It would be pretty irrelevant now. The GC one might be worth picking up, I played that after Wild World and enjoyed it, but honestly all of them will be so mechanically inferior to New Leaf.

I enjoyed the Gamecube one a lot which was why I was always reluctant to buy the DS one because I was worried it would be too similar. I guess the only thing I'd really be missing was Gen 2 music and some increased museum features.

Also, how do I share my friendcode so that I can play with some of you when the game comes out? Do I just post it here and wait?

3DS friend codes are universal, so just put your friend code up, add people you want and have them add you... then you're good for all future 3DS games with those people.

Sweet, young Tom Nook... His call to arms, his ethos, was "Dreams before money!" He was so pure that people wondered if he'd survive this crazy old world. I did too. Every night before falling asleep, I would wish him... 'Please keep Tom Nook's pure spirit protected," I'd whisper in the darkness. "Keep him safe from the apathy that breeds in the alleys of the big city...'"

There was pretty deep shit in Animal Crosisng if you knew where to look!

O-ok, my friend code is 4725-7943-5547, I'm in EST time zone, and I don't "time travel". I guess PM if you want to be my Animal Crossing friend so I can add you too...

Question: Is a flag for your town something you have to do or is it more of an optional thing?

Everyone has a flag, though you start with a default pattern on it. Most people change it.

You can see the default flag in this picture.

It's optional, but a big part of the AC games is being able to design your own patterns and apply them to clothes, the floor (think of paths), and even the town flag. You don't have to do it, but it certainly adds something to your town.

Hey GJ, I wanted to know: How's the 3D in the game?

I haven't played a lot with the 3D on to be honest, but it looks great. The rolling log effect of the game gives it a really nice look. Don't expect anything special, but it's pretty neat :).

What are mayor points for? Unlocking projects or something?

On day
..2..
of the game you have to do some 'getting to know the game'-tasks to get an approval rating of 100%. It's kind of like a tutorial. You don't have to do it all in one day though, but you can't start working on the public works projects and ordinances before you get this 100% rating. You can improve your rating by talking to villagers, cleaning the town from garbage (by fishing), planting trees, watering flowers etc etc.

Oh that's great. I love having the 3D on at all times in my games. Even just a little 3D can make the game more sharp and crisp.

Yes, but you can improve this rating by doing other things. Talking to villagers helps a lot. Changing the town flag is just a suggestion.

Do you lose points for wailing on certain villagers with a net?

......because that's probably going to happen.

I'm 99% sure I'm still going to get digital but the occasional report of SD card data corruption is still bugging me.

Are people really gonna start playing right at midnight? Everything will be closed.
Midnight plus however long it takes to download a gig!

(I'm gonna go to bed after starting the download myself, the following Sunday's gonna be busy)

I'll probably get through the tutorial stuff and then put it away until morning.

This is why I'm getting the physical copy. I already lost all my swapnote stuff this week. Losing my AC town would be way worse.

So some more impressions.

One thing that irks me a bit so far is the public projects to build things. As mayor you chose what goes up, and then a donation drive is conduction to build it. I've had a project going for 4 days and there has yet to be a single contribution from the other townsfolk. While I didn't expect it to be massive, I would think that a 128,000 project might see 10k a day from the other townsfolk. You as the player can pay more to finish it faster, but given time, I would have liked to see the project complete on it's own. Sure you can not pay anything, but it won't be done for nearly 2 weeks. I thought it would have been a nice tradeoff.

Nope. It's apparently all on you.

Specifically related to this game, or just in general?
Nothing specifically SD-related with New Leaf, no. The 1.0 version of the game in Japan and Korea did have some issues including save corruption issues, but those were patched and we're getting 1.1 out of the gate.

People losing their entire SD card contents or getting their Swapnotes wiped out are the kinds of things I've heard.
