With the Wii U games that they've already revealed, Nintendo appears to have the next two years covered in terms of AAA releases so far.

2013:

Game & Wario
Wii Party U
Wii Fit U
Sonic: Lost World
The Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Mario Kart U
Super Mario Underground

2014:

Xenoboris
Yoshi's Epic Yarn
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
Retro's Project
Third Sonic Exclusive
Bayonetta 2

2015:

Super Smash Bros. Unchained
The Legend of Zelda U

All they need to do is fill in the gaps with F-Zero, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Donkey Kong, StarTropics, and a few new properties to ensure their success in the near or distant future. AararaARGGH!

Half of those games I wouldn't consider AAA or even A games. And I imagine we'll see SSB before 2015. Probably Spring 2014.

When that happened though that was so amazing. And we thought that was it for Mario... THEN THEY ANNOUNCED MARIO GALAXY 2.
I remember a couple days someone leaked Nintendo's big E3 announcements, including NSMB Wii and Metroid Other-M. Somehow Galaxy 2 was kept under wraps to everyone, which made its reveal that much more amazing.

Stupid question but where's the thread discussing this:

I had no idea - and it's already out in EU! lol

Smash will probably be their holiday title next year. I'd be surprised if it slipped into 2014.

(Also it's going to be Smash Bros. Riot.)

Have any of the supposed leakers said Retros game is a 2013 title?

I wonder if they will pull a donkey kong on us.

There's actually a good chance it could release this year. They've already started playtesting.

See, I always wondered this with Nintendo. What constitutes a AAA game when it comes to Nintendo IPs? They typically don't have giant budgets and heavy marketing. Nintendo games rely more on word of mouth and traditional media coverage compared to other franchises like Assassins Creed, Uncharted, or Halo.

I would say Zelda is the only Nintendo series that is pretty much "AAA" in the traditional sense.

No they have a press presentation right after the direct for whats playable.

The press presentation is basically private meetings for them to get footage and interviews. Its not a reveal event and in no way a substitute for a direct as its not going out to the public im pretty sure

Why announce multiple directs if they didnt plan on spreading these announcements out? If they were going to blow their load in the first one and follow it up with a 3DS direct, they could have just said that.

They never announced multiple directs.

Ain't no way they'll let Smash slip to 2015. Add Wii Sports Ulimited and a Pokemon Spin-Off to next year, and I think you're pretty much right in that we have a pretty good idea of what's coming.

I do think if Star Fox is coming it'll be for 3DS next year, by Q-Games, and overseen by Takaya Imamura (guy has worked on every Star Fox/F-Zero so far, including the 3DS remake).

1 hour seems excesive to show games we already know, a lot of filler I guess

10 minutes of Mario U footage, 10 minutes of interviews. 10 minutes of Mario Kart footage, 10 minutes of interviews. 10 minuets of Smash Bros footage, 10 minutes of interviews.
Then 30 minutes each for Treasure's new game and Gotcha Force 2. Seems right to me!

We only have minute long trailers of the 3ds game from the directs, and next to nothing about their stuff post sept.

Most things will probably get another 1-2 minute trailer and their final titles revealed and a date like the past e3s. The new tentpole stuff will probably get demonstrations. :luckily, being video, they will be edited down tighter than stage demos are.

I wonder if montages will return.

Are you speculating or are you claiming you actually know something?

Seriously though if they even show a screenshot of next gen zelda and the deluxe drops to 249 I'll get one lol. I'm weak in the knees for that shit. Those gifs above especially the first makes me so nostalgic.

With the inevitable delays that Sakurai is known for, I'm almost sure it will. Didn't Brawl take close to three years of development before it released? This time, there's going to be two separate games to develop, requiring far greater resources that will hopefully be offset by Namco Bandai's involvement. Believe me, I certainly hope I'm wrong. Perhaps Nintendo will surprise us!

True but the Wii U cannot afford to have smash in 2015 really with how it looks right now. Nintendo will try their best to make sure it can get released before then.

I wonder if the planning stage will go more smoothly. I mean, Sakurai actually knew that he was going to be making a new Smash Bros this time.

I'm wondering if that Kid Icarus: Uprising HD rumor from a while back will end up popping up again. Playing through the game on my 3DS again and I would absolutely double dip for a full blown TV-sized version of it (with Wii pointer control).

Pikmin 3
W101
Mario 3D
Wind Waker HD
X
Yoshi Yarn
Mario Kart
Smash

This ND will not be a conference, it will more a software showcase, that's what I consider 1 hour too much, it even have well known games as Pikmin3 and W101.
Well only one of those games we really know about which is Pikmin 3. The rest are still in the air. Not to remin you didnt even include Bayonetta 2 nor SMTXFE, or even considered retros game.

Wii U will share Wii's fate if they try to burn all their key franchises this/next year.
Play all you can now... forget about the console and release crappy games at the end of its life.

Do it nintendo. Make me want a wiiu. That ign guy is hyping me up. Say want you want but a dude in last years irc chat spilled the beans on platinum.

A lot of people would like pointer controls, but frankly, I'd love to play KIU with stylus controls on the GamePad. It's such a comfy controller. I actually pretended to play KIU on it -- I rested the GamePad in my lap, relaxed my left index finger on that well-grooved shoulder button and went through the stopping and turning motions with the sturdy stylus in the other hand. It's too perfect, really. An HD KIU with options for GamePad stylus controls and Wii remote and pointer would be divine.

or they could create new IPs...it's up to them. if they don't go all out the rest of the year and next, they will fall into irrelevancy

money can make any game come out when it needs to

Yesss. They'd probably include both options. Sakurai seems to be very pro-customization when it comes to controls.

I know more ports and HD remakes aren't really what I should be hoping for out of this ND...but I really hope this one does happen, haha.

I really hope Retro's new game (apparently a new IP) turns out to be a major hit and the start of a new franchise at least to guarantee a sequel this gen.

Kid Icarus port would be spectacular, but I can't imagine who they would even have left to be working on it. And I know I said it last year when the rumor first started, but I really don't see how IR controls would work with it

Kid Icarus: Uprising HD wouldn't be worth it, in my opinion. The game is gorgeous...as a 3DS title in stereo 3D. It still has low geometric and texture detail. Scaling up for the Wii U would expose all of this moreso than the 3DS did, unless they decide to rework the entire game to with HD assets. And that in itself would be an expensive endeavour.

As always, my policy with Nintendo is that they should spend little to no money on HD ports and cross platform games, and instead focus their funds and resources on getting new games and new IPs off the ground.
