It's entirely possible that he'll be in the Direct at some point. He almost always is.

I imagine him sitting in front of a fire with a sweater on, sipping on coffee while giving us the lowdown on wii fit u. The he suddenly rips his sweater off throws it into the fire. It fucking explodes. Written on his perfect six pack abs, and built chest is "Star Tropics!" Why'd he throw the sweater into the fire? Cause he is Bill goddamn Trinen.

Your fine with it though because he's in the habit of bringing last minute surprises.
It's true, the last time Reggie melted me with those big brown eyes, he gave me ALTTP2. And before that, DKCR3D. Not too shabby.

But I'm still broken after E3 2012, Reggie. :(

Reggie just seems to be so sad and tired now whenever I see him in a Direct.

Makes me feel sad :(
Come-to-Jesus Reggie is just a fad, until they see they're not trending with housewives and swinging seniors anymore. Then it's back to ball-bustingly brutal come-at-me-bro Reggie, the Reggie who wooed us at E3 2004, E3 2006 and E3 2010.

I mean the fantasy lists of games and announcements are fun to read, but at the same time, it's sort of like a teenager watching a lot of porn and then being disappointed by actual sex. When you build up the fantasy in your mind the reality is never going to compete (especially when you're a virgin, 135-pound teenage boy with acne trying to make love to your 3-year long crush on a single bed with your sister in the other room).

Sure, we might know that Smash, Mario, and Mario Kart are coming and, sure, that might deprive us of the 5 minute high from being completely surprised (a-la X) but to hear that seeing, for the first time, 3 of Nintendo's biggest franchises in HD is going to be boring is hard to fathom.

Even if Nintendo announce a half dozen hard-core games, including Mother, Star Tropics, Ice-Climbers, F-Zero, Wave Race, and Takamaru - the *reality* is that those projects are going to not be released for about a year, or longer. The Wii U is still going to struggle for a few more months, and the next big release in the US isn't until August. Sure, it'd change perception, but it doesn't change the reality of the Wii U's situation right now.

Incidentally, I think the same thing happens when people cry out for new IPs and then go 'Oh, The Wonderful 101/Remember Me/Knack isn't my taste. I want *another arbitrary type of new IPs*'. The idea and possibilities of 'new IPs' surpasses the reality because people have built up the possibilities in their minds.

So we know Nintendo has partnered with Namco Bandai (Smash 4), SEGA (Sonic publishing), Atlus (SMT x FE) and Platinum (W101, Bayo2). Who else do you think they are/hope they are partnering with for some upcoming titles?

I'm kind of hoping that they team up with Capcom on something Mega Man related. It'd be nice to see a new Mega Man title on the Wii U in some capacity, or possibly see Nintendo help resurrect Mega Man Legends 3 on the Wii U.

I'd be awesome if Nintendo managed to work with a western dev team on a Wii U title too. A safe bet would be Next Level Games. They've proven themselves worthy with Mario Strikers Charged, Punch-Out!!. and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. It'd be nice if they were working on something they haven't already done, perhaps letting them work on a new Star Fox title or a different Mario sports title.

It'd kind of be a nice surprise to see something like that show up in the ND; though I think if we do get an announcement similar to that, it'd be the Retro title.

i'll say it until it happens. Capcom could very easily be working on the next Zelda game.

-Just like Namco-Bandai is one of the most developed fighting studios in Japan, Capcom is the leader in Action-Adventure
-Capcom's worked on Zeldas before
-the current director of the 3D Zeldas is just recently an ex-Capcom employee.
-Nintendo obviously has a close working relationship with them because of MH3/4, Resident Evil - those games even got Wii U ports which show Capcom may have a stake in the future of the Wii U
-Dragon's Dogma wasn't a major seller either, the sequel should really be put off until next-gen consoles move into households
-Zelda is not a big money printer for Nintendo anymore, but big enough to be a highly lucrative property for a third-party. this game needs to come out even if they don't make a whole lot of money off of it.
-lots of parts of Dragon's Dogma could translate into Zelda, just like how Tekken could translate well into Smash Brothers

You know, even with my hype-travaganza, I'm honestly totally fine with just:

- New Smash
- New Mario
- New Mario Kart
- TW101
- TWW HD

New media on all of the above (first media, period, for Smash, Mario, and MK) is more than enough.

Chances are we'll also see Bayo2. And maybe Retro's title. If Retro doesn't show up, well, at least the journos can ask, "Hey, where is it?" And at least the suspense will ease up for the time being, until the next potential reveal.

We might also see Yarn Yoshi, X, SMT x FE. All titles we know to exist. But the first five I listed (Smash, Mario, MK, TW101, and TWW) are guaranteed, and that's good enough for me.

Way I see it, as with everything in videogames, have FUN. The fantasy is part of that process. :)

That's not what I'm saying.

For example, the Xbox One was said to have 15 exclusives, including 8 brand new IPs, in its first year.

The hype that causes in some people ignores the reality. Wii U will, if Mario & Mario Kart make it before holiday, have had 16 exclusives in it's first year and four or five brand new IPs. Some of those Xbone games will inevitably be disappointing (Fantasia, Kinect Fitness, and so on). The reality of what 15 exclusives means is outweighed by the hype of just hearing an arbitrary, relatively large number.

It's not acting out of line to imagine the possibilities, and there might well be a few surprises, but reality is reality and Nintendo has limited development resources and money and a lot of games announced but not released.

To be serious for a sec, I have this nagging feeling that one of the 3rd party collabs is going to be a Megaman title.
Don't know why I think that, I just do.

I saw all these posts talking about potentially having Earthbound available after the conference and had no idea what anyone was talking about. Took me a bit to remember that Nintendo said it would be out by the end of the year and it was just my cynical understanding of Nintendo Time that made me automatically think December

That would probably git my hype engine going more than anything else

Yea totally, It's just getting a bit silly in here and I've got fanta all down my front
I wasn't trying to be mean
We're all here to have fun
AREN'T WE.
WE'RE ALL, HAVING, FUN.

Its just hype. Do any of you watch sports? Do you have a favorite team? I know yall dont be expecting them to lose the game against a tougher opponent nor do you start hyping yourself to believe the QB is gonna pass for 600yds 8TDs blowout. You just let it happen. If they win it might not even be how you expected. Say they won by one point. They won, at the end you are satisfied. And if they lose you suck it up then do the samething next week. Its all for fun and it shouldnt take over your life or affect you mentally or none of that stuff.

Don't know why I think that, I just do.

They should really just hand over the damn IP already. If I can't have my 2.5D Metroid, then I'll be needing that 2.5D Megaman/X.

Hey, Neiteio come on man. Don't say that kind of thing. You're flying off the rails and I'm worried about you, ok? There, I said it. I'm worried. I just need to know that you're safe. Tell me you're safe.

No, I don't know. I think this is a serious world issue and we should all act like respectable adults here to address this issue. What if the DEA gets wind of this, huh? We need to act smart, and not let ourselves feel an inkling of excitement.

This is fantastic haha

I love how this thread's "realistic expectations" are ridiculously impressive. Having the reveals of HD Mario, Mario Kart, Smash (in some form), Retro's game, etc... sounds like a dream for a Nintendo fan.

On top of that add additional footage of X, Yoshi's Epic Yarn, Wonderful 101, Bayo 2....(and I know this is a Nintendo thread but all this plus PS4's full launch reveal, wallets are screaming)

I guess given how long the Wii U has been sitting, rapidly losing the interest of consumers and devs, it's about time they gave everybody a reason to want the system. I expect a "relaunch" of sorts this Fall. Not a new image or name of course, but a strong marketing campaign almost treating the Wii U like it just released. I imagine the average consumer barely recognizes that the Wii U exists.

The best part is that these are all confirmed.

If Metroid, Star Fox, or F-Zero pop up though, I wouldn't even know what to think. That's probably looking into e3 2014 though.

Retro's game hasn't been confirmed for E3.

Unless MK8 is their game.

Here are my completely realistic predictions:

-Super Mario U: It's an open world Mario adventure that builds on the model set by Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, but instead of choosing levels, you explore the four corners of the Mushroom Kingdom by foot (or through the Warp Piping system that helps you get from one end of the world to the other quickly). After you save the Mushroom Kingdom from doom, you are blasted off into outer space, and the game becomes Super Mario Galaxy 3! There is also a sidequest involving racing go carts in grand prix races with all other Nintendo characters. Retro designed all the courses (which include all the courses of every previous Mario Kart game, plus 16 new ones!)

-Banjo-Threeie: The original team that worked at Rare at the time of BK has reunited and created a new development team called "nFrequent," and they will make games exclusively for Nintendo. They're first exclusive being Banjo-Threeie.

-F-Zero Xplosion: The 3rd Sega exclusive for Wii U. It builds on what GX did, except now it has online multiplayer.

-3 exclusive Capcom game deal for Wii U including REmake 2, REmake 3, and a title called "Resident Evil: The Alternate Story" which is a finished version of Resident Evil 1.5, but in the style of the REmake titles.

-Metroid Dread done by the same team that worked on Zero Mission. This will by a 3DS game that uses beautiful 2D sprites. It almost completely nonlinear like Super Metroid and Zero Mission, and it takes place on some planet where the Galactic Federation is sending in hunters that they created (using cloned Metroid and X DNA) to destroy Samus.

-Retro's new title is a spiritual successor to Star Tropics on the Wii U, though it's more of it's own IP that is more or less a mixture between what Metroid did with Prime and what you'd expect a Retro styled Zelda game to be.

-Super Smash Bros. Banana Slamma! will be revealed via trailer. All the characters are replaced with Bananas. It disappoints everyone. At least 50 fanboys will kill themselves. :/

-And the conference ends with a tease for Zelda U. It's back to the basics, but in a way that offers the grandest Zelda adventure possible. Dungeons can be done in any order, the overworld is huge and open, and all the dungeons are interconnected through underground ruins (like Metroid). How they show all of this in a quick teaser is incredible! Everyone's minds will be blown.

Oh, and between each new game revealed, Nintendo shows new footage of Yarn Yoshi, Yoshi's Island 3DS, X, and ALttP 2.

The best part is that these are all confirmed.

I didn't know if Retro's game was really confirmed to be there in any form. I remember reading something about somebody saying he hoped they would show something soon (vague, i know lol)...but that is it. DCKR hit in late 2010, so I suppose it's about time for something to surface.

Edit: but I wonder if they will hold back simply because they already have so many key franchises being unveiled.
I completely forgot about Wind Waker HD, and the chance that they show something for the next Zelda (not holding my breath for that one)

KeeSomething is trying to save this thread. When darkness fell, when all hope was lost, when the Grinchy tyrant StreetsAhead chastised the Hypians of Hypetown, KeeSomething rose, like a phoenix out of Arizona, to fuel our fanboy hearts with bananas in Smash Bros.

Ah, Retro's game aside, of course. I'm not sure if the rumor that Retro decided to hold back on their reveal last year was true or not, but the article on IGN just makes it seem very likely that the reveal would be at this year's e3- assuming it's not Mario Kart 8.

I seem to recall in a recent article about Monster Games' work on DKCR3D, and how Retro was impressed, some supervisor/producer at Nintendo indicated he hopes to tell us about Retro's game sometime soon. And then there were rumblings (here on GAF, but I know not the source) of Retro allegedly hiring testers, which IF true, would possibly suggest debugging demo units and shit. HMMM.

Banana Slamma?? Ahahaha ok ok now we're talking
Sakurai's contract with Nintendo ran out and he had to completely change all the characters and anything to do with Nintendo's IPs
There was no time left so they had to make some unfortunate decisions.

Only on:

I'll just be satisfied by a couple unannounced surprises.

If Retro's game is there (and of a genre I enjoy) along with a Kirby 3DS, that's a success for me. If Retro's game doesn't interest me, but there's a Wave Race U made by Monster Games and an Advance Wars 3DS, also a win.

If it's Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D, Yarn Yoshi, Pikmin 3, W101, Bayonetta 2, Yoshi's Island 3DS, and a Smash Bros. trailer, I'll be disappointed despite the fact that I want to play all those games. Pikmin 3 is my most anticipated of any of them, but I'm the least eager to find out more.

What did we do to deserve such a fate.

These are the repercussions of letting hype ascend into unreachable levels. We have indeed sealed our own fate.

SAMSH BROS SEALD FATE SOUTHBOUND DESTINTIES Q1 INSIDER INFO!!! WOW WOW

Honestly I'm pretty hyped for Microsofts conference. I have this strange feeling that the games they show off will actually look really good.

Still not hot on the console itself but if it gets enough exclusives I want over time I'll probably pick one up out of weakness :(
