Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Mr. Edgewood better be in this.

Hell yeah Wonder-Eyes Red.

But I really want to see them somehow pull off the main hitters of the Wonderful 100 line-up. Red only has the fist, Blue has the sword, Green has the gun and Pink has the whip. They should make them the next Pokémon Trainer.

It's really hard to guess, considering how this game has a completely different development team from Brawl's, which also had a different development team from Melee's. Melee was done in around one year apparently, but Brawl took much longer.

Well do note that it's being co-developed by Namco now. The development process should be much faster.

I had no idea. Glad it didn't have anything to do with the Adventure series.

At least Wii Fit girl is entertaining. Much better than Pichu, for example.

Pichu was a terrible character and a clone to boot.

For all we know, WFG could have an amazing moveset, but that ain't the problem here. The problem is, who the hell wanted to be WFG in the first place. It's a WASTED slot. I'd much rather have a well design lovable character, than a well designed uninspiring, no-name.

I wonder what Zelda will look like. Link's design in terms ofcostume, etc, didn't change in Skyward Sword, just the art style, but of course Zelda got a total overhaul.

So will they just stick with the Twilight Princess model with different colours or what?

I was REALLY pissed when the trailer didn't show they were using SS Link. Here's their chance to completely refresh his moveset, but it looks like it's gonna be the same thing all over again. God damn waste.

I don't know how you can say wasted when we dont even know how many characters are in the game.

Go home Geoff.

Jesus god no. wolf sonic He ruined sonic adventure 3. ( fun fact yeah he actually did )

This guy still thinks knuckles popular, I feel bad for him.
Like practically every other character in Sonic, Knuckles was ruined by dialogue. He went from a gullible dreadlocked mofo who smashed through walls and blew stuff up for fun to 'stoic concerned emo loner stereotype'. And don't get me started on how they destroyed Tails beyond repair.

I'd like to see a Koopa Troopa as a playable character, even though there are hundreds of better candidates. I've been saying this since Melee, I just love that dopey little turtle.

With my current obsession for Awakening, I'm also really hoping for Lucina... and Vaike as an assist trophy. Sometimes he attacks opponents, sometimes he forgets his axe and does nothing.
Not going to happen.

Get out.

I'm not really feeling the Wii Fit Trainer character, but villager and Mega Man look good in my book. Now please Nintendo, add Paper Mario to take my hype level to even further levels.

I was browsing my Steam library and remembered something. Theres a Manager Man in Sonic Racing which is just as weird as Wii Fit Trainer here in Smash.

You say Knuckles but you don't even touch Wolf Sonic?

She has a different voice in the Japanese trailer, but all the Western trailers (I saw a French one as well) have the same voice actress speaking English. So, I wouldn't count on it, but it might be because it's a very early trailer and they didn't bother giving that a new voice over for the Euro languages.

Did they give the Pokemon different voices in the different Euro languages in Brawl? I know they changed the narrator's announcements accordingly, and they might've changed the Pokemon Trainer, but beyond that, I don't remember anything else.

Yes, some characters (Narrator, pokemon trainer, lucario...) had PAL5 dubs in brawl.

People, there are no "slots". That's not how fighting game development works. If WFT weren't in, there would just be one less character.

How do people not get this?

I was REALLY pissed when the trailer didn't show they were using SS Link. Here's their chance to completely refresh his moveset, but it looks like it's gonna be the same thing all over again. God damn waste.

Why is it a waste? Whom would inherit Link's moveset then? You can't just completely overhaul a character's moveset randomly. Imagine Ryu starting to use Tae Bo and throwing volleyballs instead of Hadokens.

The problem is, who the hell wanted to be WFG in the first place. It's a WASTED slot. I'd much rather have a well design lovable character, than a well designed uninspiring, no-name.

I don't understand the "wasted slot" logic in the slightest, ESPECIALLY considering we don't know how many characters the final roster will have, and which other characters we're going to see.
There's no "character slots". The devs decide which character style fits their gameplay idea and roll with it. Without Wii Fit Trainer, there would just be one less character.

And why do you think she is a "no-name"? The 2 Wii Fit titles almost sold over 40 million units together. Even alone, both Wii Fit titles sold TWICE as much as Brawl.

Wii Fit Trainer might not have been an "obvious" choice, but she perfectly fits the mold of Smash fighters.
I'd rather have Wii Fit Trainer as a unique and fresh character than another garbage generic ass Pokemon or Zelda character.

Wii Fit Trainer is a fantastic choice. Yes, I'd be upset if she did replace one of my requested characters, but her reveal was so unexpected that I'm honestly way too impressed by Sakurai's decision to include her to ever hate.

And did someone honestly say Lucario was one the of the worst choices?

Lucario fits well in the world of Smash Bros and was a vast improvement over the shit that was melee Mewtwo. This coming from someone who considers Mewtwo an utter badass in the Pokemon series.

I think it's more that they COULD have used the time to implement another character, rather than necessarily wasting a slot.

I'm okay with her, but if we don't get another female character when the final roster is unveiled then yeah I'll retract that statement.

For all we know, WFG could have an amazing moveset, but that ain't the problem here. The problem is, who the hell wanted to be WFG in the first place. It's a WASTED slot. I'd much rather have a well design lovable character, than a well designed uninspiring, no-name.

Before the announcement? Basically nobody.

After as she was announced, she is now my favourite of the newly announced characters. Yes, even higher than Mega Man and the Villager.

I did.

I wanted a troll character and she seems the one, alongside Villager.
. . Waluigi and Mii.

So it begins. Roster whining.

No one wanted WFT at first, but she looks funny and cool as fuck so I'll gladly take it. There's no such thing as a wasted slot when we don't even know the full roster.

Better to have her than to have another Fox clone.

Psycho Villager is the new Disaster Girl.

They've already confirmed that it's going to be the same count as brawl. It's in one of the interviews.
This can't be true. It means that at least six characters are getting axed due to the three confirmed and three rumored characters to show up during E3. Not to mention all the potential newcomers.

I'm calling 45 character slots in a worst case scenario.

I'm looking for the screenshot but I'm sure I saw one with Zelda in it and she looked her Twilight Princess design.

I want a source.

Who says the time would've went into another character, though?
As mentioned before, this is not how the development of fighting game characters works. There's certain playstyles you'll want to cover, and in fighting games especially, this means that sometimes, fan service takes a step down in preference to gameplay. Which is GOOD.

Imagine if all we got are sword wielders because they're the most requested and popular characters. There's only so many styles of sword fighting you can work with.

Did they give the Pokemon different voices in the different Euro languages in Brawl? I know they changed the narrator's announcements accordingly, and they might've changed the Pokemon Trainer, but beyond that, I don't remember anything else.

They did dub the Pokèmon Trainer, Lucario & the announcer. I am not sure about the Pokèmons, because I don't know much baout them.
Everything I say refers to the German version, but am I pretty sure they did the same for the other 3 big languages.
Unfortunately they did not dub Snake or Sonic, or the Fire Emblem characters.

p.s.: and they did not use the established voice actors for the Pokèmon trainer and Lucario, but Nintendo claimed they did.

They've already confirmed that it's going to be the same count as brawl. It's in one of the interviews.

No they haven't.

Wii Fit Trainer is an amazing choice. What makes her amazing is the fact that so many people seemed to think they had the roster worked out, because they said "the rosters were always predictable", even when they never actually were, and now, bam! here's a character basically nobody thought of. And yet, she fits (ha!) perfectly.

....Villager is still king though.

Someone posted the following link a link a while back, and I've had it bookmarked ever since:

http://www.geocities.jp/bgrtype/gsl/words2/dairantosmabrax/smashbrothersx.html

It's a collection of Sakurai's post-Brawl Famitsu writings. I'd love for someone who knows Japanese to translate it, because it really gives some insight into his design process and work ethic. It would be a fun read for sure.

From what I can see, Sakurai suggests that Brain Training, Wii Sports, and Wii Fit are the only new major series since Pikmin, but he wonders how they could be turned into characters. I suppose we got our answer with Wii Fit Trainer! Since the Mii is rumored, I wonder if Dr. Kawashima might show up in some fashion. Maybe as an Assist Trophy?

Also, Sakurai goes on to say that an Animal Crossing character wouldn't fit the nature of Smash Bros. He does suggest a net and shovel as attacks, though.

I wonder what Zelda will look like. Link's design in terms ofcostume, etc, didn't change in Skyward Sword, just the art style, but of course Zelda got a total overhaul.

Link's design in Skyward Sword did change some pieces, even if it was still similar to Twilight Princess' design, art style aside. The design used here is basically ignoring Skyward Sword's Link, aside from the color pallet. I'd guess that Zelda will look very similar to her Twilight Princess' self too, likely changing the alternate brighter Ocarina of Time-style colors (one of her alternate colors in Brawl) into her default appearance though.

They've already confirmed that it's going to be the same count as brawl. It's in one of the interviews.

They never said that directly. Sakurai talked about not focusing on just adding characters and how they already had reached a limit, but he said almost the exact same things about Brawl and it still ended up with significantly more characters than Melee. They obviously aren't heavily revamping the basic engine or anything. This isn't a completley different game. I don't see what would be the point of throwing away a bunch of usable assets and designs.

The problem is, who the hell wanted to be WFG in the first place. It's a WASTED slot. I'd much rather have a well design lovable character, than a well designed uninspiring, no-name.

Well that's the point. You can't have a fun surprising character that no one would have expected in a million years if people actively WANT them.

Heh, I love how people have some weird concept of "wasted" slots, as if Sakurai had Ridley in one hand, and WFG in the other, and went with the latter because LOL he's a troll. "Wasted characters" are a complete fallacy. They don't start off with "Hm, we have 35 slots, let's fill them all in", they add whatever characters fit. If Ridley and Knuckles and Geno don't fit, they won't be in the damn game.

I saw an image where they merged disaster girl and villager but I can't find it anywhere :(

Sakurai's roster count comment was made years ago, before he even had a development team in place. I wouldn't put any stock into it.

I feel insulted you name Ridley along with Knuckles and Geno. :(
Like as if Ridley wasn't a genuine and good character to add.
I do agree with the rest of your post though

Is it just me or do the Wii U models look to only have marginally more polys than the 3ds counterpart?

The relatively low-res hides the polycount on the 3DS. For example, whereas on the Wii U, the suspenders and buttons are their own objects from the rest of the overalls, on the 3DS it looks to be all one surface with texures. The outlines also serve to help blur any jaggies on the characters, making them look smoother than they actually are.

Why not? People are boring and want 15 Fire Emblem characters.

And all of them didn't give a shit about the series before Melee with no name Marth.

And since it's Namco, expect jiggle physics.

That includes Wario.

Sakurai never said that it would have the same amount of characters. He simply stated that it wouldn't be enough to just do that for the next entry in the series. Even if he had said . It was in the beginning of development and things could have changed since then.

But Ridley is too big for the roster!

Something something Geno something

I think if there are any "slots," they're for the original 8 + og smash unlocks, and the other Mario and Zelda characters. After that, they just add to that number.

It was just an example man, of course he is. If he works well. If the Wii Fit Trainer works well, who are we to argue?

Dude I'm sporting Wii Fit Trainer as my avatar. I'm not one to argue. I welcome just about any character that isn't named Krystal or Geno. :P

This, I don't know what they were thinking with this character. Did they feel they were running low on recognizable characters?

No, they were thinking "Let's put in Wii Fit Trainer!".

People, get off of the numerical value thing. The dev team gets together and talks about stuff like "which characters would we like to add?" or "which characters would fit into playstyle X?", not "alright, we've got to add 10 new characters, let's take this one and this one."
