Was browsing through E3 reveal videos and found this gem:

All that excitement created in less than two minutes...an hour is plenty of time.

This just goes to reinforce how mind meltingly awesome E3 2006 was for Nintendo and how far they've fallen from that path. I mean, how could they go from THAT to

loldrums-1.gif

edit: I mean c'mon! Opening a conference with Miyamoto directing a virtual orchestra with the wiimote and then going into a montage of game after game after game! All that hype and potential surrounding motion, red steel still being a 1:1 simulation in our hearts and minds, galaxy hitting blindsiding everyone with how gorgeous it was, prime 3, zelda, excite truck, warioware, BLAAARGH AAAH *EXPLODES*

That could actually be interesting under SPD's supervision. I would prefer a 3rd person Metroid by From Software, though.

You have single-handedly crushed any bit of interest or even hype I had for video games, knowing that this will never be realized.

And now, in light of this E3, the Wii U will be the greatest thing ever!

And holy shit at 3rd person Metroid by From Software.

God damn, the only E3 that has even come close to 2006 is 2010, and even then I think 2006 was presented better. I mean, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: TP AND Metroid Prime 3 all coming around launch?! Can you imagine if that had actually happened?! But still, having all 3 at the same E3 pretty much beats any other since then...

But maybe this E3 will be the one to rule them all...God I'm so fucking hyped, even more than last year, but the amount of disappointment was practically enough to create a blackhole within me.

same here, that black hole is slowly becoming a supernova thanks to all these amazing gifs and posters..

E3 2001:

Luigi's Mansion
Super Smash Bros Melee
Pikmin
Wave Race: Blue Storm
Star Fox Adventures
Metroid Prime
The Legend of Zelda (mind blowing realistic Spaceworld 2000 teaser)
Eternal Darkness
Donkey Kong Racing
Mario Kart
Phantasy Star Online
Star Wars Rogue Leader
Super Monkey Ball

Mario Sunshine was revealed later that year at Space World 2001, along with Wind Waker.

Looking back at the E3s before the launch of Gamecube, Wii and 3DS, E3 2012's showing for Wii U was a fucking travesty. This year's Nintendo Direct should have been shown LAST year.

This is the big one. The one we've been waiting for, and the one we've been expecting for 2 years now. About time Nintendo.

You're absolutely right. This E3 will be what we were expecting this time last year and more. This is the big Wii U statement, where it finally sets out its stall and shows off the big guns. This is the centrepiece, this is the defining moment, this is what we'll look back on and think of as the moment that the Wii U came into its own.

Hype?

I can't get over how amazing that Attack on Titan parody is. The Direct logo, the Reggie face (with exposed musculature!), the Xenoblade sword... Oh man. PERFECT.

Nintendo was totally confused about whether people gave a shit about announcements of future software and whether it would make a difference. In sales, it probably makes a small difference, but in long-term perception, it makes a huge difference.

Hype!

Thanks guys, now I'm imagining Attack on the Titan Opening with Reggie, Iwata, and Miyamoto's faces in place of Eren, Mikasa, and Armin's.

This is the first E3 since the WiiU released. Sales are sagging. People want to see games. We already know what the system is, how it works. There have been firmware updates, etc. So really, it's all about the games now. We've been promised new 3D Mario, new Mario Kart, new Smash Bros. We know from the E3 site there will be TW101 and Wind Waker HD, the latter making its debut in motion (rather than screens). All of that is quite exciting right there. This being E3, it's also the perfect venue to show off Bayo 2, which they've been teasing (teaser in the fall, dev doc in Jan Direct). Of course, there is the Retro question, as well. If Nintendo wants to build momentum, they could show off X, as well, which already seemed quite far along in production, and which they deemed notable enough to close out the Jan Direct. SMT is a franchise receiving a push this summer with SMT4, and Fire Emblem Awakening has done well, so maybe Nintendo will try to leverage that with SMT x FE, as well? And then there's Yarn Yoshi -- Yoshi sells, and we haven't seen more than 11 seconds of footage, so might as well show something. Of course, this is the time for Pikmin 3 to put its best foot forward. I'd say there's a lot one can very reasonably expect out of this Direct. :)

I'm assuming Wind Waker is a third as it's closer to release, then again, wasn't Mario Kart due at end of the year?

Wind Waker has a Fall date.

Kart and Mario have no dates but both are obviously coming this year.

Wind Waker is a shitty game for a limited time demo. Simply makes no sense.

There are times where I really wish I had some artistic chops. I'd edit the first scene in the opening so everyone's holding broken Wiimotes instead of swords and roll on from there.
