PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

Not open for further replies.
Bought plus today and don't even have my PS3 yet. Wanted to lock in the last games because Rachet and Clank and Vanquish were actually on my buy list. Crazy value. Might have to buy a Vita now...

Remember though, you only get all of the current PS+ stuff if you apply it to your account AND put each game you want in the PSN basket and process each transaction.

A developer confirmed that in the comment section of the official blog. Still, what's to stop us from adding the code right after our sub lapses?
We can do that? Can you confirm that it works?
I have too much to pay for sadly
My ISP bill and TLOU

Yet another great update. Been wanting to play all three games and should have room for them on my 1TB HDD (I advise anyone with + to get a bigger hard drive, my PS3 is like a video game jukebox now, it's awesome).

Can someone tell me if EU is getting Saints Row the Third?
In the other thread it was listed as one of the US June games and people were saying EU was getting it too but I've not seen it confirmed anywhere?

Switched in a 750GB HDD today, the process was a lot simpler than I thought it'd be. Gonna start downloading a lot of the games i've "purchased" but never played like Hitman and Bioshock 2.

Okami HD is one of my games of this gen, god bless Sony and their PS+ goodness for dropping it in to my hands.
With all the games, I'm gonna need a bigger hdd, is there a guide on gaf to upgrade while transferring the content? Slim model if it helps.

Anybody interested in a 30 Day's PS+ trial? (EU, received a code through the Dutch newsletter, but i'm guessing it works outside The Netherlands aswell)

Note: Trial doesn't stack nor will it work if you've ever experienced a trial or been a subscriber before.
EDIT: Gone, heh.

You'll need:
-new HDD, 9.5mm height, 5400RPM is fine since the 7200RPM has been measured to not really make a noticeable difference (in other words, do not pay extra for 7200RPM, but it's fine to get one)
-an external HDD that is at least the same capacity as your PS3's existing HDD, formatted FAT32 and with enough space for the current drive contents. ****This cannot be the same drive you are putting into your PS3!****
-a USB drive with the latest current PS3 firmware (also make sure your PS3 is fully up to date beforehand)

1) Attach the external and perform the backup from the system menu. Depending on the size and contents and speed of your external this could take several hours. when upgrading my 320GB I had to leave it on overnight.
2) Turn off your PS3 and disconnect the power. Swap in the new HDD, mindful of the blue screws, some people have issues with stripping
3) start up the PS3 with a controller plugged in as well as the USB drive with the firmware
4) follow the prompts
5) once completed, restore your backup from the external
6) done

So if I want to, say, just clone the content of my current HDD into another, bigger one and then just plug that one into the PS3, that wouldn't work, right?

Because a friend offered to do this for me and I really don't want to purchase two HDDs (the new one for the PS3 and the external one).

Not all contents can be read from a USB drive. Mostly just media.

You can't clone a PS3 HDD, it must be formatted by the PS3 itself.

If you don't want to use an external USB you could copy your saves to the cloud and just redownload all your games later.

If anyone who doesn't have plus or never has & wants a 30 day trial, just redeem it here (think you might have to be from the UK).
Remember to cancel auto-renewal so that it won't charge you after 30 days.

Edit: promo has finished, ignore!

An old suggestion that's a bit risky is to back up the old PS3 HDD to the new PS3 HDD, move the backup folder to a PC, install new PS3 HDD, then move backup folder from PC to the old PS3 HDD. I don't know if the PS3 checks USB device IDs when restoring, but that should work. I say it's risky because there's a lot of transfers involved and if even the smallest thing goes wrong you'll lose everything.

I already had a USB HDD with a FAT32 partition for my PS3 stuff, so I went ahead and wiped that clean. Deleted all unnecessary stuff off my PS3 so the contents were only 21GB in total, the backed them up to the external HDD through the PS3 settings menu.

Disconected PS3, then removed the internal HDD and switched in the new one. Booted it back up then the PS3 autoformatted the new HDD. It reset then restored the backup from the USB HDD through the settings menu.

A poster referred to having current firmware update on another drive,I dont believe this is necessary anymore as I didnt have to do this and the PS3 was fully up to date even before the back up was restored.

Needing a copy of the firmware depends on what model your ps3 is. Part of the firmware is installed to the hdd in all but the oldest revisions.

I have a PS3 60 gig. Just joined PS Plus a month ago. Heck of a service.
Easy for me to upgrade? Also what's the biggest drive the 60 gig will fit?

Can you just get an external drive with the one in the PS3?

It seems quite often when I turn anything on (my TV, AV receiver etc come on at the same time through my Harmony remote) quite often the PS3 turns itself on too, and always changes channel on the AV Receiver to the PS3, even when I don't want to use it... is there any way to stop this please? :(
Bump, does anyone else have this please? Where the PS3 just takes control of the TV for no reason

Well I have a Bravia and I have enabled SmartLink so it does that, and conversely when I turn off the PS3 it switches inputs back to where it was previously.

What's the general consensus on Bioshock 2? Started it last night and was really impressed with the first hour or so.

I remember buying it on luanch, and returning it unopened the following day because I didn't like teh original (i know).

It's better than BS1 in several ways, and I actually preferred the overall story to Bioshock Infinite. Certainly a great game, in my opinion.

Enjoy it!

Do you have the PS3 dvd-style remote by any chance? I was getting the PS3 turning on by itself occasionally until I simply pulled the batteries out from the remote. I figured it had a dodgy contact somewhere and was responding to any vibration on the table/shelf where it was sat.

General consensus it it being much less good than Bioshock 1 I think. But I believe most people consider to shooting or plasmids to be slightly better? Not sure.

Not sure if this was already answered fellow GAFfers but the Uncharted 3 is just the game correct?

I already have it but I'm adding to the Download List despite not going to download it unless it includes some DLC. Thanks in advance.

Someone's said it's the F2P version since the singleplayer for the digital download is "additional content." Or at least that's how it came out for them. So if that's the case it's extremely doubtful it'll have the DLC.

But I think they're wording it as the "ultimate"/GOTY edition which had some DLC bits included.

Thank you for answering fellow GAFfer. In case it comes with some DLC it would be nice if I could just get that even if only by activating the game and now downloading it.

I don't think there's really a consensus on it. Most people agree that it's a less innovative and thus less memorable product, but most threads have been divided between those who consider it a waste of time and others who believe it's actually a solid sequel. Put me in the camp who thinks it's solid and worth playing.

I gave in on PS Plus now. It was simply too good to ignore. ICO/SotC, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Catherine, Rayman Origins and The Cave was too good for the price. I've been an on/off subscriber for Xbox Live Gold over the years. Comparing Gold to Plus makes it seem like throwing your money out of the window.

It's getting tempting to get a Vita with the Uncharted Golden Abyss offering this month. Can it be activated on the PS3, in case I get a Vita sometime down the line?

Just "buy" it on the PS3 or the webstore & it gets tied to your account. You can download it later when you have a vita, yes. No need to actually go through the download for now.

Turn off the 'Control for HDMI' option in Settings. It's the HDMI-CEC option, that allows a TV remote to control all HDMI connected equipment. It's an awesome feature (as long as you want it lol).
Thank you all for the replies regarding this, I think this is the place I'll start though, thanks!

Although now you've got me thinking, are you saying I can control the PS3's bluray and Netflix playback using my Harmony without needing the Bluetooth adapter?

I have a quick question I'm hoping someone can answer. I don't have a vita but I'm gonna buy a 3 month PS+ subscription just to grow my soon to be vita collection. If I where to get PS+ now what are all the games I can get for free right now? And did they announce any possible games I may get in the following months?

I tried searching but I only found Virtues last reward (not interested until I can get 999) and godeater. Only those 2?

EDIT: Nevermind, searched around some more and found it. Blazblue, gravity rush and uncharted for the price of one? Well there goes my graduation money....dammit sony I was perfectly fine with just the 3DS!

So if I get this I can just chekout the vita games on my computer and download them whenever I get a vita?
