2013 Microsoft E3 Conference

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
Conference was okay. I feel like they did the bare minimum to not be in disaster mode (although I'm sure some people think its disaster mode no matter what MS showed), but that price is gross. I don't know how they're justifying a $500 shooter box when they're going to make that $100 difference between "I'm okay with this" and "wait for a price drop" back on licensing fees based on the no used games policy.

Awesome conference. Games, games, games, just like they said. I doubted it, but they pulled it off.

I fear Sony won't be able to match this.

Games games games. That was the best part, but that price, and that awkward moment made me feel bad for that DICE guy.

The best things to me were multiplats, aside from a few really cool exclusives. A lot of what I saw looked awfully generic, and uninspired. Anyway it definitely wasn't a bad press conference.

The only good thing they showed was MGS5. They get props for truly sticking with games, though. Regarding the price, it's what I expected. I expect the PS4 to be priced the same.

a looooot of games.

unfortunately only 3 im interested in:

Titan fall
Dead rising 3
Forza 5

so a 5 from me and not buying the console at 499. Going Ps4 this generation untill a price drop for the xbox one.

Tons of games, none that justified the existence of Xbone or any of its features. Most games looked like they could be run on the 360, and they were very much in the same vein of all the shit we've already played a bunch of times.

Titanfall looked great, but nowhere near good enough to convince me to spend $500 for DRM bullshit.

It's still Sony's E3 to lose

This was pretty weak. Ryse made me laugh out loud, if it's at all what it appears to be in those clips, it's a living joke. A parody of dumb games, living and breathing.

KI looks okay.

Forze asynchronous multiplayer was unveiled in a rather hypey, dishonest way, but the core idea is pretty good. Like Dragon's Dogma but racing.

Dead Rising 3 looks great, and I was saddened to hear them claim exclusivity for it for Xbone. For me, DR3 is the one casualty so far. The one game I care about that MS has successfully poached away.

I can live with a casualty. Especially at $499. I'll never buy this system. Never.

If someone wasn't convinced to buy an Xbox One before this conference, I don't see how this would change their mind. Quite a few of the games are multiplatform, and the exclusives they showed were pretty much just... whatever. I was very disappointed with what happened to DR3, Ryse was riddled with QTEs, no gameplay was shown for Quantum Break, and a lot of games were suffering from framerate problems. The only interesting game I saw was Project Spark, but now we need the Smartglass as well?

They also didn't even try to address any of the bad news surrounding the Xbox One.

And that price... $499? Seriously?

I'm not any more compelled to buy an Xbox One, and with all the bad things surrounding it I probably won't ever get one. They lost me.

I give the conference overall a 6/10. Decent, but not enough to really change anyone's minds on anything, unfortunately.

LOL why was Master Chief wearing a cape. HE'S ON A FUCKING COMBAT ARMOR

That was the first thing I thought if too... So ridiculous!

Also the poor NeoGaf servers... "NeoGaf is down for scheduled maintenance" Was the message I received for over 70% of the conference for me.

Disclosure: I was already resolved to not buy a XBone due to the whole DRM brouhaha. I went into this conference hoping to be tempted.

I wasn't.

It was an Okay conference IMHO. Good amount of games.

However, many of the games seemed samey, uninspired and/or not different to currentgen stuff (if one looks beyond a few more polygons and shaders, which is admittedly kinda unfair).

Plus damn, did it have to be so many shooters? But oh well, they're the prominent genre nowadays, so I can't really complain just because my tastes lie elsewhere.

For me, personally, there was only little of interest, and none of it is exclusive to the XBone if I understand things correctly. No wait, I wanna play the mute Dragon game, but not enough to justify a purchase.

I'm not even gonna expand on how ridiculous the pricepoint is to me, especially given the whole always on etc crap. This thing appears to be my personal anti-console.

Nintendo and Sony better rock our worlds now, or I'll be hella depressed by this E3.

GAF wasn't working when the show started, so I took notes. Here's what I scribbled:

MGSV - I don't like MGS or stealth games in general. Looks OK, I guess. Stealth on a horse? LOL like they wouldn't notice the horse.

Ryse - Embodiment of everything that sucks with modern games. QTE fest. All style, no substance. Fuck this game.

KIller Instinct - Don't like KI or fighting games really. Don't care.

Sunset overdrive (Insomniac) - Like the art style. Open world shooter? Would rather see gameplay.

Forza 5 - Silly real car on stage. "Cloud." Actual (?) gameplay. Cloud = AI behavior saved from other players. kind of neat. "In-game" trailer doesn't look like the gameplay footage.

Indies coming up.

Minecraft again? OK. It's still minecraft. Still have it on PC.

Quantum Break - So much for indies. First "Television" dropped. "Real-time" footage, but no gameplay. Show me a game, please.

Swery! D4. Neat trailer. Looks like a 360 game.

Project Spark - Weird voice command stuff. Looks like 3 options. wouldn't a controller be easier? Bad Puns on stage. WTF is this thing? Don't care for games based on community creation.

Smartglass - Still don't give a shit.

KI - Actual Gameplay? Looks shitty. Upload Studio stuff looks fine, just like PS4 share button stuff. Twitch direct feeds? Kind of cool I guess.

No More Microsoft Points - Cool

Xbox live gold sharing - cool.

Crimson Dragon. Xbone game now? No audio? LOL. Looks OK. same as it always looked. Still a Kinect game?

Capcom Vancouver - Dead Rising 3. Nick Ramos (Frank T_T) No HUD? Open World w/ no load times is nice. Dark and Gritty. Where's the fun DR vibe? Move + Shoot? (slowly?) "Zombies are still a threat." Smartglass to call in artillery? Why can't I just do that through the game UI? Fuck you. Exclusive or "Exclusive?"

CD Projekt - Witcher 3 on Xbone. Not exclusive? Kinect voice. Looks like a Witcher game alright.

EA/DICE - Engine Blahblah. Battlefield 4. Don't give a fuck. Trailer. No sound. Booing LOL. Heckling. Owned. Oh, it's playing now. Boats, Army mans. You shoot men in this game. Still don't give a fuck. Shitty physics, boring scripted stuff. Why do they bother with single player in these games? This looks bad. Exclusive maps - Who cares?

Phil Spencer - Man of 900 shirts.

Roguelike? What lies below. Looks OK. Sword and Sworcery dudes.

5 New Studios.

Black Tusk - Another cutscene. No gameplay. Whatever the fuck that was. OK. Guessing yet another shooter.

Enter Sand Man. Another Cutscene. Looks like CG. Halo? Yep, there's the Chief. OK. Show me the game.

Halo tablet game. Halo TV. blahblah.

Oh, are they going to show Halo for real? Cloud. 60FPS. 2014. No actual game. Fuck you.

November. 500 bones.

THIS. SHOW. FUCKING. SUCKED. HARD.

Oh, there's more.

Respawn. Titanfall. Jetpacks. mechs. Not gameplay.

Guess I don't have to spend 500 bucks this year.

Oh, here's Titanfall gameplay.

Call of Halo. Ironsights. Same old shit. Guess all their freedom didn't come with any new ideas.

Yellow goo on HUD? is this Haze?

Game looks aggressively mediocre. I've seen everything in this game 900 times already.

Best titles were mostly multiplatforms.
No DRM explanations.
500 dollars.
Europe is fucked.

Yep, screw the XBone

At least people crying about rape jokes will make for a funny shitstorm

Was OK until the $499 price point. Sucked the air out of the room. It even got boos from the audience which was funny.

Sony can really knock it out of the park with a 350-400 price point.

Fantastic conference, I really enjoyed watching all the new games I'll be playing on my PC and PS4.

60fps revolution was unexpected, but incredibly uplifting. Halo, CoD, and BF all being 60fps will hopefully set the standard that other devs will be forced to match.

It certainly exceeded my expectations, but that doesn't say much.

They showed games! Some were nice, some boring shooters. Highlights were the multiplats, Wicher 3 and MGSV look great. Sunset Overdrive looks great, I love the more stylized art style. Hope it doesn't become Fuse 2.

But the price, that was a skewer. 499 USD buuurns.

They showed games, just not the right games. The best games they put out there are, gasp, multiplats or available on the PC.

yeah no, that wasn't convincing at all. the DRM and kinect issue still kills it as does the price. the good games will also be available for PS4.

This.

Good grief at the price, though. More expensive in the UK than PS3 was.

IMO a pretty weak presentation. Only Titanfall of interest really. They just seemed to be in a hurry of showing games.

No new info on DRM and the actual system itself. Price was also a turn off.

The 60fps stuff will be 720p...

I'm calling it.

Conference was ok, they showed the games as they said. Problem was outside of Titanfall and Metal Gear the games didn't do anything for me and what exclusives were shown seemed to play it very safe, certainly no wow factor.

That price! UK get's Xboned.

wow, 500 euros with the prospect of having half of the system not working around here due to lack of cable tv, plus gold, plus not uttering a single clarification on the licensing/reselling nonsense.

that would be a no-go for me even if there weren't any other consoles being launched

I really liked some of the games show but between the price point, DRM, and no free online there's no way I'll pick one up at lunch. The UK price is a fucking insult.
