Also, LOL. These rumors popping up are ridiculous. And you all were saying I was being weird for not being hyped at all. No expectations for this conference now except disappointment.

However, PlayGo "is two separate linked systems," Cerny said. The other is to do with the Blu-ray drive -- to help with the fact that it is, essentially, a bit slow for next-gen games.

"So, what we do as the game accesses the Blu-ray disc, is we take any data that was accessed and we put it on the hard drive. And if then if there is idle time, we go ahead and copy the remaining data to the hard drive. And what that means is after an hour or two, the game is on the hard drive, and you have access, you have dramatically quicker loading... And you have the ability to do some truly high-speed streaming."

To further help the Blu-ray along, the system also has a unit to support zlib decompression -- so developers can confidently compress all of their game data and know the system will decode it on the fly. "As a minimum, our vision is that our games are zlib compressed on media," said Cerny.

Seriously, I can't tolerate this shit. I was just want the real news, no bullshit.

And it's a good thing I don't care about the Xbox so I don't have to worry about the DRM crap. Sony might employ some things but I doubt it'll be as bad and since I don't care for EA/Ubisoft/Activision games and Western games in general then I'll probably be fine.

Yep, this is fucking me off a little.

We should probably be focusing on how this whole load of crud is in service of a dying breed of publishers.

The console who's details we're dealing with, is basing quite fundamental decisions on these behemoths of publishing. One cannot argue that used games are damaging these companies enough to justify this.

If they aren't making money on their games, they need to look at doing things another way.

You know, Shuhei, seemingly being "hip" to the happenings of the gaming world, and the social media out reach, if he were to have pulled something like that...well, that's a big dick move that I will forever hold against him.

Again, I will say, I don't believe the publishers have enough leverage to force Sony (or Microsoft for that matter) to do a used game DRM system. The definitely want it, the definitely encourage it, but I still believe the final say rests with Sony (and Microsoft).

Also, have we heard an update from famousmortimer? Last i heard, Sony had reversed their policy of DRM, correct?
 
I'm really hoping that Sony doesn't go the way of MS. I mean, if it's "up the publisher" and it won't be a system-wide thing, then I could just avoid the games that have it.

Is he talking about the full game being on the harddrive or simply basic game data? GT5 gave you the option to install base data before playing or allow the game to install while playing. It'd take awhile either way, but you could absolutely play the game while the game was installing like Cerny said. The full game wasn't on there, but I think it installed around 6-8gigs to help improve loading times.

Sony states that they will not force DRM, that its up to the publishers.

Doesn't this lend to the concept that, when it comes to used games, the to companies may be on the same footing in that its up to the publishers to allow a game to be sold used as well as how they are sold?

I'm hoping this is clarified by Sony at E3, because, as I said, I'm a bit confused.

The big difference is that Sony will have a selection of games that can still be sold and traded as they are today, though some publishers will opt out of this. MS will have no such games, all games must be sold under MS surveillance.

You're right, I honestly never thought about the fact that it may not be all the data. I can't find the quotes but I remember Evolution and Epic both made comments in Edge about HDD speeds and not having to worry about physical media slowing down game data so I think most of the data will be on the HDD.
 
I think we are at the first point in this cycle where depending on what Sony does, we will have two completely different scenarios unfolding.

I traded in Metro: Last Light and seven other games from my collection this gen to get Bioshock: Infinite. So totally worth it.

I feel like we'd have had that anyway. Sony and Microsoft have been continuously growing further apart from each other with every year.
 
The heat is building in the chamber, and part of it already blew up with that speeding DRM thread. Waiting four days is just too agonizing. The tension is so high on this situation. Everyone is so eager to know what Sony's final stance is. It's so frustrating when you realize that the thing you love, the thing everyone on GAF discusses for hours upon hours actually has a legitimate chance to be derailed with a blow so big, that it may not feel the same again. Why is this happening? I mean I know why, but I guess I'm saying, Why does it have to happen? Why does there have to be bad news, ya know? Of course it's all still up in the air for the PS4, but it's not like past years where we didn't really think much of DRM. It is here now, and it is real. It's all just a big shock. Frustration is the best word to describe it though. The NeoGAF documentary and Evilore interviews make it more sad, because of how good ol' Evilore loves GAF and would never trade it for anything, even 5 million dollars. And now, part of NeoGAF feels like it's been shot with a guided missile. I know all this has been said before, but I'd just like to say anything on the mind, an abstract thinking sort of way, just writing whatever comes to mind, like a Diary maybe.

Here's hoping the PS4 fares better, and that the future is bright for gaming.
 
Just was reading the Microsoft official drm reveal thread and man Bish wasnt kidding about the bans. SengetsuSage or whatever the hell his name was one of the fallen. From day one I somehow knew he was up to no good with his viral shit.
 
Have there been any direct reactions from Sony people after this? I've seen one that just simply said "Sad times" and then the other Parappa "You Gotta Believe" tweet, which may or may not have been about DRM.

Bish mentioned he was going to weed out the virals on the forum. There was gong to be a thread but I guess the mods discussed it and decided against it but he did promise he will ban them. He even went on to say he had to contact his outside sources for confirmations.

I don't think anyone has any concrete knowledge if he is legit or not, he talks big claims, with some being very specific that make him easily bannable if things don't pan out like he assures they will. I think since everyone is hoping his promises of Versus being there to be true that it's a kind of wait and see thing.

At the end of the day, Kagari and the other mods know who has been posting as an insider. If they're wrong then the mods will do whatever they see necessary. It's not really up to anyone else to anyone else to do that. Just chill and let them handle things.

I've never known anything about Square Enix and Final Fantasy. How can she hope that I'm correct about Final Fantasy? :D
Also I'm NOT an insider, never claimed to be. I just have a few friends working in the industry and that's it, rarely I get to know something from them but it's really hard and I can't even guarantee if they're right because it's not first hands infos.
Are you sure that you're not taking whatever opinion I post as some kind of secret knowledge that I'm sharing? Because I'm not, I'm just giving my guesses and opinions like everyone else. If I know something I say it clearly: this is what I was told, take it as you wish (like happened in the past for a few PS3 price cuts and new SKUs). But again I'm NOT an insider, so you can safely take my out of your list :P

I think the difference is you can just play a game with a disc on PS4, if a publisher lets you.

With Xbone, every game must be installed and registered online. With PS4, publishers can do that if they want (via a 'game pass'), but it is not mandated. I expect the big 3 (Ubi, EA, Activision) to do this unfortunately.
