i do agree that waluigi is somewhat out of place with wario, their opposite themes clash with an upside down "L" and "wa" in the name.

Er, well, I guess so. But the game does nothing to distinguish her from Peach so I honestly forgot she was in SML. Really they're both lazy clones, but Waluigi at least looks different and has a personality that has been established at the forefront of a few games. I'm not sure what, if anything, sets Daisy apart from Peach aside from slight appearance differences and an in-game bio that says she's tomboyish.
Oh and I guess Waluigi was an AT in Brawl, so I guess he has a little better chance. I see both of them as pretty superfluous and wouldn't give either good odds of making it as playable, but everyone has fans.

I don't play Animal Crossing, but Villager's inclusion appears to be worth it just for the Creepy Villager meme. I like it.

Not sure if this is what you're talking about, but both Wario and Waluigi's names are based off the Japanese word "warui" (bad). MARIO + WARUI = WARIO, RUIJI + WARUI = WARUIJI. Something like that.
I think there was a Charles Martinet interview where he defined Waluigi's main personality trait as self-loathing, but he's just the "Woohoo" guy. I doubt that means anything.

No it doesn't, that'd really piss me off. Give players the same game under the same package like they always have (no matter how many characters they must include). If they want to add characters, they should add them from the beginning and not on some freaking dlc later on.
I gotta say for barely a day's time there is some quality work there.
eh, I don't really see any problem with that if only Nintendo would finally decide to start using a new and exciting technology called 'patches' to teak the game balance and remove broken elements
