I spent $420 just in online access this generation

Not sure why I did it. I kept my Gold subscription going but didn't really play online too terribly much. I bought a shit ton of Rock Band content, but I don't need Gold for that. I guess I kept it active so that it was available right away during those rare times I wanted to play online.

But damn, what a waste of money. I could have put that in the bank and been ready for a next gen purchase by now.

Why is the paid subscription model still going so strong just to play online when the competition offers it for free? I regret doing it this past gen, but those few times I did play online was fun.

I guess the subscription model when I play online so sporatically doesn't make any sense.

Anyone else regret their online subscription dollars spent?

And I bet you still paid full price for a lot of those games where you never touched the multiplayer.

Distribution models really need to change next gen.

The subscription model is here to stay exactly because they made a shitload of money from people who went ahead and paid it without questioning why.

I bought Dota 2 hats.

I regret every time I buy one of those damned keys, but I can't help myself. I just need to see what's in the chest.

Only DLC I bought was, Burnout Paradise things, Uncharted season pass, and I gues Bf3 premium, even though I got it real cheap.

I paid $39.99 for a 1-year membership last year just so I could play Black Ops II with some friends (I primarily game on PS3). They didn't even buy the damn game. Screw XBOX Live...

Should have bought a PS3 and saved the money. $420 + $399 is $819, a PS3 at launch was $599 which is less. A year later they could be had for $499.

I probably spent close to $300, and I definitely won't be doing it again. There's no way I'll continue to pay a subscription service for XBL.

I just went and checked, had my 360 live on auto renew and haven't even had the console plugged in for the last 2 years. doh.

If Sony sticks with their PS+ model, I'll have no trouble continuing to give them my money.

Xbox on the other hand...tell me, what do they offer again? Besides Big Mac and State Farm advertisements, of course.

I had an Xbox Live yearly subscription renew a few times. "I might play online, though!" I used maybe three days worth of the entirety of those subscriptions. Giant waste of money.

I had one year of XBL, never again.

One year of PS+ has served me well though, allowed me to play a lot of games I really wanted but was too cheap to buy. Paid for itself almost instantly.

I just bought starhawk used and got home and had to buy a stupid ass online pass. Im not even sure if the servers are online still?

I've paid about 5 years of live, because that's where my friends were. So what that's like $250? That's like 10 "AAA" games on Steam or a Vita or 3DS XL with a game. After this gen, I don't care who's on Xbox I'm not paying another cent for live. Good thing they're either moving to PS4 or Steam.

It expired back in March, but then I ended up renewing it 2 weeks ago (3+3 deal) and I still regretted it.

I bought a year of Gold to play mw2 with my friend.

We played about 2 months, then dropped it. I used about 4 months of my gold.

Complete and utter waste of money. Its probably ok if Xbox is your only console, but I had a PS3, Wii, 360, and PC that I skipped around.

Got advantage of that crazy Netflix glitch back in the day and racked months of gold.

Then survived on 1 month for $1 for several months until a friend added me to his Family because he had a spot left that would have remained unused.

Eh.

It's going to take a lot for MS to convince me to pay for XBL again this generation. I have no problem skipping over the XBO for the PS4 if Sony continues to have free online play.

Bought a 3 month Plus sub last year so just $17.99 from me for this gen.

It more than paid for itself with the games I got to play though during those 3 months, saved a lot in the long run.

Lets see. I've had Gold for 2 years. First year I paid $35. Second year I paid $40. So $75 total for online access on the 360. Free on the PS3. Played MW3 on the 360. All previous CoD's and other multiplayer games I played on the PS3.

I owned a 360, PS3 and Wii during this generation and never spent any money for online access (other than Internet Service Provider fees).

I'm not planning on spending any money next gen either.

And I spent at least that much this year on F2P games alone... :(

So in general, online MP is the devil.

But yes, paying for the privilege of playing core content of a game intended by a dev, which uses that as a selling point is robbery. I can "maybe" see two gens ago why this was, last gen was seemingly paying for "party chat". I can't see why someone would pay for this gen, though I'm sure MS will try to show people why they should pay the Xbox tax again at E3.

420 is 8 years at the 60 dollar a year quantity

how long have you been an xblg member to spend that amount? ive been an xblg member since 2006 and haven't nearly spent that amount bro.

I've spent $300 on Gold and don't regret it at all. Got my monies worth. Great value to me.

Also spent $20 on PS+ to try it out and I regret it so much. Wasn't a valuable service to me.

I have both PS3 and 360, though I was fine with spending money on live since it is the one console my friends and coworkers all had. These systems are a social purchase first and foremost considering I primarily play on PC after all.

This coming generation is a reset in my mind.

I spent waaaaay less, but still regret it. I got 3 free months of Gold when I bought my 360. After that, I paid for 3 months of Gold whenever there were discounts. In all, I'd say I've spent around $30-$40 on Gold.

I bought the lousy Premium for Battlefield 3 and I barely play it. Just because I find no interest in the series because of its drawn out matches. The close quarters I thought was going to be fun, but you remember its Battlefield and not COD.

I bought the Revolation DLC map pack for BO2 and regretted it. The maps weren't as good as the launch maps. And I bought Live for 3 months for $14.99 and that console has been turned on once since I tried the new maps and that's it. I also spent $5 on a stupid avatar costume. Which is a total waste of money.

I spent $30 unlocking a new area in LOTRO and I never ever want to play that game again.

Its a lesson learned. Plus I have less interest in both genres.

I gave Path of Exile $10 for the beta and I never play it.

I stayed on XBL Gold for about 2-3 years paying $40 or so a year when i found deals, maybe $30 one year. I stopped buying when i thought about how much i was going to be spending for the rest of the generation against the fact that i was only playing the occasional online game and didn't like the idea of paying a few just to play a little.

Xbox just seems like a greed box.
