Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

Sadly I couldnt hear well the bowser circus one or the boss in the demo videos, that were the ones that are probably more interesting.

And yes, the main theme sucks, theres no way around that, not even if its orchestrated. Main theme for SMW or SMB3 is amazing, and you dont need an orchestra to say is good. This one is bland and forgattable.

Even the 3D Land theme was awesome imo. This is like a neutered version of that with the same instruments.

I really don't get the complaints about this game. It looks amazing, everyone who has played it says it plays brilliantly.

If this game came out with any other name, you'd be going on about how innovative it is, how nice it looks, how multiplayer 3D Mario is amazing.

I fail to see how it's attempting to get "casuals". Anybody who has played 3D Land will attest to that, it gets really tricky and is a fantastic game.

Yes, Nintendo could have made a Metroid game, or a Starfox game, or something to "win back" the core, except it wouldn't work. Those games barely make over 2 million sales, if they even manage to break 1 million.

Nintendo is a business and they need to do what is best for that business. Super Mario 3D Land spurred sales of the 3DS drastically, and its merge of 2D and 3D Mario games made it the fastest selling 3D Mario game to exist. It is what the Wii U needs. Bundle this with a Wii U for $300 around Black Friday, and the Wii U will fly off shelves.

They have implied that the music isn't done yet, and it will be orchestrated

Looks like a rushed 3DS game don't tell us what to like if we wanted a 3D mario. It's not what the Wii u is capable of and it's nothing innovate and inventive and had this had a different name/characters people wouldn't be so forgiving.

Honestly I think this would probably have perfect gameplay and level design. I've wanted the return of four players and different abilities (Peach!) in 3D and now we have that. And the cat suit seems fun. Don't forget the classic portraits.

But...

While it might not have been as fun, I wanted something new. Not 64 Returns. Not Galaxy 3 (Galaxy 2 was a more "ehh" announcement for me*).
The thing is I want something with epic presentation like that galaxy intro and story, a memorable theme like the tropics or the space. A possibly boring hub I can explore like the castle or Delfino Island or the Observatory. Fresh levels rather than the infamous 8 worlds. Heck I would even take new mechanics that everyone will hate ala FLUDD in Sunshine.

*More of the same with terrible presentation compared to predecessor, despite being a more fun game.

You wanted 3D Mario, you have 3D Mario. Reports stating single player mode has Galaxy style camera.

Not their fault you wanted a "different" 3D Mario

Don't buy it and send a message to Nintendo. I know I'm not paying money for this, until they reveal a proper mainline Mario game for WiiU. I wish Club Nintnedo had a survey up on this game right now.

So you aren't going to buy what looks to be a very good platformer because it isn't the platformer that you wanted? Come on, now.

Yes. If this might potentially replace what I want from them, then I don't wanna reward it with my wallet. (For the record, I do think that -as you stated- it looks fantastic. It's just not what I want. Will probably borrow it off a friend if I have to.)

3D Land is a smaller, compact game made specifically for the 3DS ground up. To take the same design and apply it to Wii U is ludicrous. And I would argue it looks more bland than even 3D Land. CERTAINLY doesnt look like a game with a budget of Galaxy. Reminds me of Ratchet and Clank all4one.

bland. blehh. Not so pretty. Mario should be pushing Wii U's graphics, its their flagship title

those screens are hideous. they have to be compressed or something.

Did they really put a damn run button in there again? What are they thinking? They themselfes invented the analog stick and used it perfectly in every Mario game so far, so why do such a stupid thing :/? Do they think people cannot control how far they move an anlogstick anymore?

Do you know one thing? I think what you say it's not irony, it's true: people can't use correctly analog sticks anymore. I see it every time. They just smash them in one direction with all their strength, as if they actually don't understand the purpose of them being analog at all. I remember when Mario 64 came out, just the fact I could decide with apparently infinite gradients how fast Mario should run blew my mind away. I passed hours just experimenting the thing. It was really amazing passing from digital to analog back then, maybe people who didn't experienced the passage just don't get it.
Anyway, 3DLand and even more 3DWorld seems a very fast paced game which more emphasis on running and timed jumps than on moving around/exploring, I personally feel the run button isn't out of place and gives instead a more tight control that feels right.

it doesn't have analog control its all controlled with the d pad and wii mote held sideways ala new super mario bros

I really like the look of this, more so than the first videos of 3D Land (which I haven't played yet). Also I'd imagine that a "proper" 3D Mario game is under development, or at least in the planning stages, but not ready for show yet - if three different styles of Mario platforming can be supported with games that'd be totally super to me.

"Lazy" is the most lazy description of games these days btw. Although I lacked any real surprise (and still some proper use of the Upad screen damnit) from Nintendo's conference yesterday nothing I saw from it looked like anything less than a proper game.

I hope the latter half of the game is as awesome as it was in 3D Land. As much as I wanted a new type 3D Mario game, 3D Land ended upnbeing my favourite modern Mario game over Galaxies.

I start thinking that this game could be a great introduction to the series for children. But the price to pay for the console is rather steep. I am confused regarding the appeal of this Mario being on WiiU.

Good. This is exactly how it should work. Don't buy things you don't like.

At the demos on the show floor, Nintendo only had Wiimotes for all the players to control beyond the first. That meant that we were stuck using d-pads to control a 3D Mario game. I'll say that again: Nintendo forced me to play with a d-pad in a 3D Mario game. I just didn't understand. How can one play a 3d platformer effectively with a d-pad? I had to try for myself to find out. The answer is that one can't. This controlled like shit for me and anyone else I saw not being player one. When I asked the reps at the booth about other control options, they stated that the use of Nunchucks was not supported, but that they were "working on" Wii U Pro Controller support.

For Nintendo's sake, I hope that isn't the case for the demo booths at Bestbuy etc.

Going from Galaxy 2 to this as the flagship console Mario platformer? It's like buying a BMW after you've driven a Ferrari. Not aggressively disappointing, but still disappointing.

For me I'd say it's more like seeing an ex that I'd always hoped would sort themselves out one day, slouched drunk on a bench outside of a dodgy nightclub.

You know that you made the right decision, but part of you is saddened by the thought of what might have been.

Was really hoping Ninty would be dazzling and radiant in it's best party frock. Instead I keep walking on by with a sigh and a rueful smile.

I want to publicly thank Nintendo for not putting an optical out on the WiiU. I almost got caught up in hype and pre-ordered one but that rustled my jimmies enough that I didn't. In retrospect that is the least of the WiiU's problems. This game looks like a 3DS game that they upped the resolution on and slapped on WiiU. I am sure it will be a nice game and all but it is nothing like I expected a 3D Mario to look like in both graphics and scope and not that game that would make me run out and buy a WiiU.

When I was watching Nintendo's E3 presentation this morning, the stream was getting was laggy and fucking up, and it cut into the middle of what looked like and what I thought was a new Mario Party game. I later find out that this is the new 3D Wii U Mario game. Fucking disappointing.

Like it has been mentioned, the game looks decent, but it is a HUGE downgrade from the previous Galaxy games. I mean it's not a "lazy" effort, but it really doesn't look like a whole lot of love and development time and money is being put into this. Sad.

Also...No online? Hahaha. All I can do is laugh.

You guys think there will be a new story in this one? peach is a playable and Bowser didnt appear in the trailer. Maybe Wart is back.

My initial reaction was of minor disappointment - SM3DL was fantastic but I was anticipating a Super Mario Universe or something similar.

However, the more I see of this the more absolutely brilliant to play it appears. I really can't wait.

Bowser is kidnapped. At first, peace reigns in the Mushroom Kingdom. However, with King Koopa gone, thousands of Goombas and Koopas go unemployed. The hole in the economy left by the collapse of Bowser's henchmen trade leads to a recession. It's up to Mario, Luigi, Toad and Peach to find Bowser and restore his neccesary evil.

Well I guess it does look like a fun game.

However after mario 64 galaxy and all the great games nintendo put out I feel this is mediocre. I don't see why we need to be complacent and think this is better or on par with what a full on sequel to mario galaxy would have given us...it's not now the "new" poision has made it's way to the 3D games.

I own 3D land it was fun but I just wanted more

Super Mario Iraq.

Honestly I was a bit disappointed when I saw this on the ND. I was like "OK... but where's my Wii U original 3D Mario?" But after sleeping on it and watching the developer direct, it really does look pretty darn fun. I love local co-op, especially for platformers, and from this game's pedigree, you know it will be one of the best, if not the best.

This is what people need to do. I know of so many people who were disappointed and uneasy about this game, they then watched the Developer Direct

So when does more info come out about this? I'd like to know if it's as short as 3d Land. Also, will it be more MP focused or is it just optional.

Multiplayer is optional. Don't know anything about length, obviously. It'll be a few months before we learn anything more

I thought I saw Peach kind of floating in one of the videos. That being said I would enjoy something influenced by Super Mario Bros. 2 (U.S.). Also, it's too bad cell shading was a short lived aesthetic phenomenon in video games. This is a game I think that could have benefited.
