I think SNES sold better in Europe. But I might be wrong. I also always felt that Mario was more popular here.
For a moment I thought it was Crazy Bus.
You know, Iwata promised that the Wii U wasn't going to make the same mistakes the 3DS did with the terrible launch and software drought... but in the end I don't care because the Wii U looks to be 3DS deja vu and getting ready to bombard us with so many great games like 3DS has been lately. August and onward is looking to be a pretty great time for Wii U owners.

Pretty-much-confirmed rumor:
They had a bunch of cool original music made for it that sounded acceptable and then something happened and for whatever reason they couldn't use it, so somebody went "shit shit shit" and downloaded a bunch of midis from VGMusic and imported them in a rush.
Seriously, people have checked and some of them are definitely from VGMusic.
Some songs in the game are not terrible (the surviving original ones). I don't have a link handy but yeah.

Back in the 90s, Nintendo was TERRIBLE at releasing games in any sort of timely manner over there, even to the point of not releasing certain games there (like Earthbound). SEGA, on the other hand, released titles around the same time they released the games in America. Sonic, as a result, was a lot bigger in the UK than Mario, and a lot of Europe.
Sonic even won as the most popular video game in UK around the time Colors released in a poll, tromping the likes of Mario, Master Chief, Lara Croft, etc.

Catching up on the thread now:
- The mechanics sound lovely and the "higher speed tier button" is something I always thought would be a cool idea for the game without going full boost all the time in 3D. Mixed with the rollcage/Sonic X-Treme/Mario Galaxy/Trackmania looking stage and this might just be the single best attempt at classic Sonic in 3D yet.
- Glad to see everyone realizes that Colors' soundtrack is the thing happiness is made of. I can't wait for the first track that gets me moving harder than Sweet Mountain Act 2, has me going whoa with the backdrops like Starlight Carnival Act 1, feels so chill and then goes into a whole new world of relaxed like Planet Wisp 1 - 3 or Aquarium Park Act 1 - 3, and finally culminates in a madcap sprint through "JESUS FUCK THIS IS AWESOME" like Terminal Velocity Acts 1 & 2.

Gameboy in retrospect was a far better choice over Game Gear though. So not too salty about that.

After Generations and even Colors in HD via emulator, it's sort of underwhelming, but still definitely charming.
Meh, nothing looks better to me than anything present in Generations on a technical level. The art style is simple and clean, very aesthetically pleasing overall. And if the IQ looks even near as good as it does in the screenshots posted earlier, then I'll be satisfied.
So I'm not the only one that immediately thought this.
