Tom Clancy's The Division - Ubisoft + Massive, MMO Open World TPS RPG

This post ended up on the tailend of one of the pages. Just wanted to repost for anyone who missed it.
Since the OP has the wrong links and all....

Has anything been said about how death will work in this game? I'm hoping for some sort of permadeath like Day Z where you are actually afraid to die and lose your stuff.
I haven't heard anything yet but when he picks up that gun his partner says '' better pick that thing up before you lose it. ''

What does he mean by that?

In order to "bank" your loot pickups... you have to "extract". This is what they did outside near the end, shooting the flare. That begins an extraction countdown (90 secs I think) but shooting the flare pings you on the map to all surrounding players. If they can kill you before extraction, they can steal your loot.

It's kind of neat way to have some tense, situational pvp.

Ok that sounds awesome! Hopefully there is a way to keep griefing in check.

Well... we don't have very much information, but the devs have said that there are certain "dark" areas where pvp is more prominent, and they have talked a bit about intelligent matchmaking. They also said the game scales to the player... solo players get a baseline difficulty, but as you add co-op friends, the challenge (and rewards) increase.

They talk as if solo play is a viable thing... which would indicate (at least to me) it's not set up for ganking. We'll see.

Game is still far away...

Finally got around to checking out the trailer for this. Wow, looks awesome!

Only nitpick is that that area of Brooklyn isn't brownstones, it's rezoned industrial buildings. ;)

Gunplay doesn't look that good imo, it's just another cover based third person shooter.
On the other hand the rest looks good, I'll be sure to follow this.

Gunplay looks more than okay. What looks like a lot of fun is the team work and 'skills'. That seeker drone was awesome and the healing and buffing seem like crucial parts of combat.

They can label it and focus on the rpg stuff all they want, but if they don't nail the combat, no one will play this. And by nail I mean don't deviate from the normal shooter guidelines in the pvp segments. No one likes bullet sponges in a competitive environment.

I recognized DUMBO immediately from the Manhattan Bridge in the background, but when it zoomed down I was a little confused... needs more cobblestone & industrial buildings turned art spaces.

I love the way the environment react to the firefights. Way better than any other games I've seen.

It's not a competitive environment. Unless there's an entirely different playmode that the devs haven't discussed.. no one will be requesting for this game at MLG. There are health bars, bullets don't appear to one shot (unless there's an exception somewhere down the line for certain weapons). This will play more like an RPG than a Shooter. And most of it's playerbase will be fine with that.

The dev at the Sessler interview somewhat carefully stated a "winter 2014" release. Judging by Ubi's release schedule I'd wager it's slated for November 2014.

I'm happy to see Massive/Ubisoft insist that it's an RPG first, with shooting elements second, because as a shooter it doesn't look unique enough (but still good/fun).

I'm fairly certain they said Dark Zones are the only place to have FFA style PVP. The demo was based entirely in one of those areas, which is why they were shown as being attacked at the end of the walk through.

Oh yeah, let's invent a time-machine so we can get our hands on this puppy!

A lot of well known and respected devs seem to be really liking The Division. Glad to see it's getting the recognition it deserves.

Probably my game of the show

Titanfall and MGSV are up there as well.

The gamespot interview has some good information.

Oi, where's my name?

Sorry. Everyone should definitely now be on my latest list.

EU Branch logo looks hot. Since my photoshop crapped out right before I was doing the E3 Summary Topic this year, it'd be nice if we could have someone whip up some banners much closer to release to represent our crew. So much time between now and then though, so no reason to even begin to rush :)

Watching the Rev3 Interview. Damn this game sounds amazing but I am also not thinking about something else.

Rainbow Six and GR using this tech.

so.. it can be single player if you really want (just stay out of the PVP areas)
the switching skill points on the fly seems coool. dont know if there will be a cost involved with that.
and although its a classless system, pretty sure there will be optimal builds fugured out soonish after launch

This sounds very cool.

Just watched the Rev3 interview. So good, so ambitious. I'm just nervous they wont be able to pull it off, but then again I thought the same of Watch Dogs but that game has retained it's look and feel.

The animation transitions are almost TOO smooth...so good.

And the world, the fact that you can seamlessly go between social hub/sp/co-op/pvp is just incredible. Truly amazing. Winter 2014, hype.

Any avatars people have made?

I have to say I missed this during E3 but decided to check it out despite not being my favourite genre.

... it looks incredible, on my radar.
