Microsoft cancels post-E3 media roundtable

About the demos moneyhatting (LOL it's too funny to even think to do something like that XD)
even the announced Destiny gameplay reveal on the sony show can be removed?

I don't get it either. I thought people were dissing MS because they "forgot about the core gamer" Where are the games people scream.

Ok.. here, we're buying up lot's of games to show because people want games, so we are spending our money to bring the games.

And now it's a how dare you type of thing.

Well, you guys can keep pretending not to understand it.

But many people that have been vocal about the "GAMES" of E3(Aren't interested in buying the console due to the shift to TV), but there are others who said that a majority will be multiplatform titles, as well as kinect games, and timed exclusivity. Unlike Sony's first party titles/investment into studios and technology. I'm sure you missed the commentary about just buying a PC to play said multiplatform games, avoiding drm, and buying a PS4(if no drm, for some)

If you avoided those posts some how, and came to the conclusion that all anyone was saying was exactly "I want any type of game period," thats incorrect. No, that really isn't the concern. The concern is that Microsoft, who buys timed exclusivity and shuts down studios without creating a first party lineup, is going to repeat themselves.

And what if you don't get the opportunity to ask? What if all you get is absurd answers?

Like I said earlier in this thread, as far as I know we still have our interviews scheduled. Stephen is doing them all. And if Microsoft still won't give him any straight answers - which seems unlikely to me - I'm sure he'll write about that.

I don't think Microsoft is dumb enough to stonewall after how the Internet reacted to their reveal event, but if that were to happen, I imagine we'd call them out just like we did last month.

So much vitriol in this thread. It's like you're all forgetting that journalists have been trying to get answers from Microsoft for weeks now, and that their answers have been absurd. You're nuts if you don't think every journalist in LA will be
trying to get some straight talk about how used games/always online will work on the
XBone.
I think that post was mocking Microsoft's dodgy attitude more then games journalism. No matter how many questions you guys ask I'm going to assume you're not getting many answers just because of how Microsoft is acting.

By "so much vitriol" I was referring to other posts in this thread.

Can anyone else comment on mortimer's post? Seems like something that people with insider knowledge could quite easily confirm or deny?

You should re-read. They aren't buying games or exclusives. They're buying the talking points so people will only think certain games aren't coming to the PS4 when they actually are. There is a huge difference.

I don't know....... MS did say they had a billion dollars to spend on games for the next XBOX.

Perhaps they are just taking some poetic license with the statement?

Edit: Yes...Sarcasm.

I do not see why anyone is worried, everyone knows CoD, FIFA, Madden and the rest are coming to both consoles, regardless of who shows what and when.

But is it really wise for publishers to "hide" their games in order to appease a company? Where are the gains for EA, Activision and the rest? If they are getting a sack of coins for this, then i wonder whether that is enough coins in the bag to half promoting their game, and if the Xbone is the lead version their games will look worse than the PS4 counter parts, suddenly this holiday season you might have commercials for Xbone games that look worse than games on the PS4 and publishers that do not hop on board

They still got Square, Bungie with a rumored gameplay premier of Destiny and rumors goes Rockstar to present exclusive games that will visually look stunning. If we were to guess it would seem only a few big western publishers are in for this, EA obviously, Activision with CoD and potentially Bethesda.

I really hope everyone knows what they are doing here, cause this could have major ramifications for some of these companies if this does not work out for Microsoft

They don't to talk about tech specs after the games. It's fine. They have to make preparations for making deals with cable channels around the world. As such wasting time talking about specs and yield that barely makes sense to the so called industry journalists who can't separate GDDR from DDR let alone average public.

I mean if the average user is like Alex (from GT roundtable discussion) Then they will buy the box regardless of what's in it.

I'm really at a loss as to why people find this rumoured move to lock down third party promotion, etc by MS disgusting, underhanded, etc.

It's the exact same thing Sony did to Sega and the Dreamcast. I guess people were just as angry back then but didn't have an outlet?

It's gone on forever. Nintendo illegally pressured third party developers from supporting other consoles.

It's free money if the only string attached is to promote xbox one at E3. There's still months to release ps4 footage and properly show off the finished games, might as well take MS's panic money.

Outstanding.

I'm certain they're gonna announce Always online/used game blocking and this will be their way to avoid bad press.

Is it scheduled for Monday evening or Tuesday?

If they cancel the Q&A it will probably be the wiser choice, when you consider their situation and how their top management can't stay consistent.

The shit storm started after the reveal in a big part due to their statements and answers to the press.

I bet they don't say shit about their DRM during the press conference. Why would or should they? Just have it in there and don't talk about it. Let people buy the box and figure out on their own that they are basically long term renting games from publishers. It's not like mainstream media is going to cover or highlight the restrictions of the thing anyway.

Lol........wat?

No offense, but you have no idea whats going on.

I wonder if MS are going to hire people to stand in front of Sony displays, throw sheets over screens etc. Paying to hide games at a games show is complete bollocks.

One on one interviews are far less biting than group questions. There's much more opportunity to deflect responses. Not to mention the press have a fairly terrible record of asking any tough questions.

Last time we went through a generation change at least we had Kotaku's very own Luke Smith hammering away at everyone.

(You look like Desmond from Lost, don't you think?)

Good move by MS. No reason to have a Q&A when your A's are horrible for the consumer. Best to sweep it under the rug for as long as possible until they craft their narrative.

I've talked to more people since then though and this isn't the usual jostling for publishers on stage that happens at E3. Microsoft is throwing BIG money around to reverse course on idea that they aren't a games console. The rumors are that PS4 versions of multiplats, by those who do take the money, won't be shown AT ALL. Not on stage and not on the show floor.

this sounds like microsoft. it sounds like the same tactics they've been using for the last 3-4 years. multiplat advertising, timed exclusive content, forcing publishers to have parity on games.

my biggest fear is that they force publishers to have parity compared to PS4 games, negating any hardware advantage we might have in our inevitable PS4 purchases.

ATM Microsoft is binge drinking thinking about what it did wrong. It's cancelling events and stuff because its image is in tatters and its whiskers are long and its breathe smells like Jim Beam.

They can turn it around just like your uncle can turn it around. But damn if it ain't gonna take a lot of money and a lot of help.

Well yes and Stephen has always asked the hard questions as well.

I wonder if he still thinks Boom Blox bombed.

To be fair. They promised GAMES, GAMES, GAMES!!! I don't see any mention of questions in that do you?

They obviously already have a narrative. They just don't want to talk about it because it's not what people (ie. Vocal gamers) want to hear.

Sure I do. And I don't see a problem with throwing your money at third party developers to money hat an exclusive.

What am I not getting?

Its not exclusive...........

They are throwing money at devs to NOT show at the PS4 conference. Thats all they are doing.

Why is that commendable?

Haha, kinda like Sony at the start of this gen.

Money hatting FPS and textures incoming.

I'm not sure why so many people think they know more about my job than I do. I have done plenty of both group and one-on-one interviews, and the group interviews are usually a waste of time. They're awkward, boring, and often full of dumb questions. And no, a roundtable is not more biting than a one-on-one interview. I'm not sure where you're getting this idea.

(You look like Desmond from Lost, don't you think?)
I wish!

Spending money to prevent your competition from getting their message out, instead of spending it on actually improving your own product. Genius!

Screw these guys. They must have nothing to offer me as a gamer.

whilst others keep pretending they're not just desperate for their "side" to win then they can think what they like.

you have no idea what games are coming the desire to presuppose and trash them is as much a pretense as anything else and very transparent.

and the many extra studios they've opened don't fit that at all.

There really isnt a positive reason they would do this. The only conclusion is that they arent prepared or dont like the answers theyll have to give to some of the questions they will get.

Yo Desmond, answer my damn entitled question! Is your interview scheduled after the Sony conference? It's an important question, as it will indicate whether MS has finalized their stance on a few issues.

Good move by MS. No reason to have a Q&A when your A's are horrible for the consumer. Best to sweep it under the rug for as long as possible until they craft their narrative.
More like: No reason to have a Q&A when you don't know what the A's are yet.

The broad policy issues are not going to get locked down by next week. They probably won't be sorted out until much closer to launch given all the 3rd parties that need to be involved.

Trotting out a bunch of guys offering speculation and inconsistent messages is the last thing they need.
