots Lost Worlds has lovely image quality.

Anyway, I think whether it looks better/worse than Generations will depend on taste. The tech in PC Generations is probably better, but this is more stylised and clearly not trying to look the same. This shot:

In particular shows a focus on more vibrant, toon-like colouring of assets. Like Galaxy, really.

I don't know, I get where people are taking the galaxy comparison(level designs and such), but artistic I disagree, for me Nintendoland does a better job showing vibrant/colorful artstyle than this game so far, I guess is the lighting, it look a little bit flat. But the designs and the colors are indeed spot on.

Sorry, but I think that trailer looked absolutely awful. It feels like they've completely ignored the fact that they solved the issue with Sonic moving fast in 3D environments in Colours/Generations and gone back to the drawing board to devise an unnecessary solution cobbled together from F-Zero pipe stages, Mario Galaxy and the remains of that abandoned mess, Sonic Xtreme.

The less said about the main enemy designs, the better. People mock the "shitty friends", but these look like rejects from a Cartoon Network show.

I may well be wrong and it could end up being fun to play, but regardless, after Colours I felt Sega finally nailed exactly what 3D Sonic should be - and I certainly want more of the same.

So...even less like the original games. Great.

It's not explained in detail, this is the quote from the producer:

"In previous 3D Sonic games, even if you're running through a level at top speed, if you hit an obstacle you stop instantly. To avoid this, we added a new action to keep Sonic running, even when you hit an obstacle. To make sure it only happens when you want it to, it's triggered by the player holding the run button.”

This wouldn't make me buy a Wii U, considering how many must-have games have come out recently that still haven't pushed me to buy next-gen. But it looks great from the get-go, and I can only hope this ends well.

The comparisons this game will draw will be ridiculous.

I think we're at Sonic X-Treme + Sonic Colors + Super Mario Galaxy + Assassin's Creed + Space Jam right now.

I wonder how the controls are going to feel like during some of these sequences. I am not sure Sonic speedy gameplay really lends itself well to some of these crazy angles, but we'll see. Maybe it's just like other games were it changes to some really bold angles as you're speeding along. The screens look really pleasing.

I'm going to miss Unleashed/Generations modern Sonic too. Once you got into S ranking/time trialing the games shined. I'm all for this too, though.

This looks great. I can only hope for that clean IQ to be real and for the game to be 60fps, given the amount of geometry in play.

Well, there's no way to deny that the backgrounds aren't anywhere as beautiful as Generations'. But I'm honestly really okay with it, it might not look as great as other 3D Sonic games, but it's no secret that Sonic Team complained about the difficulty of creating 3D levels for a long time now. Sonic is lightning fast, so that they have to create a giant amount of environments which you'll only see for less than a second. It's the number 1 reason why moden Sonic games tried to reduce 3D Sonic levels with stupid gimmicks like the Werehog. If this decision leads to more levels I'm more than okay with it.

The new screens (which look great) definitely make it clear that the visual discrepancy is totally a stylistic choice, and a very interesting one.

Contrast shots between this and (I think) Generations:

Hopefully, simpler style = more levels, better frame-rate, more focus on level design.

The characters aren't the problem, it's the shitty gimmicky gameplay assigned to them.

This is the truth, but it's way too late to change anyone's opinion at this point. Same reason why people still go on about the Sonic Cycle.

Anyway, still not excited. Maybe if I see some more of the level design...

Agreed.

I'm glad Ilzuka seems to be focusing on control of Sonic in general. Was always a weak point when not going at full speed in recent games.

The game looks quite good, but some of the animation does look kinda bad in the trailer. Artistically, it looks almost exactly like Sonic Xtreme to me.

As an aside, I thought Sonic Generations was mostly bad. SA2 is my favorite post-Genesis Sonic, though, so most people probably wouldn't agree with me.

What did they fix? That Sonic controls like complete tripe at top speeds and that all you can really do is quick step? The only reason it "feels good" is because all the levels are strictly linear and just about everything is down to twitch reactions. Hell, Sonic Adventure had more depth than Generations.

Sonic Colors I'd say doesn't even count because over half of that game is completely played in 2D and undermines how Sonic controls period. This new setup seems to give a lot more precedence to Sonic moving freely rather than a strictly narrow path.

Also I'd take Cartoon Network rejects over anything original that comes out of Sonic Team's creative department in terms of grating pixie chihuahuas and Final Fantasy rejects.

I have to ask, have you ever used the gamepad? it has all the buttons the pro controller has and really great ergonomics. Also the weight isn't really high (I would say a bit heavier than a 360 pad). Only the batterie life is a bit low

I'v spent some time with it in Demo form, and one of my friends at a local store has one, and I used it for Assassins creed. I dislike the buttons on the trigger set up mainly, the face buttons I don't have a problem with. But I also don't like it because I have small hands and how far apart the sticks are.

I am used to xbox 360, and PS3. But I loved the shape and form of the gamecube controller. Which the pro controller reminds me of in set up form.

I was on Nintendo's site looking and couldn't seem to find an answer. I didn't know if Nintendo updated the System so that you can use the pro controller for every game or just certain ones.

To me for plat former's and adventure games a full face button controller is king. For an RPG where your constantly going through your inventory, checking character stats it makes sense. If your not scanning characters in rayman:legends, then there's no need for the tablet.

Yea, call me old fashioned, I just don't understand that draw of the system, to me it's what's killing it. If tablet play was so important starcraft, and RTS players would have jumped on board years ago.

I think that's Nintendo's problem with the system, that and it's under powered, but they are good at taking advantage of their own hardware. I'm not concerned in that respect, I just want to be able to play the game, and not play it in a weird Wii wand, touch screen way. For games like Pikmin where your micromanaging your pikmin it makes sense, but for a beat'em up game, or fighting game it make no sense.

That's why I'm waiting for E3, and the Nintendo Direct, Hopefully they will show a trailer for Super Smash with people just using the Pro controller.

I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't think the game looks like SMG. Aside from the rounded states. Hell, there were people saying Colors was like Galaxy because it took place in space and had power ups.

Anyway, day fucking one, looks fun as hell.

Speaking of playing as Sonic, while the iconic hedgehog is the only character players will directly control, friends such as Tails, Knuckles and Amy will make appearances in the story.

I can live with that.

Yeah, it doesn't look WORSE, it just looks different. I like both styles, but I do kind of prefer this new more cartoony one.
