I think it'd be funny X awesome if the smash trailer was only 3rd party characters at the start - Sonic, Mega Man, Snake , PAC Man fever B^) instead of Kirby, link, Mario, pikachu

Do it, do it .

King K Rool has to be in it :/

Super Smash Brothers: Heroes and Villains

I actually wouldn't mind a sequel to DK64. I must be one of the few that liked the game. Would be neat if Retro was working on that.
To me its main problem is it takes every small issue of Banjo-Kazooie had and dials it up to an insane degree. Way too large worlds, literally a thousand collectables per one, it reuses a ton of cut-Banjo content, even more redundant new Kongs and doesn't have much in common with previous DKC games... I think a 3D DK game that mixed elements of DKC's atmosphere and exploration and Jungle Beat's action/combo system could be awesome if handled right, but in regards to DK64 besides being 3D, having Donkey Kong characters
and the DK RAP
I'm fine with the original just staying as an N64 one-off, as much as I love Rare.

The next three weeks will be awesome!

All the podcasts/shows will be talking E3 next week.

Then the glory and pain of E3.

Then all the E3 review/fallout/reaction

Hooray!

Didn't all that nonsense get the other thread closed? Let's not derail this thread into people begging to be photoshopped in a stupid picture.

I believe the way rumors were spreading in that thread is what did it.

Of course all of us having fun with pictures/gifs didnt help.

It was like when the teacher leaves the classroom for 5 minutes.

The meltdowns are going to be great. This will be my first GAF E3.

The games should be almost as good.

Nice, they are showing Bayonetta.

The real trick is to be in the threads during the meltdowns and avoiding the ban bait. I just missed last E3, but I was here for it all (there was an IRC chat running at the time for NintenGaf that I was in at least) and we lost a lot of good men... lot of not-so-good ones too.

This is the company that spent 25 minutes talking about about Arkham City on stage a year after it came out. I fully expect this direct to have around 15 minutes of new stuff (3D mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Retro) and 45 minutes of everything we've already seen.

that's true, but the quality of their nintendo directs has vastly improved over the last year (for instance, in january, they had a direct who's final ten minutes were better than nintendo's entire e3 presentation last year). if they follow their trend, this has the potential to be pretty incredible.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo had a ND next week or post-E3 specific to the 3DS, though at this point of time I'm pretty satisfied with the 3DS and the last announcements (Yoshi's Island, Bravely Default localization, etc) that I would be okay will a heavier focus on Wii U for E3 than 3DS.

Someone break down the time allocation for the following:

1) Open with Super Mario WiiU, much like how they opened with Skyward Sword one E3
2) On the topic of Mario, transition to Mario Kart WiiU
3) Still on a Mario-related note, transition to Yarn Yoshi for WiiU
4) On the topic of Yoshi, transition to Yoshi's Island for 3DS
5) Continuing the 3DS, transition to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2
6) Still on the topic of Zelda, proceed to The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
7) Proceed to another fall WiiU title, namely The Wonderful 101
8) Still on the topic of Platinum Games, transition to Bayonetta 2
9) On the note of third-party collaboration, go to SMT x Fire Emblem (unlikely, but still)
10) On the note of epic RPGs, transition to Monolith Soft's X (and 3DS title, why not)
11) Touch on story-driven games for NA: Bravely Default, Layton vs. AA, MonHun 4
12) Highlight major RPGs Pokémon X and Pokémon Y (first simultaneous global launch)
13) Focus on expanded audience: Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Wii Sports U
14) Return to "core" and drop the Treasure 3DS project Bob-omb
15) Then drop the Retro Studios WiiU project Bob-omb
16) Reggie: "One more thing" -- SUPER SMASH BROS. 4

But the direct focuses on the Wii U, not both systems.

I really, really hope that there are more surprises than what Retro has been making. I feel like I know everything they're gonna show off. :/

No, what got the other thread closed was all the "insiders" that kept saying they had inside info.

If the gifs got the thread closed than the Sony E3 thread would also be closed.

Yeah that's the problem this year. They've already said what we should expect.
I'm guessing the january Direct was rushed in panic and that we were meant to found out about X, SMTxFE, Wind Waker and Yoshi only at E3. Especially those last two, when you announce something with SCREENSHOTS it's just that you didn't have time to do it in trailer form.
That and the Pikmin/Wii Fit/ Wii Party delays.
Nintendo rarely announces stuff well in advance and now they sit on a shitload of Wii U games to fit in a one hour presentation.

I really can't see much more than one or two surprise announcements. Even Retro isn't much of a surprise.

I'm excited for this, but like most everyone else in here, I would have liked to have been longer. Nintendo is in a precarious position for that, though. Since they decide to have their's on Tuesday morning, they have to take the media into consideration. They'll already be pressed for time to get to the convention center and all to get started, plus everything needing to be done before hand. I think that's one reason for the shortened length. Don't really have much of a choice...

On the other hand, I gues they just figure that's plenty enough time. Idk. Just throwing something out there lol

I have the feeling that if Wii U had had a better launch, then Yarn Yoshi, Wind Waker HD, and X were going to be the "more" surprises.

Since E3 2012, Nintendo has used Nintendo Direct to announce Yarn Yoshi, X, Wind Waker HD, Wii U Party, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, Bayonetta 2, Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Whatever Olympics, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Mario Golf: World Tour, Mario Party 3DS, New Super Luigi U, Link to the Past 2, Yoshi's Island 3DS, Pokemon X/Y, and probably like more than half a dozen eShop titles.

In the past, most of those games would have been saved for a major event like E3 or a Nintendo fall event, or sparingly sprinkled throughout the year in Famitsu.

Now, Nintendo's throwing them out there because they have to. Expecting any Wii U "surprises" other than the formal unveiling of Mario, MK, and Smash, and maybe Retro's game is expecting a bit much because Nintendo has more or less shown most of their E3 hand months early out of necessity.

edit: ha, kind of beaten on my first part

All this looks great, but I want a new Rhythm Heaven!

(I'm excited about 3D Mario and SSB, obviously. I'm looking for reasons to pick up a Wii U when I move out later this year, since I don't really own a Wii)

maybe last month's direct was like the 3DS E3 Direct? Because they announced Zelda, and the media had an event where they could play it right after.

Even if they don't have an actual event, they'll still have a ton of 3DS stuff on the show floor. Nintendo didn't rent out extra floor space for no reason, they felt like they needed it for all they have to show this year, and that alone makes me hyped.

Hope they show something about SMT X FE, just a few screens or something.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The trailer they announced it with was more like a shitty slideshow with a few sentences written in Paint. They're probably very early in development.
And Atlus still has to beg for more money/time to model/redraw all those demons!

I feel pretty much the same which is part of the reason I'm being so negative about it. E3 is about the unknown and surprises, and I'm afraid we might not get enough surprises. However, there is another way to look at it - that those titles would have been shown at E3 2011. We really didn't get a lot of first party titles from Nintendo revealed, which is a big reason why that E3 sucked so much.

But I think you're probably right about expecting few surprises. If they reveal everything now what are they going to show us in future Directs? I'm not a fan of stretching what we normally would have found out at E3 into several Directs throughout the year honestly. It sounds good in practice but then we get to E3, and I wish we didn't know about this stuff. :P

Of course they could surprise us.

Yes of course, I was just saying maybe 3DS might not even get mentioned during the direct. Kind of like Sony last year treating the Vita like it didn't exist, only to have a lot of games on the floor.

still, I'm sure they'll show more Pokemon. They kind of have to, if the 90 minute event is media only. I'm also hoping for more 3DS surprises like MH4 this winter.

Going in.. these are the four possible "Surprises" to me

-Whatever the 3rd Sonic game is. It could be something simple or something grand, but I assume it will be there
-Whatever Retro is working on.
-Whatever the rest of Nintendo "2nd parties" are doing. Headstrong is rumored to be working on a Wii U title, and I don't know how much of Monster Games worked on the port of DKCR so who knows
-A 3rd party collab, they've been good with these at trade shows and feel like may have one more in the chamber

Guys, of course there is going to be a surprise beyond Retro's game. We've had at least one completely unknown game almost every year.

*Sigh*
I guess :c
I just really want to see how it will play.

Stuff like Bayonetta 2 and Project X I'll give you were probably intended to be surprise announcements at E3, but some of that other stuff such as DKCR3D which is already out and the Sonic games which SEGA always shows off their stuff before E3 probably wasn't. Both Yoshi games also looked to be in such early development (especially the 3DS one) that unless they look dramatically different at E3 I sort of feel like originally they weren't even meant to be revealed until next year.

Though Smash alone is enough to excite me so I'm probably being somewhat apologetic.
