Nintendo E3 Site Opens: E3 Direct one hour long. Teases some games.

Sakurai mentioned in his blog that he's been playtesting Smash, so I don't think it's that unlikely that there'll be snippets of gameplay shown. Brawl's first appearance at E3 2006 had less than a year's work done on it, and there was some gameplay footage.
Whatever happens I just hope it doesn't look like an updated version of Melee/Brawl. However, I'm constantly reminding myself that a 3DS version exists with crossover capabilities, so maybe my expectations are too high. :/

You know, watching Nintendo's E3 press conference expecting 23 new Wii U games and then seeing freakin' Batman Arkham City right after Pikmin 3 was like a huge blow in the stomach. Maybe that's why I'm not feeling too good about this E3. Hearing that the Direct would be 1 hour long doesn't make me feel much better either...

Thank goodness for GAF hype, though! You guys are so insane I can't help but be hopeful <3
Let's hope they convince me to buy a Wii U.

Love. it.

I'm just so curious about 3D Mario. New Sonic looks like is following the Mario Galaxy blueprint... Does that mean that next Mario is going to be completely different?

E3 conferences usually last an hour. So, a one-hour Direct is even better, since Directs are by their very nature more efficient: no technical snafus, no time wasted walking on and off stage or pausing for audience applause. And remember, the whole reason Nintendo switched to Directs for E3 is so they could target different audience: Gamers with the E3 Direct, and separate presentations for retailers, etc. In other words, in theory, all of the sales bullshit will be excised from this Direct, meaning even more time to focus on games. Also bear in mind: The January WiiU Direct was about a half-hour overall, and in the span of like 17 minutes, they unveiled TWW HD, Yarn Yoshi, Monolith Soft's X, and more. One hour is plenty of time, especially in Direct format.

I know the feeling. I even invited my then-girlfriend to come over and watch the conference with me. She wasn't that into video games, but she definitely support my interest in them. It was terrible to be so apathetic by the time it was over.

But an hour-long Direct doesn't mean it will be good or bad; it's the same time as their usual conferences. I'm still hopeful. Whether that makes me naive or optimistic remains to be seen.

Hyped to see some surprises, but I'm actually interested in stuff already announced to be shown.. mostly Smash but I doubt they are very far into it unfortunately.
At least one surprise for sure, what the heck is Retro working on. This better not become the next Last Guardian situation.

Brilliant.

This may be a dumb question, but do we even know the 3DS version is a platform based party brawler, and not, say, a deck building card battler that unlocks exclusive stickers on the Wii U version?

Seriously. At this point I think I'm more excited by E3 for the gifs that appear then the actual events themselves.

I think there's supposed to be heavy emphasis on customization and online, probably a much deeper stage editor and something substantial for characters too..
Would be nice if they included a 64 and melee mode for old fans.

dat bear...nice work!
in any case I'm curious to see what they did with 3d mario, hopefully something nobody expects. Another galaxy would be a bit disappointing.

If absolutely nothing else, this Direct will show us:

- the first 3D Mario in HD
- the first Mario Kart in HD
- Smash Bros. in HD and 3D

We also know from the silhouettes we will finally see Wind Waker HD in motion. And more of The Wonderful 101.

That already makes for a fantastic hour, imo. If X, Bayonetta, Pokémon X and Y, Yarn Yoshi, Yoshi's Island 3, ALttP2, and others show up, the more the merrier.

And if Retro shows up? Megaton.

Yeah. Unless 3D Mario, Smash, and MK7 look like upscaled Wii games, I don't know how Nintendo will screw this up.

Of course, I thought they would bring it the last 2 years and I was completely wrong..

Guys now you've done it! You've pissed off our lord and saviour E3 Bear! Quick! Go to the bathroom and lock the door, turn the lights off and turn all your taps on and repeat "my body is ready" 3 times in front of the mirror. May he be a merciful bear.

The thing is, there is no guarantee that those three titles will impress. If you would have told people that A Link to the Past 2 and another Yoshi's Island were coming, I'm positive that they would have had a good reception. But when they were actually shown, so many people were disappointed. The same goes for Wind Waker HD. It's probable that those three games will not be universally praised.

Even if it were so, Sakurai is doing it, so I'm hyped.

That's what I was thinking when I first saw Sonic, it even seems like there's a possibility of Nintendo letting Sega borrow the galaxy engine. It bodes well for Mario... Galaxy was good, but I want something new. Hopefully we'll get "Super Mario Adventure", the 3D Mario that's been sitting in the back of my head for years. An open-world 3D Platformer with towns (or one huge main town), a pretty big and varied world map, epic bosses, light RPG elements of some sort and of course, plenty of stars to collect.

The perfect fusion of 3D Mario and 3D Zelda, made with the pioneering spirit of the N64 games.

It will never happen :(

Well, I just got a Wii U off ebay this afternoon.

So I guess I'm now more interested in what Nintendo announces this E3 than I was 24 hours ago.

Hoping they show something of the same magnitude of the Super Mario Galaxy reveal. so, yeah, no pressure!

Maybe I'm being too jaded, but that GAF member rumor that Mario Kart Wii U would be an upscaled MK7 sounded depressingly realistic to me.

Mario Retroverse, though... lol

Make it happen Miyamoto. Imagine the meltdowns of a Zelda & Mario crossover.

The only criticism I saw for both games were regarding the art styles, and not all that many people were disappointed in those aspects. Also, there has hardly been any news about either titles since their reveal, resulting in limited discussion.

Hopefully my wish will be granted and I can get the chance to double dip on Bayonetta: Climax Edition on the eShop before Bayo2 shows up.
As for surprises, I want Persona 5 for WiiU and/or 3DS to happen just for the meltdowns! :P

Visually. And it's possible.
