If there's one thing being overlooked, its how Microsoft hasn't said a peep about being a Gold member is better or different than being a Silver member. I fully expect really drastic differences between the two.

Yup, by far my biggest concern atm because when/if I buy an XBO, I refuse to go gold unless it offers some seriously valuable service(s) I can't get elsewhere (unless it ends up easy to get for free again). If going gold also eases DRM concerns, that might be my last straw for boycotting the system entirely out of principle... as it stands now, I'd probably get one for exclusives eventually.

Is that you, Forceatowulf? Come closer to the camera so I can check.

I'm all for piling on Microsoft when it's deserved, but it's clear you didn't read the article you linked to. As it mentions, all companies, Microsoft, Apple, Sony, Google ect, only hand over private information when a warrant is provided.

As it's not an exclusive, it won't require kinect to play.

I read the article, but CHOSE not to mention the other parties.
They are not relevant to this thread. NO Off-topic 4 u.

It's called freedom of choice, something I find invaluable.

It's clear your assumptions hold no water.

I understand the expectation that Sony will just announce the exact same thing tomorrow, maybe 15% less draconian, but if they DON'T... and the drm is the same as the Ps3... there will be a flood of applause and crying gifs unlike any the internet has ever witnessed.

Sony wins next gen if thats the case lol. At least amongst the core.

When I stand back now, and look at what has become of the whole Xbox one announcement, compared to what we were expecting...

I just can't believe it. It's really astonishing. Again, #clusterfuktotal.

The biggest surprise coming from all of this is that Activision isn't spearheading the DRM/no used game debacle.
If you've been paying attention, that should be the least big surprise.

Surprisingly, one of the examples [Kotick] gave was ... used game sales? "We're not doing anything to suppress used games today," he told me, referring to the various new-game incentives typified by EA's "Project $10" and "Online Pass" programs.

"What we've tried to do is to really support our audiences and, you know, when you talk to players, they like the idea of having a currency. They like the idea of being able to take a game they no longer want to play and use it to get a credit to buy new games." We can't argue with that, and doubt EA would either, but it's a simple matter of economics: Retailers are cutting the game companies out of that second-hand sale. "We can do some of these things that EA and others have done," Kotick said. "We actually don't think its in the best interest of the gamer, and so we've chosen not to."

Diablo 3 was a clusterfuck but I think there were circumstances around that specific game that caused that and I think they learned their lesson (hopefully). Other than that game DRM on Activision titles has been unobtrusive.

Every dribble of shit from Microsoft's wretched arsehole just makes it much easier to avoid their console despite any number of games they might want to throw at us.

Could someone tell me wtf is going on in this thread, because I can't make heads or tails out of the OP. This is a running gag, I presume.

He doesn't have the deepest of post histories so it won't take long to find out for yourself if he's reliable.

Read his stuff for an indication of his track record. He obfuscates behind a persona for personal/professional safety, but he's definitely on the level.

If I was a betting man, I did say no more silver or any free tier for Xbox One.

Look what's happening to office.

Devices and services is a company wide push.

Here is the main reason I don't think Sony will announce something similar.

I don't think they could have come up with something similar. Not because they're less evil or controlling, but because I just don't think they have the experience in setting up DRM of that level. MS is used to it their various product lines, plus they already had some fairly sophisticated stuff with license transfers for XBLA/etc. I just don't think Sony has it in them.

Yes... I know... rootkits. Different division, long time ago, different DNA.

It is conceivable they may provide some hardware DRM craziness... not sure. But as for this overbearing Big Brother online prison -- I just don't see it.

Holy crap, if half of this stuff turns out to be true...

Well, at least we'll get a new Prince of Persia game! I really liked Forgotten Sands.

Also, CBOAT is becoming my new favorite poster.

I think what CBOAT maybe referring to with the 'worse drm' is that in the terms of service Microsoft will include a clause that allows them to permanently remove access to games for whatever reason as at that point they are just digital licenses. Which could render even retail purchases useless.

Rumored 24 hour DNA check?

I actually think the "gets worse" part has to do with the 24 hour check. They'll have most games, single player or not, be "better with the cloud" and those will be always-online, not just "online-every-24-hours". At least that's my guess.

Bobby with the reverse heel turn and announces an EA-esque "unprecedented" partnership with Sony of no DRM for Acti/Sony 1st party games on PS4.

It is probably something like that as he said DRM TOS (Terms of service)

Yep.

Free tier for Xbox one will be useless anyways.

I thought he'd mention that specifically if it was a thing.

As someone who has been a gamer for more than 20 years, this is the first time I've ever actually wanted to see a console fail.

It really has nothing to do with console wars. It has everything to do with this industry fucking us over, by having MS start a precedent that has absolutely no benefit to any consumers.

Congratulations Microsoft. Now that I know it really was you who started with all this DRM BS, I hope you become the laughing stock of the industry for many years to come. You have reached a point with me where I really don't care what you announce tomorrow, because no exclusive game or price point will get me to want to purchase your "gaming" console. I most definitely will NOT support your BS.

Especially considering most "exclusive" (aka timed) third party games will most likely go to PC/PS4* anyway. I can wait until they release for other systems.

*Granted if Sony is going to do the same DRM BS with the PS4, I won't be supporting them either.

"3. Cloud power was designed as DRM. Period. DRM was Microsoft's idea. EA and Ubisoft are supporters, Activision slightly less so.

4. DRM plans are actually worse than what they've stated."

*sigh*

My dream Sony conf for tomorrow:

Kaz goes on stage, no sizzle reel of games, big screens showing a pitch black, an almost empty stage.

"PS4.This holiday. No DRM". Drops the mic and gets out of the stage and a collection of neogaf Kaz gif shows for 2 hours.

The most infuriating fact (if true), is that MS designed this and went to the publishers. And not the other way around.

On the positive side, it gives me some hope now that Sony won't do this, since it is not publisher enforced. Gets them more bargaining power.

Day one xbox one average consumers will be screwed though once they encounter all these retarded policies.

I'd say this is definitely happening. No feature list or breakdown between silver or gold users, not mentioning if gold is required to play online games. Only thing that was said was existing gold memberships will carry over.
