I went off and on. If there wasn't a game or a sale on Live cards I never felt I "had to have it". I don't think I've spent even remotely that much. Maybe bought 4 or 5 of them at $30.
Still, it was worth it at the time, all my friends had 360's, online with old friends who moved away, playing with others I knew ... was great. It's like having a night out almost, you wake up $150 poorer and have a wicked hangover, but damn it was fun.
Going forward, I don't have as much time for gaming, my friends aren't on as much, so no Live for me this round MS, unless you REALLY add value to it. I had live coming over from the Xbox and PS3 was shit at the beginning for online integration and friends lists, so that choice was easy. Coming up though, not so much.
Xbox Live is the biggest swindle in gaming history, and what boggles my mind is that people DEFEND it. I mean, Jesus Christ. Paying for Xbox Live is like paying a "chair fee" at a restauraunt to sit down.
Yes, that all your good friends are already at and have already ordered their dinner. I'll pay the chair fee because I enjoy their company.
It's simple. The value is worth it to the people that buy it. I'm sure most people can't get all their friends to sell their system and buy a PS3 and all their games or start PC gaming. It's just like having a friend that lives far away, you put up with the cost of travel because you enjoy their company.
It's a really simple concept. I don't know why you can be pissed at people who are willing to pay a couple bucks a month to play with people that they want to or find enough value in it to do so.
I don't like it, I feel like it's a cover charge at a bar that already overcharges for drinks, but damn this place is fun.
