My dream Sony conf for tomorrow:

Kaz goes on stage, no sizzle reel of games, big screens showing a pitch black, an almost empty stage.

"PS4.This holiday. No DRM". Drops the mic and gets out of the stage and a collection of neogaf Kaz gif shows for 2 hours.

Add "preorders open now." They just won with that.

Dear lord this is awesome! There ain't no drama like video game drama. Mirror's Edge 2 is exciting and please Sony leak your DRM plans, the wait is excruciating (-ly delicious!) E3!

I dont think that means that at all really.
Right, that's why I am saying I would love it if it did mean that. It definitely doesn't hurt that there was that rumor about Capcom's DR3 being exclusive to XBone and Capcom's DD(2) being exclusive to PS4. So if one part of that is confirmed it lends more credence to the other part being true as well. I hope so at least.

World of Tanks on console makes a massive amount of sense considering the changes to it that have already been announced (essentially dropping pay to win, removing randomness to make it more accessible for casual players and esports).

The biggest surprise coming from all of this is that Activision isn't spearheading the DRM/no used game debacle.

It really doesn't surprise me.

Activision has never pushed for DRM for their console games and is seemingly ok with used game.

Most of the blame in this situation should be on Microsoft, followed by EA/UBI.

I understand the expectation that Sony will just announce the exact same thing tomorrow, maybe 15% less draconian, but if they DON'T... and the drm is the same as the Ps3... there will be a flood of applause and crying gifs unlike any the internet has ever witnessed.

The whole internet will just be a huge picture of Kaz

It's interesting that Activision isn't as supportive. They probably have statistics showing that a lot of people trade in their games to buy call of duty or something.

I'd say this is definitely happening. No feature list or breakdown between silver or gold users, not mentioning if gold is required to play online games. Only thing that was said was existing gold memberships will carry over.

I am a silver member, but on my Xbox Home tab right now is a big banner with the Xbox One with the message "Buy 3 months, get 3 months free".

Before the announcement I would typically get offers for deals on 12 month memberships. It is a little weird.

Also a bit annoying when you consider how much they nag Silver members to upgrade to gold. (But thats a whole different topic.)

And to see next gen games, isn't that the whole reason to watch E3 in the first place?

Well the games will have trailers and cut down walkthroughs afterwards.

Sony wins next gen if thats the case lol. At least amongst the core.

Extreme flood of positive reporting from multiple media sources, hype, positive word of mouth and huge push from retailers having a stake in one console selling substantially more than the one that cuts their balls off can be a powerful force. Just like bad word of mouth can hurt console sales.

IF, and thats a big IF, Sony is smart any DRM plans they did have are in the process of being nixed right now as we speak and should be announced at some point shortly. Again, thats if they were smart.

I don't know CBoat's history, but I'm assuming he deals heavily on the Microsoft side of things? All of his rumors seem Microsoft centric.

I think the most telling thing of all this info is the fact MS approached game publishers, not the other way around. I would be upset, but this tells me that these DRM plans are Microsoft's, and Microsoft's alone, and that lessens the chance that Sony adopts it as well.

Again, both Sony and MS do this all the time. Ever seen 3rd party TV commercials?

Yes we've seen this type of business practice before so why emphasize on what we already know? I'm assuming MS is taking this a step further.... what that mean I'm not entirely sure.

Im so happy Mirrors Edge 2 is happening and so confused as to how the DRM will be worse

This puts EA's E3 line-up at:

-Titanfall
-Mirror's Edge 2
-Dragon Age 3
-Battlefield 4
-Plants vs. Zombies 2
-Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare
-Need For Speed: Rivals
-Command & Conquer
-Star Wars Plans
-The Sims 4
-Madden
-FIFA
-UFC
-NBA

This is probably better than anything they've had in quite some time.

DRM can be worse:

- Even discs are useless six months after release. Once they say it's not a game, it's not a game.
- A limit on the amount you can trade, resell or pass on games. Say, three a year.
- If your account is banned from Live, your games are deleted.

MS's presser is going to be something special.
It's going to be showcasing a ton of exclusive* games, along with gaming-relevant OS features, including the revamped Xbox Live and sharing/social functionality.

They won't touch the controversial stuff. Not on stage.

It's interesting that Activision isn't as supportive. They probably have statistics showing that a lot of people trade in their games to buy call of duty or something.

I figure it's just because 90% of their revenue comes from two multiplayer-focused franchises which are not heavily traded in.

Noticed that too. Just made me realize that they might be giving people three free months because the membership would extend pass the Xbox One launch.

I've also heard multiple times in the last few days that the microsoft DRM news is going to get worse.

I honestly can't even imagine how it could...? Are the discs going to fucking explode?
