I think we all suspected that Versus would become XV for a while now so the reveal didn't come as a shock to me. I was fine with it up until the Kingdom Hearts reveal. Now it feels somewhat redundant.

I'm a FF since its inception and I honestly don't care. To me the battle system and battle mechanics are where I always love to see them try new things. It's the rest of the game I prefer to remain classic style. As in nice characters, nice explorable overworld, etc....all that other stuff that makes an FF game.

I wouldn't complain if the battle system was classic style but I have no qualms with trying new stuff.

I really want to see someone actually playing a game section before I can fully be awed by the title. It looks soooo good but this E3 has reminded me to be very careful about what you see and what you eventually get.

I could've sworn they said that XV was coming to PS3 during the conference. Some other people her said they did too, what gives?

Yes, it is an action-based RPG. There’s not much turn-based style in it, but if you look carefully in the trailer, the command system is on the screen, as well, so we tried to keep a Final Fantasy taste. But we are not trying to make it an action-only game. Making the game Final Fantasy is the most important thing. I want everyone to imagine if Final Fantasy would be an action game—this is what it would be.

Nomura on XV's Battle system.

2014 holiday worldwide release
(FFXVI revealed here E3 or TGS)
2015 holiday worldwide release (Kingdom Hearts III)
2016 holiday world release (FFXVI)

Something like this, imo. SE put a lot of focus on getting big names out yearly.

Hopefully. Maybe Q1 2015 worldwide. If it were 2014 though they could have said so at E3.

Yeah, it may slip into 2015 (like Jan/Feb) and that's why they've not committed to a release date. At TGS they'll probably have a new trailer showing the world exploration and whatnot, it'll end with a release window.

I really hope it's released by the end of 2014. The game seems in really good shape right now, and the japanese dub is done (which means that all the story, CG movies and cutscenes dialogues are finalized).
I don't think it's going to take more than an other year and half to release it.
Also the new CEO sent a clear message, they want to get the series back on track with no further delays.

I love you in a bro kind of way. I forgot that we are probably gonna get a nice stream of info over the next few months :v

I think Square has just learned their lesson about promising release dates before they KNOW a game is ready to go. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a spring release date (in either 2014 or 2015, depending on how far along it is) like XIII and XIII-2 did.

A part of me is sad that turn based combat is completely gone from Final Fantasy.

Ironically enough, LR will be the last ATB game in ther series until at least XVI (and there is no guarentee there).

Also: how do we know the Japanese demo is done?

It's nice to see the game re-introduced and heading toward completion. Still, I can't say that anything in the trailer appealed to me (except maybe the interaction among the party members on the battlefield). I'll have to hear more about how combat and world exploration work.

Holy shit @ the new gameplay. I'm not even a graphics whore, but it's freakin beautiful. If they can make the whole game look this amazing, and still have it be open world and as big as a jrpg world should be, with exploration and non linearity, then I am floored.

I was so disappointed with XIII, I loved Matsuno's XII, though. Nomura we are counting on you!!!

Yeah, the game is now officially and publicly positioned as the next major FF, thus it'll be in full production going forward - no more long silences.

God damn, I'm loving the monster and environment designs. And the scale of the bit with the Leviathan looks amazing.

Although I gotta agree with the people who are saying the combat looks a bit like Kingdom Hearts 2: press button to do really fancy moves.

I'm a little disappointed there aren't more female cast members. A 9-2 (and one Ezio) ratio is not exactly ideal. This series has always done quite nicely with female gender representation. Not perfect, but not bad. Also irks me that Noctis has a full dude posse, but Stella seems to only have one gal pal on her side? I'll wait and see what kind of tale the story has to tell, but I'd have liked to have seen more ladies play a part, for either side.

some of that stuff could have fit in well in Advent Children. Crazy that game engines are getting close to that level.

The final product will look even better, quite likely. They've only been working on this next-gen version for a year and it already looks this good, there's still room for improvement (especially visual effects and IQ & framerate). Another year and I can't even imagine how good it will look.

KH2.5 is in no way a BIG big release and they need a big Japanese game for their next fiscal year after having XIV & Lightning Returns during the current one. Versus will be released in 2014, most likely. Just because Thief might be releasing around the same time has no meaning, the Japanese side of SQEX needs to earn its keep, they can't just fool around just because their western studios have a big game coming as well.

I don't think Stella is quite on the villains' side. She's from one of the countries the villains invaded and conquered, so she's not really affiliated with Niflheim. She'll probably switch sides repeatedly over the course of the story, if I had to hazard a guess.

Yeah, I expect this. KH3 with Osaka team will be done by 2015 no prob. FFXV should be out before it, so 2014 and Kitase team has 3 years after LR to make XVI by 2016.

Yeah. With nothing holding back the game's development, AMAZING things could happen.I remember a report somwhere that the staff has retained its key members but its bigger than ever. I am genuinely excited.

If it is I'd be entirely sad, it's wonderful gameplay. There's really no reason for it to go.

That said I'm agog to see what it's like to fight with these monsters like this, being able to choose which leg to attack and all that.

Also, It can't be completely impossible to create an action game that is mentally challenging. Crisis core did it quite well.

I think traditional ATB is exhausted at the moment. What they are shooting for is far more ambitious.

Also Souls series and Witcher 2 were both more challenging than most FFs , and they were fully action RPGs.

I'm not predicting those windows because that's what I want but because that's what I think will happen. Also, 1.5 was charged high in Japan. 2.5 will be similar in Japan. That's not a big BIG game to you? k.

Good point - the battle system here is far more ambitious than anything we've seen before, certainly more than any turn-based system. I encourage this kind of experimentation, it's exciting :D

If people want turn based, by a 3DS and get Bravely Default.

Meanwhile let's let next gen games actually try to be innovative please.

Yes it will be amazing :D Just balance the difficulty and it will be all fine :D KH had some really challenging battles sometimes that force you to read your enemies and understand their patterns. I think we can trust these guys :D
