Sony better not follow MS. :(

If they want games from EA they will.

There is probably a more user friendly solution then what MS has though so hopefully thats what Sony does but disc based DRM is here if we like it or not.

The stink for me about the X1 solution is that 24 hour check. Anything longer probably opens the sytem up to more expiration so Sony does have there work cut out for them here thats for sure.

I'm literally never considering a purchase of XbOne. I was going to see in a year or two worth of time if the exclusives and stuff held up but there is no chance now.

If Sony follows a similar suit I don't know what I'm going to do, I have a massive backlog of PS3 games at the moment so maybe I'll ride out this generation longer and buy some games I've been on the fence about and go from there until the dust settles.

I never thought I'd get emotionally mad at something relating to gaming but MS today actually made me angry for like five minutes. Now I just don't care about it XbOne.

Yea, it's pretty scary. It'll be hard to resist the urge of buyin one even if they have these policies. I wouldn't know what to do. It would depend on how the policies are received by everyone else, because if no one is gonna buy the console then there is no point in buying a failing console.

You can say that because of that belief I wouldn't buy a Vita. Well, I actually bought one a launch, because I truly thought it was going to be quite the successful device.

I would take online pass over this bs mandatory check and permission to sell a game I own, like wtf kinda anti consumer shit is that. Sony stick to online passes I have no issue paying $10-$15 to unlock the online multiplayer section of a game if I bought it used, as long as I can buy and sell my games how I want.

they could get so many points by saying something at the conference like "we've listened to passionate playstation fans around the world about how they like to play games, and that's why you can play ps4 anywhere, anytime regardless of internet access and why used games on ps4 will run just as they do on ps3"

sony pls

People can avoid EA than.
Maybe people finally choose that road and show EA how shitty they handled customers lately....

I think the consumers will decide on that. We will buy the console and games we want.

You see the probably with a game by game basis solution for Sony is it will ether kill used games or make it even harder. They will need something on the system level just like MS so games can be activated / deactivated and unfortunately they might need a online check to keep tabs of that.

Well that is unless we want to keep changing discs every time we want to play a new game and not have full game installs but FUCK THAT.

Maybe Sonys solution could be no online checks if you have the disc in the drive but if you install it and are playing HDD only then a check is required to make sure you have that licence and didnt trade the disc in? Odiously if you have the disc you own the game already and it might only have to do a check the very first time the game loads.

EA wouldn't stop releasing games for the PS4 just because it's not a locked down pos. There is way too much revenue from the Playstation crowd.

Dumb thing to say when the ps4 isnt out yet. We dont know if it will be a success or not but 3rd parties like EA will play a huge part in the success or failure of any platform. Look at the Wii U or Vita as examples.
If Sony pisses them off and EA wants to go balls deep with MS and try make it the next ps2 they will.

Please Sony, don't devote any more than 5 minutes to it at the conference. Looks boring as hell.

I disagree i want atleast 10 solid minutes of footage. I think some are not realizing how big a deal this game could be for the coming gen and if Sony can make it a "playstation" associated brand then thats only good for them in the long term.

Hmm, wonder whether the Tarsier game will be at E3?

Might be new thread worthy, I knew it before so I've been following them pretty closely.

But they've just announced their offices are splitting up, and the current CEO is leaving along with the Karlshamn office. They have exclusively focused on art out-sourcing in the past.

The Malmo office is retained by Tarsier, with a new CEO. Pursuing "original IP development" while "continuing our great relationship with Sony Computer Entertainment".

And it's PS4.

This gen Sony is like the kid who studys hard for weeks before an exam and Microsoft comes across as the C-Student who tries to cram the night before an exam and just wings it

I think what some are concerned about is that Sony filed a patent for disc based DRM. So they wouldn't even need an online connection to pull it off. The good news is that Eurogamer apparently asked a rep about that at the PS Meeting and they said that it didn't have anything to do with the PS4.

Am I wrong in this line of reasoning?

  • Sony isn't doing online DMR pings / internet connection required.
  • They aren't doing on disc DRM.

Therefore... there's no way for them to limit used games, or any of this bullshit MS is pulling, because they can't?

I mean, isn't all this MS horseshit pretty much driven by the 24 hr DRM checks and all that? Which Sony says they aren't doing.

The thing is, it's not really up to Sony. The reason MS is doing it is because of the publishers and developers. You can bet your cow that if MS is doing it, EA, Ubisoft and others won't allow Sony to get away without doing it. Maybe they'll find another way to do it, maybe it won't be as intrusive, but I'm pretty sure we won't see one console that makes used games harder to use and one that doesn't.
Or we'll see the publishers abandon Sony if so. And I don't know about you, but I don't want that to happen.

I can't believe people think Sony will go through with the same convoluted policy like the Xbox one or even worse, practically wish for it.

I think there will be something similar. If there is no requirements to always be online as already stated, clearly they will not have the same system, but I'm sure they will think of something.

Bungie is really hyping up the reveal

EA Games might be always online then.
Well, you can easily avoid them then.

THE BEST CASE SCENARIO FOR PS4:

- Everything remains the same for retail disc users, you completely own the game, with optional online pass included
- Sony enters into agreement with retailers, they need to pay a free for selling used game.

END, EVERYBODY IS HAPPY, KAZ DROPS THE MIC ON THE E3 STAGE, JUMPS TOWARD PRESS AND STARTS CROWD-SURFING

You're missing my point... I'm not talking about motive, I'm asking about mechanism.

There's a reason MS is pushing always online. They have to, to make their aggressive DRM work. At least, that's how they're doing it.

My question, is their some other way to even do it? Because, unless Sony lied, they ruled out the only two mechanisms I'm familiar with.

Sony holds the patent for rfid/nfc chip that can be inserted into bluray disc, it contains programmable data that allows all kinds of offline DRM schemes.

The last report is that Sony won't have mandatory DRM of any kind of the PS4. They'll leave that up to publishers to handle, which is how things are currently handled on the PS3. That's really the best (and probably only) solution. At which time, assuming that everyone doesn't do it, that finally gives gamers a chance to really put up or shut up.

Well yeah, that's what I was saying. Mechanically, it may be different, but the concept would remain the same. I guess people are more upset about the way MS is doing it rather than the DRM itself?

I'm not sure how Sony could do it a different way.

EDIT: ah, I see. I didn't see the most recent info about Sony leaving it up to the publishers.

Ubisoft still delievers games to the Wii U, a system without this drm bullshit.
Why should Sony feel any pressure from them ?
Watch Dogs and AC4 are getting a release from Ubi as well as the PS4....

EA is a different thing...
We all know about the Titan game and the strategic partnership with Fifa exclusive content.

Interesting. How big is the studio?

So the Karlshamn office will be a separate development studio under Nygren but he wants to continue doing contract work rather than original IP development.

I'm not expecting any mention of DRM during the press conference, but I hope to God they make it perfectly clear what is their policy afterwards.

Ps. I don't know about you guys, but these damn MS apologists are really getting on my nerves.

Ps. 2. I've got to get rid of this Junior tag, because I don't want to be associated with those damn astroturfers.

If the PS4 will be able to stream PS3 games that would be awesome. But if it won't, I may need to keep my PS3 and start buying some games that I traded in during the gen that I might want to play again, like Infamous Collection, God of War Saga, Uncharted Trilogy, Bayonetta, Vanquish, FFXIII and XIII-2, plus Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection.....man this is tough. E3 needs to come sooner and give me answers!

Do you think they'll even talk price? I'm sure they won't considering the backlash from: "599 US dollars." I mean, unless Pachter is right and both console have a price to be proud of.

Again, have fun explaining that to shareholders. Activision, Ubisoft, Take Two would laugh their ass off as well.

I won't expect price just yet. They have GamesCom and TGS too. I expect them to show the console and show some more features.
