My price prediction. Two models.

$349 - 500GB

$449 - 1TB with Camera

That's a hard decision, but I think I'd end up getting the cheaper one on this. I think the camera will be included on all SKU either way, hopefully just one SKU at that. I hope we find out the Xbone price tomorrow too, so we can compare and discuss outlooks of sales and stuff.

Full context of those tweets.

Man of Sony

Amazing! Great job. Although the Cerny baby seems to suffer of anencephaly (don't look it up, don't say I didn't warn you).

Didn't the GG Killzone video documentation mention that it was 1GB for the OS and 7GB for the game.

Let me bold this before people start going around saying Sony will use 3GB of RAM for the OS without sources.

I have a nervous feeling in my stomach...

I do as well. Just know that it, along with everything else, simply wont live up to the hype. Nonetheless, I believe Sony knows what they're doing.

And is this whole 3GB dedicated to the OS real? That's fucking ridiculous if so, especially if it's DDR5.

EDIT: Looks like that's untrue. Good.

The memory partition of the PS4 seems to align with that of the One : 5 GB for gaming and 3 for OS related tasks...
A couple of tweets by Jonathan Blow strongly suggest that. Let's hope they free up some more of those resources in the near futur. :)

The PS4 has been pegged already at one for the OS and 7 for developers, other devs have already commented on it.
The reason Killzone used less was because Sony raised the memory in the spec.

I still can't wrap my head around the extremely super ultra hyper mega textures one can achieve with that much ram.

I thought the Killzone guys said that when they thought they had 4GB of RAM and they stated that they were using 3 and the OS was using 1. Maybe Sony added the RAM partially to suit their OS needs?

Wasn't aware of that. Don't know how to access the whole thing, as I just found those remarks on B3D...

NOPE! He says "we won't quite fit on the PS4". He's definitely talking about Sony's plateform.
can't post the tweets because I'm on my phone but he was talkimg that he didn't understand why MS didn't put more RAM into the X1 since DDR3 is very cheap.

The OS would always be running, though. It'll always be capturing your gameplay and keeping you connected to your friends list and whatnot.

I remember Cerny saying that they were using 8GB GDDR5 and that it would be a no-limits type solution for developers, but I don't remember him saying that developers would actually get to use 8 GB of memory.
..and I've watched the 2/20 reveal three times, haha.

The Vita OS shrinks right down when you are playing a game, and then expands when you go back to the OS. I expect he same on the PS4.

There was no official word on it, if I remember.
Some of the gaffers' replies to my post made some sense, but the tweet from Jonathan about his game not fitting in the PS4 memory and the requirement to rely on streaming still lingers...

CEO Kaz Hirai ‏@KazHiraiCEO

Microsoft claim to have 20 games at their E3 press event but they may have a lot less. As the name XBOX ONE shows, Microsoft can’t count

That 299 price, if it happens xbone will sell really well I think

If the XBOX One is cheaper than the PS4, my hopes of convincing more casual friends to jump ship to Sony are shattered. They're already playing the "XBO Defense Force" role pretty strongly, but if it's cheaper that's game over for me and I'll have very few "in-person" friends to game on PS4 with.

Except that was never said in the video doc, or in any direct quote from any developer working with the PS4. The only source for the 7GB/1GB split was rumor from a site called "PS4Daily" that claimed to have spoken to an unnamed developer from an unnamed studio.

So pessimistic. If this year and next years E3 don't deliver, forget about the rest of them. It's a once in a generation E3, you'll enjoy it. There's a bunch of games, some surprises, and you're being shown a new platform. Unless your expectations are ridiculous, you'll probably love it.

I'm worried about DRM policies. If Sony does it, I mean if it's something gross like MS, I'm out of the game.

I kinda like gaming quite a lot, and would like to continue... but I won't support that shit. And since I find PC gaming to be too troublesome, I'll likely not buy games at all anymore, after I get through my current backlog. It'll be all she wrote.

So yeah... very nervous.

Are you even reading his tweets properly? What the heck.

His tweets if read in that manner would indicate as such, however if you read all of his tweets he was talking about Xbox one and how the witness on ps4 is already at five gigs. Ps4 has more than 5 gigs available for games.

I think I need to go through my Twitter and clear out a shit ton of gaming people. I follow way too many news outlets.

Suggestions?

Yea at the end of the day I feel like MS are better at the whole marketing/business side of things than Sony. They knew if their price is low they get the market as the dudebros will jump in everything forgiven.

Sony added 4 more GB of RAM for games, not for the OS. It would mean that out of the new 4 GB, only one is for games. I really don't think they'd make that mistake.

Going to bed before too long, so I will say a prayer for E3 to bring us gigatons and for the salvation of Sony.

If that fails, The Serenity Prayer it is :P

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
Grant me the strength to change the things I can
And grant me the wisdom to tell the difference

How was the day at the beach :P ?

Anyway, the start of a console is always great.
The good thing about it, we're already pretty long into the generation and the general transformation isn't as big as PSX>PS2 or PS2>PS3.
Therefore alot of games should be already quite far, so the next 2 years should be awesome.

I just don't know how they are going to keep the cost of 8GB of GDDR5 down to prevent the box from soaring above $399.

They could potentially forecast a drop in the RAM's price 12-18 months down the line and take their lumps early (by selling at or just below cost). From a business perspective, they'd have to stick at their launch price longer than they would if they priced a little higher for initial profits, but it would allow them to come out of the gate with a more accessible price for the masses.

Don't crucify me, English happens to be my fourth language, so I'm already sweating trying to make sense of most messages on this board. lol!

Oh! My bad!

Though it might seem hard to believe this at time, Sony isn't stupid. They saw the negative reaction to MS's presser, the official wording of XBO's DRM policies, and clearly heard the outcries over the #PS4NoDRM campaign. They are most certainly listening, and they would be putting a bullet right into their foot if they were to put a DRM policy on PS4 similar to that of XBO's.

Do I think there will be DRM in some form on the PS4? ...yes, but I think it will be done in a way that is not nearly as bad as what Microsoft is doing. Sony has a lot of good will saved up in the bank, and I'm sure they don't want to blow it all with a bad DRM strategy.

Agreed. I think 2 GB at most (probably 1 GB). And likely as DBT85 said, even that will probably be dynamic somehow like on the Vita.

Welcome back. I think this year's E3 is probably the most hype-heavy in recent years. Seriously can't wait until tomorrow..

I'm not saying it wont be awesome; it will be. But the hype levels have never been this high for E3 and it simply wont deliver like we all hope it does every single year.

But it'll still be damn good. I'm no pessimist.

but then is MS stupid? they've heard the outrage since they debuted xbone and they continue on with it without change

Maybe they're not quite getting the most out of the PS4 yet?, i remember several developers claiming to have "maxed out" a console even in their early years, only to have someone else come along later on and state the same thing again... and again...

Kojima comes to mind.
