Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

This is by far the most impressive thing I've watched this E3. Utterly incredible. Game of the show for me. They better upload all this stuff on the PSN store.

That really was intense, will be interesting to see how he handles this ingame. Kojima does often have interesting themes to his stories but with the completely OTT way he goes about this along with awkward dialogue, he hasn't hit an emotionally resonant note with me besides MGS1 (I played MGS1 after MGS2 however).

A few things:

Solid Snake was probably named after Zero (David Oh)

It was already mentioned, but Ishmael, Eli, and David are both biblical names.

People keep talking about Big Boss' descent into evil in this game, but (aside from that scene where he seems to shoot the african prisoners), he's hasn't done anything awful. If you notice the torture scenes, only Ocelot and Miller are the ones behind it. We all know Ocelot (inspired by Volgin) loves torturing people and Miller won't mind it because he'd be through worse. I don't think Big Boss would condone that if he knew. After MGS3, I've always felt that he was painted to be a villain by the government or Zero in the same manner The Boss was. You know, "reviled by history" and such.

Does Chico look older in the bomb removal scene? He's wearing different clothes. I don't like how similar his face is to Eli's.

Ishmael is most likely that young Psycho Mantis projecting himself into Big Boss' mind to help him escape. He peers into Snake's mind and recreates Volgin and those who "Don't Exist." Him hiding his face (bandages and the gas mask) and the use of fire is kind of a tell.

I really want there to be some kind of relation between The End and Silence. For a guy that's over 100 years old to have no kids is strange.

A big theme in MGS3 was that today's allies could be tomorrow's enemy. I think that after getting tortured and losing a few limbs, Master Miller would really, really fucking hate Zero. I imagine him and Snake butting heads over how over-the-edge Kaz has gone.

It's such a shame that Chico is a snitch again in this game. I forget, but was he tortured in the first game? He seems a little "off" in the Ground Zeroes trailer when Skull Face is talking to him. Maybe he was drugged?

A pretty taboo thing to do in-game would be having to kill the child soldiers. Maybe they'd have to be tranq'd? In Portable Ops (which some consider canon), he rescued Grey Fox as a child soldier.

I hate how the mane of Ocelot's horse and Snake's are basically the same. Come on, make them different, at least!

One last thing, the scene where he seemingly guns down those prisoners, he's probably aiming at something behind them to free them or at a guard.

That trailer was pretty fucked up.

It's all a matter of making the gameplay interesting and they haven't done that yet.

It looked like a mix between AC and RDR but I don't know these modern Metal Gears don't do much for me.

Most think he's Liquid. I don't think Raiden is old enough.

I see.

Raiden was a child soldier in Africa iirc. Was it ever mentioned that Liquid was also a child soldier? I think you might be right though. If MGS5 takes place in 1985, and that kid looks to be 10-13 years old, that would put Raiden in his late 30's ealry 40's in SOL. He doesn't look a day over 24 in SOL.

I believe the name Ishmael was used because of the whole Moby Dick reference (fake studio and the fire whale). We already know Big Boss ends up hating the world and government superpowers for what happened to him and his comrades. This seems to be showing us his decent. There's a reason the text "men become demons" shows up. Remember; Big Boss' dream is a free state of mercenaries that don't answer to government and politics.

Callo that's not Chico in the bomb removal scene.

It's Paz.

I see.

Raiden was born in the 1980s and was child soldier in 1989. Eli is likely Liquid Snake given his age and location of Phantom Pain.

Raiden was a child soldier in the 80's in Liberia. Giving Raiden a name other than Jack would just add to the confusion. Since we don't know Liquid's real name, Eli is a possibility (or just a new character). Raiden met Solidus in Liberia. Solidus trained him and, after killing his parents, brought him up as his own.

Also, TPP takes place in '84.

I really hope they don't shoehorn all of the characters they can into this like they did with MGS4 or draw kind of unnecessary links (ie. somehow Quiet was Sniper Wolf's mother or some shit).

But yeah that trailer looked absolutely fantastic and I am hyped for a Metal Gear Solid game again. The cast all look great, the bosses (are they the ones who don't exist? They seem to be the games troupe of enemies which I love) as well as Kiefer's voice are just coming together to make an awesome package.

My only real concerns at this point is that the open world will hurt the pacing of the game a little bit. But I have faith that the team know what they're doing.

I know. There's another character to the left of the scene at Paz's side. I thought it was confirmed to be Chico.

Wow, didn't know that (about Moby Dick). As for the rest of the stuff, I just want to see MG1 through Big Boss' perspective.

Anyone think that the cinematography in what we've seen of the cutscenes is much improved from previous games? It seems a lot more captivating and professional than before.

Of course, it could just be the music and clipped pace.

I think they probably mean they're on the same disc, as a Tanker/Plant, Virtuous Mission/Snake Eater thing, but until someone at KojiPro actually says the words I'll still have doubts. They've been using the 'prologue' line for months now

Listen to the new KP Alert episode, at around 29 minutes.

Well, we got a good chunk of the Tanker chapter and the Virtuous Mission as demos before, so I could see them doing something similar, but MGS4's demo was available at least a full year after MGS4's release. :/

All in all...

All I want to see is Solid Snake being shown in some way and also Campbell with BB. EVA present would also be awesome (for the Les Enfants Terribles project)

This is why I think that Big Boss doesn't know about the torturing. Silent is tortured in the same room. They fear a leak, remember that Chico snitching is presumably what caused Kaz and Big Boss to get so thoroughly fucked up.

Also, I just noticed, Chico has a retainer.

Her name is "Quiet."
Ah, thanks.

This looks fucking incredible. Was so busy today I completely forgot about the extended trailer until like 20 minutes ago. Wasn't sure how excited I would be for another mainline MGS, but this has me all in.

Though I need to go back and beat Peace Walker for story reasons. I have it as part of the HD collection on 360, but I wasn't crazy about it so I gave up kinda early.

So english KP Report is out

Mentions Snake, Emmerich, Ocelot, Kaz as returning characters
and Quite & Codetalker as the new characters.
no mention of Eli...

Notice the text below Eli's name; a youth who curses his fate.

Liquid grew up thinking he was the inferior clone, garbage compared to Solid Snake. That would certainly make sense.

I think what really confuses people is that back on march 29, when they showed the new GDC trailers, Geoff interviewed Kojima after the show and referring to Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain asks:
"So you're gonna buy Metal Gear Solid 5 and you're going to get this all together or- . .'
Kojima responds by referring to them as pieces and then he follows up with
"So we can't comment yet on how these things will be distributed and sold, but what we can say is that you know Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain will be Two parts of a whole and Ground Zeroes will come first and it will kind of be, The Phantom Pain on a smaller scale so it'll be open world but not quite as big as Phantom Pain it will allow the user to jump in and learn how to sneak in real time in that open world and later on when Phantom Pain comes along it will be a HUGE open world- . . .'

I think it's mistranslated in "comes first" means it happens first in the game.
