It's not about delivering shit. It's about delivering bombs in a reasonable and tactically advantageous way so as to increase interest but not play the entire hand at once. You deal everything, you've screwed yourself over. Sure you appease the people, but then what? The next thing you know, you've woken up in a bath of F-zero-branded ice with a scar around your kidney and a letter saying 'more'. The games we can take as confirmed are huge games of their own accord. They show those, they've still got tricks up their sleeve. This is the beginning of a new business plan; a plan to deliver quality consistently. Nintendo realizes this is their best move. They enacted it with the 3DS, and it worked. The Mexican cartels do not care for E3. They want to see their product, and they want it hitting shelves - on time, and to a high standard. Nintendo is nothing but a puppet to them. They will take them down Jesse. And us with it. Do it tonight.

They already dropped that with the Jan Direct, by highlighting projects that are probably still 2 years away. (I wonder if SMxFE even already began development further back than a month before the announcement, lol) What you'll see on Tuesday will likely be all you'll get on the WiiU for quite some time. Outside of maybe some surprise Direct eshop games. Smash will also not be out anytime soon.
The WiiU isn't even close to the momentum the 3DS has when it comes to both sales and development to randomly drop some bomb 3 months prior to it's release.

If you think that's underwhelming, I don't know what else you expect from Nintendo, to be honest. That's something like 11 games in 12 months. I can't think of another one of their consoles that's had that and to be honest, it's got some of their biggest series.

They can announce all the games they want now, but if they're not out for more than 18 months, really - what's the point? Ain't nobody buying a console this year for a game released after holiday 2014.

Well to many people, if a game isn't announced, it doesn't exist and will not exist. I do wish they hadn't announced Mario, Smash and Mario Kart in the January Direct, though. I get why, but imagine how much people would react if they weren't expected and then shown
