A sequel is unlikely to happen without Sakurai. (Then again, prior to E3 2010, who would've guessed Kid Icarus by Sakurai!)

It's simpler to outsource production of an HD port. Follow the blueprint of the original game... Overhaul the art, bump up the geometry, add lots of spicy effects, like new shadows and lighting... Add options for GamePad stylus controls (now southpaw-friendly, thanks to the second stick), as well as Wii Remote and Nunchuk... If that was the bare minimum, it'd still be worth it.

Now it would be accessible to people who were previously deterred by the controls. All of the time and resources expended on marketing the first game (trading cards, anime, bundled-in stand, etc) will pay dividends with the remake, which can benefit from the brand equity established on 3DS.

All at comparatively minimal expense to Nintendo. Hey, it worked for DKCR3D!

we don't really know, the assets could already be in HD. a lot of kid icarus would translate really well into HD with little extra work as it is just because it was already a very modern game when it came out on the 3DS. pretty sure terrain textures would need to be touched up and that might be it.

I legitimately do not want a sequel to Uprising without Sakurai. I dunno if I've ever felt a single person's influence in a game that much. Pretty sure the actual code of the game contains a horcrux. It would also explain why he doesn't age

A full-blown sequel would be great, absolutely, but Sakurai's gonna be busy for a while with Smash...I dunno. I doubt they would go all-out with new HD assets for a port...some moderate improvements to geometry and a few of the character models, some lighting, sure...but it's still the cheaper, more feasible option of the two.

Then again, we'll see soon with WW HD just how far they wanna go with HD ports.

Ohhh, are people wanting it this year? I meant after Smash is out or in the somewhat near future, it's not like there is going to be a shortage of games this holiday.
