I remember going to my friends house one Christmas to see his ps1. wipeout blew my mind. The graphics, the speed, the music, brilliant stuff. We had the n64 but there was something about the games being on a cd that made them more special.

My fondest PS1 memories come from games like Twisted Metal 2, Tekken games, Tomb Raider, Crash and CTR games, Bloody Roar 2, Winning eleven, Driver 2 and Ridge Racer.

Those were the days.

Lol, the AI in Twisted Metal 1 were funny as hell. Suburbs stage I would constantly see one of the vehicles get stuck in a back and forth loop for like a min. and so many times on the Rooftops stage, the cars would occasionally just drive off the buildings and die. Good times.

Rooftop stage was my absolute favourite, jumping from one building to the next on my motorbike, it never got old.

I think the best PS1 series was Spyro. The feeling of adventure and happiness while playing it is just too good. The music, the color, the different types of characters who make the world even less "lonely." It was all so perfectly crafted. I wish with all my heart, that Insomniac got the license back and emulated their past success once again, even if it were a downloadable title. There is no doubt, that it would be successful with some advertising.

Also DemonNite! Remember to make the sequel of the Kaz Asura's Wrath GIF!
I keep thinking we need another The Shining gif. Phil Spencer as Halloran rushing into the hotel to help Matrick with tons of exclusive games. Then Kaz drives a megaton in his back... (EDIT: ...or his front. And I guess the scene is a lot slower and quieter than I remembered. Ah well, guess I should leave the gif conceptualizing to the masters.)

CTR, such a shame, LBP Karting could've become its spiritual successor, what a brilliant game it was!

For all of you Day 1 PS4 buyers: How many fps are you gonna get? I mean we'll have Killzone, CoD, and Battlefield all out on Day 1.

I'll probably just choose one, Killzone or Battlefield (and the multiplayer will be the biggest deciding factor).

Still has not seen any first day purchases worthy of full price (to me). Could be BF4, but I might buy that for PC instead.

My hope lies with E3.

Ya'know, considering how Activision there at the PS4 reveal with Diablo and Destiny...

...There's a part of me hoping Activision and Sony have some agreement with making a Crash game for PS4. Maybe an HD collection, or having it be a side project with Naughty Dog?

I can dream.

Also, my fondest PS1 memories are playing the original Crash games and Croc back when I was a child.

I wouldn't expect Naughty Dog or Sony (through another one of their devs) to ever develop another Crash unless they fully own the IP. It had to be painful for them to have Crash ripped away from them after building it up to be such a successful brand.

I remember playing the shit out of Goldeneye 007 at my friend's house for hours on end. It was that game that made me want an N64, my older brother was less impressed though, and wanted a PS1 for FF7.

So when it came to decision time, my brother overrode me to our Parents and they bought us a PS1 instead, that came with Tekken and Rayman. Had a lot of great memories with that thing.

I think Knack will take care of that itch.

Maybe it's time I finally give FF VII a spin. I've been trying to get into JRPG's but haven't found the right game (tried Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, and FF XIII) yet.

You guys are lucky, my parents got me a Sega genesis from a garage sale... at the time I'm pretty sure everyone was transitioning to the PS2.

They really were. Knack actually made me very nostalgic for the PS1 when they showed it at the reveal, which is why it's my most anticipated PS4 game. Well, until a lightning-less FF is announced at least :P
Same here! knack being a kinda mysterious game till now is my most anticipated game for PS4! We're almost there anyway!

Well it's kinda of old, not sure if it will do it for you, but I love it and would never tell you not to try it.

Not long now GAF. Im really excited to see what the new console looks like.

It must have been a busy week with DRM/used games, as I totally forgot we haven't even seen the console yet.

I just cannot wait until it is put up or shut up time and I can get on with my life.

VII has aged so bad, I don't think I could play it today without the nostalgia factor.

I would recommend IX out of the PS1 games, it's fantastic.

I was in pretty much the exact same boat. I got a second hand SNES from my cousins pretty much the same time as my neighbor got a PS2. I remember going over to her house everyday to play Crash. Don't remember the SNES at all. Good times...

If you play FFVII, you really have to play it for the characters and the story, because those parts of it are timeless. The gameplay itself is pretty dated, as well as the graphics obviously. It's still fun once you get into it, but there are a bunch of things missing that we just take for granted in modern games now (such as analog sticks).

Would you recommend it overall? What about compared to X? I know that has an HD Collection coming out in the future. (I guess it does break the rule of being a PS1 game though!)

You could join us in playing Vagrant Story. Gaffers have been playing PS1 classics every month but this months thread is late due to Toma slacking :(.

It's getting so close I can't wait to see what they show (the actual system, the unannounced games, partnerships, etc) I know they will probably have to spend some time showing off the non gaming aspects as well and some time on PS3 and VITA, but I hope there is a good solid hour or more on PS4 and it's upcoming games, etc.

Also can't wait for GAF to melt down and even more GIF's cause that's the best part lol.

For someone looking to get into RPGs, I would recommend FFX over just about anything else at this stage, especially with the HD remaster on the way. While FFVII had the best story in the series in my opinion, I would place FFX's behind it in second place. Also, I feel that FFX has the best battle system in the series, and there is a ton of additional content outside of the main quest (although a good chunk of it can be very tedious). And of course, FFX just feels like a much more modern game with realtime 3D environments, much better character models, voice acting, etc.

EDIT: I will say, though, that FFX is about as linear as FFXIII in terms of story progression and moving from area to area. The difference, however, is FFX feels way less monotonous, as there is a much greater variety of things to do along that relatively linear path. In addition, FFX gives you more freedom in its combat system earlier on than FFXIII did (where you basically had your party and roles assigned for you for the first 20 hours of the game). Like FFXIII, FFX opens up a lot towards the end of the game, giving you the option to pursue side quests outside of the main story. However, there is much more variety in FFX's side quests, compared to FFXIII only really having hunts.

#PS1 memories

Getting a PS1 for Christmas with Tomb Raider, Crash, FF7, and Resident Evil.

Playing the Pizza Hut Demos of FF8 and MGS.

Playing the shit out of the Syphon Filter games with my older cousin.

Playing CTR Everyday with my friends after school.

Watching my Brother play threw the resident evil games am then playing them myself.

Any chances of Sony's Gakai possibly being ready for launch to stream PS1/2/3 maybe PSN games?? wondering if i should finish the backlog as much as i can now or wait.

I just had an ideia... I think Sony should include PS4 demo discs with the console, just like it was with the PS1. It would be so nice.

It would be cool for nostalgia sake, but I think if they do that they will just preload demos onto the PS4. They could even pre load a few of the F2P games like Planetside 2 if its ready for launch.

I still think (especially if the PS4 and X1 launch at similar prices) a pack-in game would be a good strategy. I think a game coming with a console immediately bumps up the value proposition by a lot to most people. On the other hand though, it's more than likely that the PS4 and X1 are both sold out all Holiday this year.

I doubt it, but who knows? Would be a nice way to give people stuff to be happy about if they have PS+, since they won't be able to give away PS4 games at launch, obviously.

I'd definitely recommend IX if you are going to play it on psp or vita, small screens are kind to ps1 games, on a tv not so sure. It doesn't take itself as seriously as FF games tend to these days, it's very charming and funny and actually has a likeable cast of characters.

X is great too. It is similar to XIII in some ways, but it's a thousand times better.
