I was checking out that old Iwata Asks: Animal Crossing New Leaf interview..

The "best friends" stuff:

Kyogoku
Yes. In addition to friends with whom you have exchanged Friend Codes, you can register other players as 'best friends' in the game, and there are exclusive communicative elements you can share with them.

Iwata
Can you explain more about these 'best friends'?

Kyogoku
Well, let's say you have a copy of the game and play together with your family. This means that four of you can play, as it has been in previous titles. But only one of you can be mayor, while the others will be regular townsfolk.

Moro
I don't think things would have really held together if a single town could have several mayors! (laughs)

Iwata
No, I suppose not.

Kyogoku
There might be four people playing, but they will share the same Friend Code, as it is assigned to the Nintendo 3DS system. That means that someone in the family might visit a friend, but then meet someone there who they don't know at all. We were worried that this might feel awkward.

Iwata
It would be a shock if your friend's mother, let's say, whom you had never met, suddenly appeared in your town.

Kyogoku
This time round, we made it so that each of the four players could designate certain close friends as 'best friends', and you can make it so only these 'best friends' can come and visit. What's more, if you're connected to the Internet at home, 'best friends' can exchange messages without having to go to each other's town.

Moro
In previous titles, when you wanted to let a friend know you were planning to visit their town, you'd need to give them a call or send them an email. Now you can do that inside the game.

Kyogoku
You can also send messages to all of your 'best friends' at once. So, for example, when you come home from school or work, you can send a message saying: "I'm going to open the gate to my town now, guys!"

Iwata
Ah, that makes life much easier!

Kyogoku
In the later stages of development, we would actually use that function to communicate within the team. The thing we really got excited about was information about the price of turnips*.

*Turnips: Items used for investment purposes in Animal Crossing and available for purchase every week on Sunday morning. If the selling price exceeds what you bought them for, you will earn pocket money.

Iwata
So you were all interested in the price of the turnips you can buy on Sundays from Joan?

Kyogoku
Yes, we were. We'd be discussing the current price, and then a message would come in saying: "They've gone over 400 Bells!" Everyone would then rush to that town and sell turnips. (laughs)

Sweet.

Actually, its suggested that when the OT goes up, EVERYONE, I mean ANYONE who doesn't have the GAME YET (EU, US, BUNDLE, 3DS) should sign up immediately in the spreadsheet.

I'll add your FC as necessary in there. Other than that, your info is all that's needed.

Good news, I can add you on the master list. But in the submit spreadsheet's comment section you CAN add anyone's FC, including your sister's on there. :) Its a safe option to allow non gaffers at least.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what's the link to the spreadsheet?

You're awesome for doing this. Adding to the hype is important. :3 May I ask why you haven't dropped your FC yet? Waiting on the bundle or privacy issues?

My 3DS FC? Not a privacy issue, just want to be more... discerning? I'd rather get codes of people the day of release (both EU and US) and be sure it's people who'll have the game right then to play. Plus I just like small lists so people I choose to play with right then will get on, and likely stay on the list versus creating a huge list then being unsure of who's joining and why.

In short, I'm picky.

Darlin: There will be a new one every day till release, and this was the shortest one (the first two were two hours each) this one was shorter because there were a lot of people over today AND I have editing duties to do for our regular channel.

(edit) On my friend code, I may be tempted to loose it to a couple people in this thread, but not today (my XL is on the other side of the house and I'm too lazy to get it ;))

Animekatt: Thank you! Not sure why we got screwed in central florida... I was hoping since I literally live in a city directly inbetween tampa and orlando that we'd get it (naive hope).

I just saw that there will be one in Kissimmee thanks to GamerGod, so that may be closer to you! I live in Debary (5 mins from Sanford), and I just don't feel like driving through the I-4 tourist traffic to get there XD.

It's not... I would/will have to go through I-4 to get there... It's not terribly far away (30-40 minutes?) but it's still during rush hour which is going to be terrible... I'll wait till we find out what games will be at E3, then decide.

Today i had the choice to either buy Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D or Luigis Mansion 2.
Aas i had already played the Wii version of Donkey Kong i went for Luigis mansion2 in order to get Animal Crossing as a free Title in the So many games promotion. Lets see if this can ease the pain of waiting a little bit.

So that KK Slider note from Labrys with the sound clip; can anyone hear it? I can't hear anything so I'm starting to think some setting is off on my 3DS that's muting sound clips.
