He's obviously playing it cool as fuck.

Ah, good at least there was that. Still sad he wasn't strong enough to totally get away. They didnt show someone try to save him? I seem to recall someone trying to save Grey Wind in the book, but can't recall who it was. Maybe they'll show more of him in flashback next episode instead of using all the effects on the dragons.

Arya is feet away when soldiers come and kill him in his pen.

.....well one of the damn heroes better win out in the end.

I don't give a fuck how groundbreaking it is if too many more of my favorite characters die.

I guess I can agree with that.

Starks better kick some ass in the end is all I am saying......

If his fictional world burns..... I will make sure the real world does as well.

As Theon's "mysterious" captor said a few episodes back, "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention..."

Martin himself has said that we should expect a "bittersweet" ending to the ASOIAF saga.

If you're expecting the ending to be a big Stark reunion at Winterfell with trumpets, chariots, and ten minutes of goofy smiles and giggles, you probably should do yourself a favor and find something else to watch.

So pleased they're gone. The three worst characters without a doubt. Robb was arrogant and dull, Catelyn was insane and annoying, and the wife while a real looker was so vapid in terms of characterisation.

Yeah, I imagine the best ending is, the world doesn't end. Or maybe the best end will be that the world ends. It's 50/50. Other than that, I imagine no one will be spared from punishment.

Last scene was hilarious, it was great. The mother's "Arrrrrggghhh!" was almost a Vader "Noooooo!"

Loved it, great episode!

Couldn't agree more.

Thread title itself is a spoiler, imho.

Yeah it kinda was. I was browsing GAF before watching the episode and i knew something big had happened. Honestly Game of Thrones is so big here we could do a weekly episode discussion thread.

However i literally screamed out NOOOOO when the massacre started holy fucking shit so brutal!

You only have one of these moments every couple of years with great television and cinema. I feel bad for people who have been spoiled. I just stay the fuck away out of OT's.

I don't understand though. Was Lord Frey behind it all? Just because Rob Stark went back on his oath to marry one of his daughters??

And why did one of the men say "Lannister sends his regards"?

The episode 9 of season 1 AND 2 had the most significant events, you'd think people would figure it happens in 9 and not the finale, the finale has big stuff sure, but it's more fallout from 9.

And why did one of the men say "Lannister sends his regards"?

It was a plot between the Freys, Boltons and Lannisters. The Freys and Boltons switched sides.

Roose Bolton was a bannerman sworn to Robb Stark. One of Roose Bolton's men (Locke) captured Jaime Lannister (and Brienne) and chopped Jaime's hand off. Roose Bolton had the opportunity to return Jaime to Robb, but he instead decided to send Jaime to King's Landing. When Jaime left, he told Roose Bolton to tell Robb that "the Lannisters send their regards" (since Bolton was going to be attending Edmure Tully's wedding, where Robb would be). Bolton betrayed Robb once he sensed that the war was a lost cause for the north.

Assuming you're a tv viewer
lord Frey was not, he had support from twyin, remembers all those letters he wrote. And lord Bolton betrayed Robb, formed an alliance with the lannisters and becomes warden of the north in return. But lord Frey only went thro with it because of twyin protection and support

It was exceptionally difficult to contain myself this episode...my wife asks lots of questions throughout as she knows that I've read them, and her response was felt more than the actual scene.

Full on hand over the mouth, no blinking, the occasional "holy shit" and "oh my god" were priceless. I just sipped my beer and shook my head. I liked the liberties that the show took...somehow made the scene much more visceral, IMO.

Oh well, on to next week.

Game of Thrones bookreaders really seem to be on top of the douche chain holy shit. I remember it was bad with Harry Potter but with this damn.

It actually makes me not want to read the books, god knows what it does to ya!

Edit: Well, not all of them, but quite a few.

Make you bitter, just like you are now.

What a nice thing to say, especially since lots of us have kept our mouths shut/dodged questions about it all season, knowing that it was coming.

Yeah you're right actually. I should have said alot of them or more than other fictions. Apologies.

No worries, mate. I'm sure there were lots of douches out there that acted as such when it was happening. Even worse, ones that made a big stink about what was about to happen a few seconds before.

Haha, nice.

I didn't even think of that but, now that you point it out...yes.

During the show I said how distinctively humoristic this episode is and that I wonder what's coming up.

If I knew how right I was... Serves me right for not reading the books yet, even though I have them. I don't know how this was written but they couldn't have shot this any better. Masterful punch right in the gut.

Compared to pretty much every other place on the internet, you've had it pretty good. In any case, you are misinterpreting how we (bookreaders) feel...We are just as pained by the tv viewer only we've held this scar for years.

Like all social animals, we want to share but we've not been allowed until now so you are seeing us "exhale" a bit....we all loved these characters so if anything, this is a "we get you" moment. Relax.

...and do read the books...they add so much depth and history and gives these events greater meaning.

One of my friends is like this actually. He is still my friend but he can be an actual douche about it. He pretty much spoiled Ned Stark for me back in the day and another major event that i thankfully half forgot about. I was not even talking about the GAF readers because i tend to stay away from the OT's :p

But really glad i got to have this moment, i'm still in shock!

It's as innocuous a title as it can be. For what has become GoT's patented, big episode 9 event I thought it deserved its own thread. The response is in accordance with it.

Early in the first season, before I started reading, my brother in law (who had read everything in print to date) simply stated that "it's not going to go well for the Starks, or anyone for that matter."

I sort of inferred what he was getting at, but took it more as "this series isn't afraid to kill." Man was he right.

Welcome to the club non-readers. :|

While it is great to see how it affected everyone, I was actually spoiled by this before I read it and Robb was one of my favs. :( The dread reading up to it though was horrible. When you go back and rewatch, you'll see lots of subtle omninous signs from everyone involved. Anyway, I have no more favs now.

As far as my avatar, I'll stick w/ it for another week or so, then it needs to be retired. When Gut confirmed what would happen w/ Talisa too, I thought it would be good to have since it wouldn't be relavent much longer.

GRRM said some of the story was inspired in part by the War of the Roses. Anyone who lives in a town named York or Lancaster knows who eventually won that. This is a good sign and bad sign. :/

I've read the books and this ep still shocked me. Especially the womb stabbing. That wasn't in the book dammit!!!!!

You feel that non-book readers?

That's the feeling of a scar being carved on your heart. You won't lose it, it won't heal any better and it won't make you stronger. It'll just open.

This is the burden book readers have lived with for years.

Your welcome.

While it was shocking, I have no scars. I was happy Robb and Catelyn died. They played the game wrong and their decisions were starting to get on my nerves. Hopefully we are closer to Sansa meeting her end and Arya going on a murderous rampage.

I lied, some scars. Did they have to kill the dire wolf?

I bought the books after the second season. I finised half of the first book and was happy wth how faithful the show was to that book so I stopped reading. I'll get back to the eventually but probably once the show wraps up.

As a non book reader I didn't have a clue what was coming. Soon as I heard the music & Cat noticed the body armor I thought maybe shit might go down. And it did...Just brutal. Was way more shocked than I was with Ned's. The. way they closed with the silent credits, just eerie....and so damn good.

One episode left until its time to pick Team daenerys or Team Stannis I guess

Seems most people can't know a difference between reality and a TV show. I watched, was like "WOW that sucks" at the end of the episode for 5 seconds, them was moving to do something else. Geez.

I knew what was going to happen but was still like "oh wtf!" But seeing everyone say they were done with the show after the wedding made me laugh.

Yea that was brutal. Theon's finger flaying was insanely brutal as well.

I didn't mind that. Theon is a dick

But seeing Cat's face was just devastating. Robb, her last son being murdered in front of her like that. She doesn't know that Bran, Rickon and Arya are still alive. And Sansa is with the Lannisters.

You could see her life fade away before she got her throat slit. :(

I knew it was going to be a good episode when the 2 GOT threads were at the top of the OT for over an hour after the episode finished.

So pleased they're gone. The three worst characters without a doubt. Robb was arrogant and dull, Catelyn was insane and annoying, and the wife while a real looker was so vapid in terms of characterisation.
You don't actually feel this way. What's happened is that the pain of these characters' deaths has made your mind scramble for a defense mechanism; a way of mitigating the loss. Namely, convincing yourself the characters weren't that great anyways.

I didn't actively dislike Robb/Talisa but their parts were usually the least interesting thing on the show for me.

I think my favorite part of the episode was Walder casually sipping from his pimp cup while this was all going down.
