Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

Goddamn, I just watched this on my TV in 1080p and it blew me away. If this is what next gen is going to look like, sign me up right now. Wow.
The scariest thing is that PS3 footage from previous trailer, other than resolution, didn't look that much different or less impressive (if the trailer was really on PS3 hardware). Fox Engine is a crazy piece of work.

Everything they have shown has been on PC at a minimum
That is true, but the word was that PC was on equal to X360 and PS3. Trailers were at 720p, had no or minimal AA, and dithered transparencies (alpha-to-coverage). I do really find it hard to believe they achieved physcal-based material rendering on these old consoles, and made it actually usable in a working game, but they claim they have.

Disappointing part is that they still have no AA and dithered transparencies on next gen machines. It's not terribly visible but still.

I'm going to play through Peace Walker this weekend, need to catch up fast!

Speculation on the 'horn' on BB's forehead? I'm starting to think that it isn't really there, and only exists from the players perspective, a metaphor of BB becoming evil, symbolic of the devil within him.

Has anyone pointed out those child soldiers were all the same model? Early stages of the terrible children program I guess.

Also who is the guy that's modeled after Rutger Hauer? The guy with the sunglasses and beret overseeing the water boarding with ocelot.

Probably just a budget thing. I didn't even notice. The guy with sunglasses is Kaz.

Kojima isn't one to make that sort of compromise. I think it's intentional especially considering the kids in the prison were all different.

And not that guy. He was older. Looked exactly like Rutger Hauer. He was sitting in front of whoever was getting water boarded inside the dungeon looking area.

Wow...this has to be in the top three best trailers. That was amazing on so many levels. The moment where the gameplay starts is nearly chill inducing. Almost like you aren't supposed to be playing it, yet you are.

I need to finish PW on ps3. Im near the very end, but ive pretty much done everything besides the "find dude in random mission" parts and the final boss fight

E: also realized i'm like 3/4 of the way through a big boss run on 4 that i dropped around thanksgiving last year

curious how the game is structured, it's open world but it's obviously set in several countries, several maps with your base as a hub probably, wonder how big the maps are and how many times you have to backtrack same areas, see Peace Walker side missions.

It definitely looks nice but I'm still not sure I need any more Metal Gear. The series seems to focus too much on cutscenes for my taste.

Maybe. Could be related to Solidus maybe? I guess we'll find out.

And yes, that guy is Kaz. It's his post-recovery Phantom Pain design. He's missing his right arm, and he looks exactly like an older Kaz.

Would it be too far-fetched to expect another known 'child soldier' cameo in this next game? It's kind of a stretch but wth it's Kojima.
Drebin with his scar?

This weekend?!? It took me 160 hours to complete that game!

MGS5 will be the reason I grab a PS4. This trailer really does make it look like Kojima's taking it to a whole new level, and I can't wait to go for the ride...

Watched this last night, and come this morning I have to say I can't stop thinking about it. There's this sad tone of inevitability to the whole thing that is really chilling.

"The world calls for wet work, and we answer. No greater good. No just cause."

Snake / Big Boss sounds so worn down and hopeless, and knowing how wrong it all goes later makes it very affecting and creepy.

What??? I assumed it was longer than a typical MG due to the mission structure, but that long? Or is that a do every single mission, cross the t's, dot the i's type of completion?

I get the feeling this is going to be my weakness too. It just looks amazing. Sometimes I think I'm done with Metal Gear, but Metal Gear is never done with me.

Why would you ever want to be done with Metal Gear? It's the single most amazing series that has ever existed in gaming/story-telling.

That was Kaz not Big Boss. Big Boss has the lines when he frees Kaz in the trailer and also right at the end he says he is a demon. But Kiefer sounds worn out as well.

Ya, that's 100% complete... but...

I still don't think you can complete the game in a weekend... not with the full ending... you have to do some side mission grinding to get your weapons and gear up to spec for the final boss or you're lunch meat...

Those sub descriptions of the named characters seem really weird. The Code Talker guy might be someone from the Wisemen's committee cause his says "A Wise Man denied his Homeland"

The dirt on the Quiet girl's face seems to disappear when the camera gets closer.

And what is up with all of the weird capitalizations in all the sub descriptions for each character. There is no consistency with verbs being capitalized or not.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Kojima isn't a native speaker?

You could go through and take out the capitalized letters I guess to see if they form a word or something.

Kojima goes where the money is. How else do you explain his presence at MS conf

I'm tempted to think Kojima chose to present the trailer at the Microsoft Conference because they offered him the opportunity to be the very first thing broadcasted out of E3 worldwide... If he would have waited for the Sony Press Conference, his awesome trailer would have been drowned by everything else... But starting strong with his trailer really got alot of press for his game imho... That and he probably got a fat paycheck from Microsoft to promote it for One first, just like he did with Rising a couple years back.

Considering there was a camera in all the other MGS games...

And yeah, Kojima posts a lot of that crap to his twitter.

I have not a single fucking clue what's going on in that trailer, i never played Peace Walker, I don't care about spoilers. Someone tell me what the hell happened/is happening and who are these characters????

This looks pretty damn cool, I'm interested. The last MGS I gave a shit about was the first one, but I don't really know if I can stand Kojima's own brand of nonsense, even when this looks great. Having no idea what is going on could add to the charm I guess.

The dude he puts the sunglasses on. Kazuhira Miller. He goes "what took you so long?"

Anyone else think he sounds exactly like Tom Cruise?

Big Boss establishes Outer Heaven in PW. It's off the coast of Costa Rica. Kaz Miller (Master Miller) and Big Boss create an army. Paz, an agent for Cypher (think Zero) infiltrates Outer Heaven, fucks shit up. That's the short version lol.

I too have yet to play Peace Walker. Had no idea it was considered a main title until last year. Guess I was so fed up with the series after 4 that I stopped paying attention to MGS news.

It seems that V is a direct continuation of PW, with several returning characters. Which is strange considering it ended up not being a numbered title. Still, can't complain about having a "new" MGS waiting for me even before V comes out.

So this is a prequel? Why does is have a number in it's name when it's just a prequel? I mean, I know three was too but it was the first in the main solid series that was and it played a very important part in back story. Didn't they wrap all this shit up with four? This game looks great but does anybody else feel like the whole drive and setting behind the narrative feels lost?
