Redditor claims MS employees monitoring Reddit; making positive posts about the Xbox1

Considering the fact that you can't be a fan of anything Microsoft-related without being accused of being on the company's payroll, I'll just assume that this is somewhat overblown. I won't pretend that this absolutely isn't going on, but I'm not cynical enough to think that anyone who has something positive to say about Xbox One is being paid to say it, especially since my own personal opinion of the platform based on what I've heard is still mostly positive.

The creepy mouth makes it hilarious.

Some of them are just as pissed as we are, no?

Some are yeah, but it would highly unprofessional to boo a conference as a journalist. Also I'd still guess the majority of them are probably in 'entitled gamers blah blah' mode.

Let's check IP addreses, be suspicious of everyone, trust no one, I believe an internal witch hunt should be in place, a purge.

Those found suspicious should be brought to a thread with a poll in it, we all get to vote and decide his/her fate, ala beautifulpeople.com

Microsoft has at least dozens of buildings in the Redmond area alone. Skype and Windows Phone are not even in the same area. Windows Phone division alone has several buildings. So the post quoted in the OP sounds like BS to me.

Microsoft has a pretty strict policy against Astro Turfing for employees.
I feel I may have just had an interaction with one of these folks.

Would any of you guys be able to analyze this back and forth, and see if you agree?

Hmm

Yeah, just let the employees of the company cheer or have them pipe in cheering sounds from the speakers. How is that professional on the part of the company?

It's not. What you're asking for is a screaming match between journalists and paid shills. That's stupid.

What's the point? They're not going to change people's opinios just by trying to limit the amount of negative press.

Look at the earlier thread calling to not support anti used, always online and drm.
It was absolutely flooded with shills (there was like 6 bannings in it within 15 pages last time I checked)
That topic got completely derailed.

If they can distract people here and there or help people rationalise it thinking opinions are divided then they probably think they are getting somewhere.

I just want to say to any shill reading this:
My friend, why do you do a job like this.
I mean, think of ANY possible occupation and it'll in some way or another be productive to society or make some other person's life easier or enable someone else to do their job well or indulge someone's needs or instincts, no matter how base.
Be it a simple janitor cleaning toilets, a prostitute providing for the sexual needs of some lonely man, a burger flipper making sure fat Americans can scarf down their bic macs or even a 'psychic' giving stupid people false hope to cling to.

Their jobs have some meaning to someone out there , no matter how vile the concept is.

But what you do has to be the least productive thing on this planet, you don't create anything, you don't fill a niche, you don't serve a need, you don't do menial required maintenance, you don't even enable other people to do their job better.

You guys have hit rock bottom on the scale of usefullness and meaningfullnes in society.
Trying to obfuscate information, distract people from analyzing things or having meaningful discussion, and as the cherry on top you do it in one of the most meaningless industries there are, to a small number of people on a public forum.
I tried but I couldn't imagine a more empty and meaningless way to spend your waking hours.

I can't imagine what gets you out of bed in the morning, this isn't even some snarky passive agressive thing, I really honestly can't.
I know there are a lot of people willing to do jobs with no integrity, but this seems in its own league, as far as legal things go at least.

Yes. His posts praising Halo 4 were absolutely unbelievable. Shit like how it's the most incredible amazing emotional story of all time that beautifully captures the blah blah blah drivel.

I see.

Well this E3 is surely going to bring out awe inspiring mental gymnastics and many more bans.

The issue is not that someone doesn't have positive experiences with the Xbox 360 or other MS products. The issue is that the defensiveness of certain individuals of what Microsoft is trying to accomplish are coming from far afield. There are no benefits to the consumer that could not be accomplished outside of what Microsoft is trying to do.

I hope bish comes through and exposes the shills he was referring to. The unique thing about GAF is that the general discussion, opinion and perspective has its own direction and driver. Neither the admins not the mods shape them, why should anybody else?

DAT ETHER! ice cold man, at least we're wasting our valuable hours of life on something we care about.

It's slimy but I imagine Sony has people doing the same thing. Just part of the world we live in.

It would seem like Neogaf is a harder place to do this though just due to the restrictions on getting in.

They go this far ??

The critics really got to them.

Honestly, my mind is blown !!!! I thought it was all just conspiracy theories.

We heard that Xbone is apparently one of the most pre ordered products on amazon. Could it be that they pre ordered the consoles themselves so that people think "Oh wow, this product is trending. It must be cool as shit, everyones buying it. I NEED ONE!".

Something else to consider...

Edit: Can't get my image to work. Anyway, go to the article here http://kotaku.com/video-game-compan...m_source=Kotaku_Twitter&utm_medium=Socialflow and check out the discussion on the right. Luke Plunkett is the guy who wrote the article for Kotaku.

Sorry about that. Having trouble with the image. Anyway, here are the comments I was referring to...

MogCakes
Over on NeoGAF today there were a bunch of bannings of corporate shills. Given their post histories and the way they defended these practices, I'm inclined to believe they're more prevalent in comments and discussion sections than most people think. I can think of a few on Kotaku, for example. Today 3:14am

OnoSendai77
I've wondered about that. Surely all the apologists here can't be simply naive and clueless, can they? Today 3:21am

Luke Plunkett
You'll find the plants are a lot more subtle than most of the apologists, who are just crazy fanboys. Today 3:22am

Michael Jackson and his label did this for some of his last albums.

That's the most annoying thing about the whole approach - the paranoia and suspicion that results.

Collateral damage of corporations using disingenuous methods.

It's why the practice shouldn't be defended or ignored IMHO - does too much damage to online communities.

EDIT : That'll teach me to be sympathetic! Shit's getting freaky now.

Banned. Another shill down? Looks like it. GET SNIPED.

I'm laughin' so much, and I'll laugh even more when this crap hit the shelves and sells nothing... xD

And this is coming from a Xbox fanboy for 9 years.

Thank god for Bish.

The blatant shilling that was going on yesterday in that MS thread was disgusting. Thankful it's a graveyard of greyed out names. These shills aren't even hiding their agenda anymore, which is good since it will make identifying them and banning them easier.

edit: And another shill one got taken out in this thread.

I could swear I've read the "people are just afraid of change" line several times in the last couple of days.
I've read it several times in the past several months. It's a favorite of MS astroturfers -- they loved using it during the Windows 8 launch period & aftermath too.

I could swear I've read the "people are just afraid of change" line several times in the last couple of days.

I'm sure they have guidelines and strategies to focus on and a variety of flowcharts for how to respond to/obfuscate/counter opinions.
Like a helpdesk worker.

Come on guys, you're being unreasonable. Microsoft © is just trying to provide gamers with a truly next gen experience. The Xbox One Ultimate all-in-one home entertainment system will be revolutionary in providing an always online experience that will fundamentally change the ways people perceive video games. It's okay to be scared, do you think Microsoft wasn't scared when releasing the award winning Halo Combat Evolved series which by the way is getting a TV show by the legendary Steven Spielberg? Microsoft has always been the front runner when it comes to caring about gamers and as someone with no affiliation to Micrososft I feel proud to give them my money. So lets show our stripes! Toss away your Playstations and Nintendos! Embrace next gen! BE PROUD, BE GREEN, JUMP IN!

Boom! one shill less, one of the shills must be a double agent and is giving the mods all the names!

Regardless of whether this is true or not, and honestly I wouldnt be surprised if it is, I hope this doesn't devolve into a witch hunt on various forums. The constant throwing around of accusations would impede on sound debate :(
