TitanFall (EA/Respawn, PC/XB1/360, Spring 2014, Game Informer Leak, All Info In OP)

Man you Sony PS4 crusaders need to read before jumping, I know it's fashionable now to doubt everything Xbox One related and cast doubt on any thing positive. They did not say the game was not possible on PS4, they said their team is too small for project like this to do game for both system. They decided to went with Xbox One because Microsoft have cloud server service. It's also possible on other system but would require more resource.

So are you saying that you don't believe MS paid for exclusivity?

Dedicated servers for consoles is awesome. I hope the trend continues ( COD I am looking at you! ).

Destiny gets a PS4 version but no PC immediately announced, then PC gets Respawn's game, but no PS4 version immediately announced. Weird.

Oh come on.

If you're using Windows 7 already, 8 is not that bad.

The windows key is your friend.

I'm not upgrading my OS for a game.

So.. biggest leak in video game history? I mean we were going to find out about it in a week anyway but I have to imagine MS and EA REALLY didn't want anyone to know about this so it would be a huge, potentially console war winning surprise.

Biggest leaks were the theft of HL2 and Doom 3 playable code in early 2000s. Nothing has still topped that.

That being said, dedicated servers for consoles is awesome. I hope the trend continues ( COD I am looking at you!).

Who doesn't pay for third party exclusivity? It will be interesting to see the patterns in opinion when more third party franchises go exclusive to different systems

GI: "What XBox One lacks in RAM, it potentially makes up for in cloud computing." Talks about how the game will have unlimited dedicated servers for the game, offloading "a few dozen AI" and physics, says the game would be impossible without the cloud and wouldn't have attempted it. Still dealing with unfinished hardware and software, so it's "still a little rough going at times."

I agree. I fully expect XBL to become a monthly paid service instead of $60 a year. $10-15 a month probably.

Seeing as how MS announced that your Xbox 360 Gold will transfer over, I don't see them increasing the price. If so, most people will just stock up on a few years worth before the price is changed.

I feel kind of indifferent, to be honest. I guess it sounds neat, but it does not seem like something that I absolutely must play. Good deal for those who care, though.

Yeah I feel the same way for the most part. Maybe it has to do with it being leaked, and not seeing any footage yet, but I don't have much interest in this at the moment.

i don't see an xbox live gold price hike likely. it's doing fine as it is. microsoft are known for being a greedy bunch of twats but they don't tend to cut their nose off to spite their face so to speak.

Whoa, it's on Source? Wonder if it's a heavily customized fork of the engine version circa 2010/2011, or if they're keeping up with Valve and using a newer version that the general public hasn't seen yet.

If this shit about Source engine is true, then this will be one of the biggest games for Source, ever. As my tag (VVIS) implies, I'm a fan. My buddy would not confirm the rumors a few weeks ago that it was source. Seems confirmed.

Yeah, I don't understand how developers are developing their game. Given both the PS4 and the XBO are essentially a PC (more so on the PS4), I presume they would develop on the PC and port, but that doesn't seem to be the case thus far. Maybe I'm missing something.

So is 'cloud computing' another excuse for always online? None of it really bothered me with Diablo III, but I'm not really keen on paying for multiplayer on the 'next-generation of consoles'. Unless it's a MMO.
Thank god it's coming to PC though. Probably Origin exclusive, but that's the world we live in.

That's not really the point though. 7 is still a supported OS by MS. No reason to force users to upgrade anyway unless they'd like to be evil and make players spend extra money by either getting their console or a new version of Windows well before a new one was actually needed.

Too expensive to do a PS4 version.

Outsources a 360 version.

Paid for my Microsoft.

i would imagine it's a newer version not been seen by the public yet.

I think "Requires the Cloud, only on the XBone." is just another way of saying, MS paid us a metric ton of cash so we're going to make up some stuff about how this is only possible with Cloud computing. Although the fact that the game is coming out on the 360 and PC shows that the infamous "cloud" is not xbone exclusive by any means and makes his "only possible with cloud, wouldn't have tried it otherwise." statement a little dubious at best.

In short, this game could've easily been on the ps4 as well, but a truckload of cash made sure it wasn't.

If you think it's too expensive to do a PS4 versions then you're kidding yourselves. They are being paid not to do (or at least not announce) a PS4 version. That's the business of third party exclusives (even if its timed).

Games have had multiplayer bots (or AI) as you call it since the dawn of time

When did I say it was a new idea? All the article said was that it wouldn't have been possible without the cloud, all the games you're talking about run on dedicated servers, where you do you think dedicated servers are now?

I love that so many people hate the word cloud now.

All theses moneyhatting terms being thrown around. You have to spend money to get 3rd party exclusives for your console.

When you're talking about this game and exclusives of this kind, sure. But not all exclusives are moneyhatted.

It's a little ridiculous to read that "IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT THE CLOUD!!!1" bullshit when, well, it's actually not impossible at all.

"cloud" is basically the "HD" for Microsoft this generation: something that can actually have tangible benefits, and I can appreciate having it, but since it's used so much as a buzzword, it tends to come off pretty annoying every time it's said. As someone who uses and enjoys having skydrive, dropbox, google docs, netflix and hulu syncing my video watching positions across all devices, tons of voice commands and info on my phone, I still twinge a bit when I hear an exec mention "the cloud!"

Though I suppose it is kinda funny that one main criticism of Xbox Live has always been "they need to have dedicated servers!!", yet to some extent, that's what all this cloud stuff ultimately is :P

Correct me if I'm wrong. But, it's easier to port up than port down. The lowest common denominator factor comes into play when developing for multi platform.

Regarding Destiny...

TitanFall may not be the only highly anticipated shooter in Microsoft's corner for the next-gen console wars. As revealed last year, the contract Bungie signed with Activision for the Destiny franchise calls for the franchise to debut on the Xbox 360 and possibly its successor this fall, with a PlayStation 4 edition not launching until fall of 2014 at the earliest. That agreement was signed in April of 2010.

Sounds awesome. The running on walls and double jump in a FPS really intrigues me. Hope they demo it next week.

Lol I know. I was just pointing it out.

MS must have some deep pockets because they are throwing money at everything.

It's quite pathetic really.

evidently running them and large physics events, on the server allows the intelligence Part of AI finally as well...prerty unique for console games while the local machine is busy pushing graphics

This cloud computing is either 100% BS or it will be a bigger disaster then Diablo 3 and Sim City launch combined

Cloud computing is nothing new. It has been around and even funded heavily before by Microsoft. If all they are doing is off loading calculations then it'll work just fine. It's not like it will be rendering and sending the game back to the XB1.

That's a fair point and they probably won't require it.

Considering they're using source, it's most likely going to be on Steam and not on the Windows store.
