It'll just go to more pages when it's filled.

I think more people care about Marth than Captain N.

I was talking about how Marth was to everyone in Melee..

It's not the same at all, though. Sakurai's Japanese, so he isn't going to leave characters out (like Marth) because their games didn't release in other countries.

I wasn't talking about leaving him out. I'm saying since a character that nobody knew about in the west appeared. Same can happen with Captain N. Like I said, I have hope for it to happen. I'm not really expecting it.

Mike Jones would be better representation for US only character.

I don't see his chances coming anymore. But who knows, with Wii Fit Trainer, it could happen. Also, i'd be cool if there was a Captain N color palette.

Did you watch Nintendo Direct or did you jumped straight to SSB4 trailers? Also I have release date in my thread title. Believe it or not, 2014. I wouldn't be surprised if they had to delay it.

I watched the Direct (though actually ended up missing most of the Smash stuff due to lag, caught those on YouTube immediately after). It's just after Brawl's multiple delays, I'm playing it safe with my expectations.

they can only work on x characters before they release the game due to budget and time constrains. Since Wii Fit Trainer is one of the characters, it's now x-1. How does that not make sense?

Nintendo are in an odd position, in that I think it's fair to argue that they have a trait that makes poor business sense but is potentially great for the (patient!) consumer: Their tendency to hold back games until they're completely satisfied. They're economical with budgets, but that does give them financial leeway to do that; if they feel a game would benefit from throwing a bit more money at it, they will.

There's nothing about this I don't love.

Wonder if Marth will get an English voice this time.

Well, he has appeared in English translated Fire Emblems now, so there's no reason to not give him an English voice. It's not like the characters needed VAs in their original games to get voices in Smash (see Ness and Ice Climbers). I wonder if we'll get a Fire Emblem reveal soon? There's already a stage seen in the videos, after all, but Brawl also had the FE stage spoilered fairly early, and yet we still had to wait months for Ike's confirmation.

Although the reveal likely would be an Awakening character, rather than Marth, if the series' emblem still ends up being Marth's Falchion, there's no way he's leaving.

I'm glad GAF was down most of today because I probably would've gotten banned for repeatedly posting "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" and nothing else

Parallax

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"
Then you'd be wrong. Fire Emblem was huge in Japan; Marth was one of the most requested characters on Sakurai's Melee roster survey.

sadly this is the truth. the games are made with the japanese market in mind. hell theres a character in brawl whos game hasnt had a western release

I'm interested as to why in the hell Dr. Light sent Mega Man off to fight the entirety of Nintendo. What's the backstory? :p

Mega Man pretty much made my week. But I'm really excited for Wii Fit Trainer too. Smash Bros. should be a little silly and weird. That's part of the appeal, and she fits in perfectly. Plus she looks like a lot of fun to play.

Dammit, look at this autosnap

Please... ugh. WHY?

(If you can't tell, Mario Up Bs and instead of going past the ledge like he would in Melee/64, he snaps to it asap. You can tell because the Up B sound is played but instantly ends because he was by the ledge).

How did I not notice that before!? UGH.

Wait guys.

What if Villager hasn't been shown in the 3DS version

because

his look in that game

is based on how your New Leaf character looks.

What if?

Yeah.

Get around it.

I loved the trailer and the game looks fun as always.

I was very surprised at the beginning of the trailer when the villager received a letter. I was like WHAT. It was kind of like the prediction that I made late last week. haha

The rest of the ND will play out like these two scenarios, with trailers being shown for new games and Iwata/Miyamoto showing up at the end and handing out letter for the characters in most of those games. (Like Bayonetta, X(??), Wonderful 101, Sonic, Metroid, Star Fox, Yoshi, etc...)

The end of the ND will feature all of those character meeting each other at a specified place. All of them will look confused and then Iwata and Miyamoto will show up and tell them that they have all been invited to a new SUPER SMASH BROTHERS. New characters will be revealed and everyone starts fighting each other. lo

It's certainly possible.

The idea just makes me hope that alternate costumes will make it in this time.

I have a theory that "total number of characters is the same" quote may have been Sakurai picking his words carefully to convey the idea that the rosters will be basically the same while leaving room to allow some minor differences.

For example, Young Link might be in the 3DS version because of OoT3D while Toon Link would be in the Wii U version because of WWHD. Evidence supporting this would be Spirit Tracks Link conducting the Spirit Train as an NPC (although yes I know WW Link is separate) as well as the 3DS Gerudo Valley stage.

Other possibilities under this theory would be Ike in the Wii U version while Chrom is in the 3DS version, or Sheik might be in the 3DS version while Impa is in the Wii U version. They'd have have basically the same movesets and it would be an elegant way to represent different aspects of each series.

I guess the one piece of evidence against this would be that Link isn't more Ocarina-styled in the 3DS version, but they could just want all the primary Smash characters to be consistent.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
I think the thing that kind of bugs me is that we got two characters at once that are "-Ers" and not full characters. Individually, I like both of then, but together they seem a bit...I dunno, disappointing for the initial reveals.

Regardless, after watching the Developer Interview, I'm hyped. Mega Man and Villager are really deep I noticed like Game and Watch, where even their normals appear to incorporate countless stuff from their games as opposed to simple physical attacks. I hope all the New Characters are as fun, and the best part is I feel like a lot of characters that before were scoffed at for being too obscure are now ripe for the picking.
