You gotta love how much Sakurai respects the original IP.

I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that it was a guess. I do think the rest of the names on that list are likely characters. I will wait to see what happens tomorrow before taking his word as gospel and spreading it around like it's fact. I don't really give a shit beyond that.
I never took the guy's word as gospel that they will debut tomorrow. I can see how that part can be shuffled around on a moment's notice. What I'm taking as gospel is the existence of the other characters. The statistical odds of someone guessing the existence of Wii Fit Trainer and Villager, as well as Mega Man, is just... Insane.

Especially considering the source of information even nailed down the official names of all these characters (in particular "Wii Fit Trainer" and "Villager") - given how ambiguous the names of these characters have been up to this point, and some keep calling the Wii Fit Trainer "Wii Fit Girl" or whatever, it should show that there's something up.

It would be quite the uncanny coincidence otherwise.

He didn't actually call him "Villager", he just said "Animal Crossing Guy". I agree with everything else you said, I'm just pointing out that one thing.

I don't think it has been named yet. The WiiU/3DS are placeholders I believe.

According to Nintendo's E3 site, Monolithsoft's "X" is a tentative title, but Super Smash Bros. is not. I don't see anything that indicates that they're placeholders; in the developer direct, Sakurai specifically states that the handheld version is called "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS" and that the home console version is called "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U."

I'm pretty certain that those are intended to be the final names.

We don't know the exact verbiage he gave Gematsu; "Animal Crossing Guy" was how Gematsu wrote it on GAF. Really, how else would one understand who he was talking about. If you just said "Villager," nobody would understand.

Mind you, even guessing the AC protag in the first place is crazy: The prevailing wisdom prior to the Direct was that AC protags were off the table, as per Sakurai's past comments that it wouldn't seem appropriate to include them. So no one was even guessing Villager/AC Guy in the first place.

And again, the most telling aspect: Wii Fit Trainer.

I can't tell if you guys are joking with this subject... they're going to include as many characters as they have the time and budget for. The number of new characters is a vague goal that may change with time. We remember the cut characters on the Brawl disc right?

Only half joking.

I'd like to think the roster doing that is totally unintentional, but the fortunes decide to tip themselves in such a way that it happens that way anyway.

Really though, I just need Ridley, Mewtwo, Sonic, Little Mac, Dillon, and Megaman playable. I don't really care what happens with the rest of the roster.

The only disappointing thing I got to say is how Skyloft visually doesn't look any better than Skyloft in Skyward Sword, hopefully by the time it releases the visuals get better.

Lol, it's not going to. They would have to create Skyloft from scratch again and there's no way that's happening. They pretty much imported the model from Skyward Sword, that's why it's the same.

In fact... Project M beat them to the punch on that and did it the exact same way; just imported the model from Skyward Sword. (shameless advertising on my part LOL)

OBVIOUSLY it's not the exact same stage design, but it does "tour" Skyloft.

It makes sense when you put it that way. Why even put those effects around "3DS" and "U"?

If so, however, that's a pretty terrible name.

Anyone else feel they should update/change the water mechanics? I never really liked them.

I didn't like the water in Brawl at all. In fact, I would prefer Melee water over that.
