Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

If you're going to skip Portable Ops, why not skip MG1 too? It's not as good as MG2.

Also I would strongly advise playing at least some of the VR Missions for MGS and MGS2.

Oh gawd the VR missions...

I went for platinum for MGS2 HD on PS3...I got the platinum after VR missions made me cry like a little bitch.

I do find it rather annoying that Peace Walker is now being forced on us as main line cannon I never played it because I always figured the PSP games would always be side stuff, I guess I need to go back and play it, which is fine but at the same time it would be nice if the intro of MGSV were to catch us up to speed on the Peace Walker stuff because it appears most people have only played the Main Line series and maybe Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2.

It's a bit annoying that people think this. Leading up to PW's release, Kojima stated time and again that it is a main entry in the series, the true successor to MGS4 (when compared to Rising, given the time). It was released on consoles as well.

The next norm will be lost limbs...

Poor Raiden

I remember Kojima saying this as well but I also remember Kojima saying the MGS4 was the end of the series so again I think the marketing or something was just not clear with Peace Walker if you tell us MGS4 is the last one I am now caught off guard that the MGS5 which I didn't think would exist at first is so heavily based in Peace Walkers story arc.

So...

Can someone tell me why Chico and Snake are searching for a box in Paz's guts. A Nightmare?

Remember in the Ground Zeroes trailer, Ghost Face was saying that the Trojan Horse was ready?

He was probably referring to Chico, he knew Snake was coming and put a bomb in his stomach.

Actually the bomb was in Paz's stomach and Chico was there holding her along with BB for the extraction.

Good job on the platinum. Yeah, the MGS1 Solid Snake missions in Substance are pretty much the most difficult thing in the entire series. Moreso than getting Big Boss/Boss endgame ranks in the games.

MGS4 did end the story of Solid Snake. He got his peace. As far as I'm concerned, Rising doesn't exist. It was absolutely terrible. Raidens story ended in MGS4. There is plenty of room for sequels in the series when it comes to Big Boss, so this is a welcomed addition.

Totally agree its a welcome addition to the series, this conversation makes me wonder if they pack in Peace Walker in some kind of special edition of MGS5 its probably a good idea at this point given the fact that there may be many people in the same boat as far having not played Peace Walker.

Not even the gameplay was fun for me. The terrible camera, the shitty lock on, and the dumbest blocking system plagued Rising. It should've been canceled after KojiPro realized they couldn't make it the right way.

Parrying was extremely terrible and frustrating for me, other than that I did enjoy the gameplay but it got old pretty fast. And Kojima's happy with Rising and Platinum and thinking of MGR 2

Terrible how? About the same quality as the others MGS games. It's just much more in your face about its lack of logic.

The trailers about Raiden being a child soldier and such implicated (to me atleast) that we might see what child Raiden and child war and everything, what happened to his family and such...

All we got was a short game and Jetstream Sam

Switch Paz in for when I said Chico then.

Haven't played Peace Walker yet, so don't really know much about these characters. Just what I've been able to glean from MGSV trailers.

Paz having a bomb in her gut and Big Boss having to get up in them guts to get it out is almost reverse fan service for the people that hated the fan service in Peace Walker.

Basically, everyone getting fucked up is making up for how lackluster the story was in Peace Walker. Although the story gets a bad rap, it was a portable MGS game from the start.

Chico also has an input in his stomach, so I guess Paz has it too. Whatever it is.

Well, I mean, I can see the disappointment in that regard, but anybody who played Platinum's games was not shocked by that. You can't expect them to tackle something serious like child soldiers. That's not what they do.

As far as parrying goes, Rising, like any great combat game, is about playing hundreds of hours and improving your play. The parrying system worked perfectly fine. You just had to learn it and master it.

My lord I hope MGR2 doesn't come into existence.

No. Rising was a new realm of shitty writing and zero logic. At least with MGS, they do it well and it has many redeeming qualities. Rising just threw it all out the window and shat on everyone's faces.

Platinum couldn't have done it but the story was looked over by Kojima's department, they could've ensured a good solid story to stick...

And yes about parrying you are right but it still felt pretty odd.

No, that was MGS 4. Rising is an amazing game. Don't give a flying shit about the story in a Platinum game. And Kojima is certainly pleased not only with the quality but with the sales.

Rising 2 will be amazing.

That's laughable. MGS4 was great. Rising was dirt. They should've called it Bayonetta 2.

Can we please, for the love of god, let Hayter go.

We can't. Or certainly I can't. Hearing Hayter since 1998 and now having to listen to a generic Hollywood actor is just pure....meh.

Just focus on when he says "I'm already a demon..." it just lets you down, the voice.

Also inFamous 1's VA didn't come back for inFamous 2 and inFamous 2 kind of sucked for me just because of the VA, the 1st one's VA had an amazing voice and did an amazing job with Cole and giving him personality.

Same case here. I'm badly hoping Hayter makes a return in Solid Snake's voice.

I want to play Rising for the gameplay, but the story and gameplay absolutely bored me to tears in the demo. Really couldn't care less about it, because it just didn't feel like it had any impact or meaning on the MG(S) saga.

I will play it later on when it becomes cheaper though.

Trust me, it's even worse than the demo leads you to believe. It was such a grind getting myself to finish it. It has zero impact on the MG series. It made Raidens story ending in MGS4 look pointless.

It doesn't, which is good so that people won't whine about it later. Gameplay is up there as far as action games go. Not quite DMC 3 or NG BLACK levels of awesome, but it's a great foundation for the future.

I also have followed the MGS series since MGS1 was released. What makes Hayter less generic than Kiefer? What does that even mean?

It's almost aggravating that people hold tradition or similarity over actual performance.

I have been very critical of Hayter ever since MGS 2, but I can definitely side with people who want him over Kiefer. Kiefer Sutherland as Snake sounds fucking ridiculous. I can't help but feel like I'm listening to Jack Bauer. I cringed when I heard his voice in the trailer.

Hayter's voice IMO breathed life into Snake's personality...I can understand Kojima going for different direction with Big Boss's voice and facial tech and everything but just listening to Sutherland's voice saying I'm already a demon was like...Well I can't explain well.

That's 100% Kojima's fault. Do you think David Hayter could have pulled that line off?

"I'm already a demuuuunn *growl*" Nope.

However, you get a real sense of an actors performance when he rescues Kaz.

Also, David Hayter never left Solid Snake's voice. He just didn't get Big Boss', in this particular game.

Reading this makes me deeply sad.

Metal Gear Rising is one of the best action romps this generation. Complete power and adventure fantasy, a cheesy but emotion lifting soundtrack. Gameplay that matches what happens in cutscenes and more. Probably has the best boss battles in the series.

The story is goofy, but its a fun story if you can accept Metal Gear not having a dramatic narrative.

He might've pulled it :p

Here's hoping there's Solid Snake in this title.

Have some faith. I'm pretty happy with what he's done so far. I'll miss Hayter as well, but I'm not so upset with this as I am with Ironside and the Splinter Cell franchise.

But the issue is that Kojima should have made this decision in 2004, not in 2013. Hayter already played Big Boss in 3 MGS games. It makes no sense to change now, it made sense to change back then.

Ugh. I disagree wholeheartedly with your opinion. The boss battles were terrible. If you want a game with awesome boss battles, play MGS1 and 3.

So, anything Kiefer says makes you think of Jack Bauer? Cause he didn't talk like Jack Bauer.

I honestly think people don't separate voice acting from writing or dialog. I thought the line was sorta cheesy but Kiefer delivered the line the best way he could. It actually sounds like Big Boss is feeling something.

Proof that most people just like whatever they hear first, regardless of quality. I don't want to shit on the guy who did Cole's VA in the first inFamous, but suffice to say, describing anything about his performance as "amazing" is absurdly generous.
