How come?

I want to know, even when PS4 isn't supported anymore and it's like 10-15 years after the fact, my games (assuming I took care of them + the console~) still work fine and I can trade off with people and still buy copies at antique game stores much like I do with sega saturn and snes games.

Shit this thread is moving fast.

For me I just can't wait to see what the PS4 looks like almost as much as the games!

I reckon that teaser montage has thrown people right off with what the actual design is.

AW COME ON!!

Rockstar you cheapskates.

The advantage to going after Microsoft is that they can adapt to what Microsoft does to a point.
If Microsoft does, they can.
Though then it becomes a game because if Sony blinks first, Microsoft will react with their price at Gamecom or whatever the next event is.
So indeed it is a matter of who blinks first.
But I do expect a release date because retailers need it, as do devs.

As far as pricing goes though, it must be set in stone for both companies. They most likely had a budget from the very beginning with a price in mind. In an interview I remember I think I may have yoshida, talking about how they always ha a price in mind for the Vita. This was before the price was announced.

Odd question, but does Sony stream conferences using Ustream or flash? I only ask because my only ways to watch Sony's (and Ubisoft's) conferences don't have flash support. (and spike isn't showing those specific conferences.)

i believe they have a Ustream account so i will assume that it will be there.

Yes, but what kind of DRM is that? Sounds like just how it is now lol.

Well, I guess the difference is just that because games will probably need to be installed it would just be using it as verification. Other than that, its not really any different.

They already said that PS4 didnt need to ever go online...

Shuhei Yoshida: You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected. The system has the low-power mode - I don't know the official term - that the main system is shut down but the subsystem is awake. Downloading or updating or you can wake it up using either the tablet, smartphone or PS Vita.

Eurogamer: Are all of those things optional? For people who have broadband data limits, for example? They can customise everything?

Shuhei Yoshida: Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally. Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don't want to connect to anyone else, you can do that.

Eurogamer: One of the questions my readers really want an answer to is whether you're going to block the use of second-hand or 'used' games, because it's a huge concern for them.

Shuhei Yoshida: Do you want us to do that?

Eurogamer: No. I think if you buy something on a disc you have a kind of moral contract with the person you've bought it from that you retain some of that value and you can pass it on. Do you agree?

Shuhei Yoshida: Yes. That's the general expectation by consumers. They purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that's my expectation.

256gb SSD would make more sense i would guess. I hope so. I take that over a 1tb regular one.

I want technology.

Also, Gaikai should play a huge part tomorrow. They didn't just paid 380 millions for nothing. Has to be one of the pillars of the show.

I didn't really care for Destiny until I watched that 11 minute IGN video from yesterday. I'm still not HYPED but my interest is piqued. If they can get close to the art especially the art shown in the last couple mins, I'm in. I'm skeptical that they can match their art in-game, or come close to it. Few do.

I can't believe this, but I just realised that the PlayStation logo is a "P" and an "S" criss-crossing each other...

I feel like an idiot...

It's funny that the President of SCE Worldwide Studios and the systems LEAD Architect have made these same statements and people still expect the exact same DRM scheme as MS.

I'm hoping that it has a similar size to the PS3 Slim, although that might not be likely since this is its first iteration. Maybe down the line with hardware revisions (hopefully it can get even smaller).

While SSDs have gotten affordable, they are certainly too expensive to consider for standard console SKUs. But I hope the PS4 will allow us to switch hard drives like the PS3 does - in that case, I plan on buying a ~480 GB SSD for my system!

SSD is fast, but SSD can get killed in the blink of an eye much easier than a traditional hdd.
I would not suggest it for a console at this point in the game.

Would be amazing if they had two PS4s and then played a game on one, took out the disc and inserted it into the 2nd PS4 to make a point on how used games work like normal.

That Mark Cerny interview is very interesting. Cerny is amazing, such an intelligent individual and an asset to the industry.

Are SSDs not pretty expensive? Doubt they could hold it around $400 if they put such a thing in it. What interests me too is the size. Xbox One requires every game to be installed and has a 500GB HDD.

That's pretty small imo. I think this thing will be pretty massive, lol.

Just curious but what are your 'ways to watch the conference'?

Officially there are these:

Unofficially, I think GameTrailers has a stream.

Oh don't worry, we're not even close to the end of hearing that yet. Hopefully they say something on stage so we can finally put this thing to rest.

Hard drives are much more sensitive than SSDs - and traditional disk drives also potentially require more space: But current prices mean we won't see any SSDs as standard for the next few years.

Hopefully we can replace the default HDD with an SSD.

Hmmm yeah I think you're right. Def not as big as original PS3.

One thing I reckon will be different is that the design will be more 'western' this time and less exotic Japanese. For better or worse.

Why? With cloud saves there would be nothing on the HDD that I couldn't afford to lose.

If it ends up being the same as Microsoft's, and it does need to make an internet connection, even once, then I'll end up being more pissed at Sony. I hate being straight out lied to.

Think happy thought, think happy thoughts...

Honestly, the thing is dead. It would be throwing good dollars after bad. Sony should just let it die peacefully and unnoticed like they did for the PSP Go.

Too bad, it's a great piece of hardware, just one that the gamers don't want.

it is not possible to make it like MS's without internet connection.

Hopefully we can replace the default HDD with an SSD.

That's what I plan on doing, if they allow us (no special sectors etc. like the 360 uses) - even if it means opening up the console, but I'm holding out hope for an easily user-replaceable hard drive like the PS3 allows for.

Why is this staring on Monday instead of the weekend anyway? Less people would be working Saturday to see all the news.

Just a single day to go. Can't wait, this epic moment, once in a generation :D
I want my Last Guardian and Versus. Don't disappoint me Sony.
